I have more than one property and had one that needed immediate help. Sodding, mulching (I wanted to find black mulch to accent the property), trimming of trees and just all around yard fix up and clean up. I contacted Lous Quality Landscaping which is here on Thumbtack and he gave me a affordable quote and did an outstanding job! I have since called him for other work and each time he has been punctual, given me affordable quotes and has done excellent work! I even have trees that need special shaping on a property and he is does that, people compliment the yard when he is done. (I have pictures) I recommend him for all of your lawn care needs or even just a landscaping of lots, vacant properties or weekly maintenance, he's quite affordable. I also asked Lous Quality Landscaping about the review from the person who said they did not do a good job about sodding, he told me he had not seen it, but he told me he would say this, he said that he can put the sod down but it has to be watered frequently and daily to take, without proper watering and care from a client it (Sod) will die no matter how well he does the job. He also said he went out of his way to make the person happy and accommodated them several times. I told him you can try but you can't please everyone. That explained it for me. I am still using him and his company they do a great job! I am in the Orange Park and Jacksonville, FL area and not related to this man or this company and only see him when I have landscaping needs.

I wish I could rate Omar and his team higher than 5 stars! He kept me up to date on the progress of the job (palm/tree trimming and mulch) and worked into the evenings to ensure that it would be complete in time. I can not recommend Omar enough. If you want someone that is reliable and does suburb work then Turf Pros is your answer.

Tony and Sons repaired my fence from hurricane damage in a professional and quality manner. Very nice to do business with someone who tells you what you need and what you don't need to be done! Instead of replacing my fence at a much higher porridge, they repaired it to look new at less than half the cost. I was going too have a palm tree removed that I thought was dead, but when Tony looked at it, he pointed out that new green was showing at the top. So instead of just cutting down a tree and charging for removal, cleanup and grinding, Tony said wait and see if out recovers from the hurricane damage. They are an HONEST business! They will receive my business again and again! Highly recommend Tony and Sons for tree service and for fence service! W. L. Cochran

Gregg responded to my request very quickly and came the very same day to remove two trees from my yard. They did a great job, both in removing the trees and cleaning up the debris. I plan to hire them again.

I've had several jobs performed by Keith's crew and each and every one of them went flawlessly. Hiring a certified arborist means you're hiring someone who knows what is best for a tree and not just cut it down because it's the most profitable for him.

I had a large tree removed, a full pallet of sod installed, debris removal, and great advice on how to maintain my lawn. The response and advice before and after was excellent. Those last two reviews giving a 1 star are ridiculous, because my experience was great, and I'd hire them again. Highly recommended.

My yard was a mess. Brad came out and made it look 10 times better. I have 6 oak trees in my yard and numerous oak trees around the property. He raked, bagged, blew off the roof and trimmed 2 crepe myrtles. I am pleased with his work. I would and will recommend him to family and friends! Thanks again Brad and Rylee!

I highly recommend this company! There is no need to entertain any offer from another tree service. I wasted time with three other companies and Beaver Tree Service got a difficult job done while the others were over pricing, with a two month wait. Call them first, you will not be disappointed.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
