She was wonderful with us and our two pups. It was the humans that needed training not the dogs. 😀

As soon as I heard Miguel on the phone mention that he was part of the IBEW, I was convinced that he was a solid electrician. On top of that, his wife Jess is also an IBEW electrician. They were very courteous, professional, very knowledgeable, and just simply awesome. I do not hire random people to come into my homestead but I would highly recommend these couple. Excellent job, guys!

Eva is the best! She provided lots of love and attention to my little four month old puppy, Rollo. She is very knowledgeable in training and in the specifics of what Border Collies need in training. She gave me written materials and homework to keep me on track through the week. I just signed up for the next class, Canine Good Citizen, and Rollo can't wait to start!

The training that was provided for my family's German Shepherd was outstanding. We felt at home as well as confident about continuing training on our own after we left. We give a round of applause for the dedication and hard work that is put in to making sure that all parties are knowledgeable in what is best for the canine as well as helpful to the owners. My husband and I would highly recommend INCTA to anyone looking for help in canine awareness and training.

Samantha and her family took great care of our Jack Russell for a week and topped it off with the best bath and grooming he's had in 9 years! We felt very comfortable leaving him in her care. She has a lot of experience with dogs and has a nice house and yard for them to play. I would hire her again and recommend her services for both dog sitting and grooming.

I needed a pet sitter on short notice and Rachel came through for me. She took care of my pet cat over a two -week period and did a wonderful job. Never left my cat for that long but she took care of everything and I couldn't be more pleased with her professionalism. Definitely plan on using her again and would definitely recommend her for anyone looking for a responsible and caring pet sitter.

Ruff Rubs is commendable for a lot of reasons. First is convenience: Ruff Rubs will come to you and massage your dog in his/her own environment where the pooch feels most comfortable. Second is quality: Betty is a certified canine massage therapist, and is good at what she does. Our chihuahua likes her and melts under her hands. She can evaluate small starting issues such as sore spots or areas where your dog holds tension so problems can be treated before they begin. She even does a video evaluation to diagnose gait. Third is value: Ruff Rubs is priced competitively with similar services, but charges in a smaller increment, ie priced for a half hour instead of the 45 min or hour booked by competitors. That allows the flexibility to choose to have two sessions spread out over a couple of weeks for the same price as one session elsewhere, or book a double session if you wanted it longer - still costs the same as the 1 hour competitor - or perhaps book a half hour session for two dogs instead of an hour for one. Same price! The absolute best thing about Ruff Rubs, a quality which transcends all the rest, is compassion. Betty doesn't see Ruff Rubs as just a job: her business is a passion. She truly loves animals and she's there to bond with your pet. I consider that my chihuahua has a friend in Betty. Betty has a magic in her hands, a way that connects and reassures, that whisperes to your pet that it's okay to let go, to release guards and cares, to relax and let her in, let her heal.

i was lucky to find rachel at the last moment when i had to fly out of town suddenly. i usually leave lucie with a friend but she has been ill and couldn't watch her. rachel said she provided in-home services and could spend as much time as needed with lucie. rachel is one of the kindest people i know, she is reliable, dependable, and soft-spoken. she is a professional with a playful side, loves my dog and sends me photos of both lucie and my new adopted rescue lila every day i am gone. i live in an apartment and lucie and i walk twice daily at a neighborhood church. rachel had no problem with my request that she take lucie to the church for her walks. she has my home key and gets my mail if i ask as well as waters my plants. she is familiar with common pet health problems and i feel very comfortable recommending rachel to anyone who needs a loving pet sitter.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

      • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
      • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
      • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
      • What are your different walk routes?
      • When will you pick up and drop off?
      • How will we communicate?
      • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
      • What’s your cancellation policy?
      • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
      • How and how often do I pay you?
      • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

What is included in a dog grooming?

Dog grooming is so much more than giving your dog a bath. Dog grooming is a broad term that covers all aspects of canine cleanliness and hygiene. The services included in dog grooming will vary based on your needs and what you choose to pay. Unless they are rolling in cowpies or playing in mud puddles, most dogs are okay getting a shampoo bath only as needed. You’ll know when they need it if they smell bad or are bringing dirt into the house. Some dogs, like shepherds and shih tzus, have thick coats that can get matted and tangled without regular care. Pro dog groomers can deftly blow dry a dog’s hair after a bath so that it is shiny and smooth. Dog grooming can include brushing that detangles dog hair and also thins the undercoat to minimize shedding.

Dog grooming also includes hygiene services such as toothbrushing and ear cleaning. Clean teeth are important to the health of your dog, and the pros have the patience and proper technique to get it done. Regular dog grooming can stave off tear stains, those reddish stains below your dog’s eyes. Anal gland expression is something not many people want to do on their own, even if they love their dog. A dog groomer can safely and efficiently release any blocked anal gland fluid. Other dog grooming services include nail trimming and clipping. Nationally, dog grooming prices range from $60 to $80. Most dog groomers offer discounts to customers who purchase monthly packages or bundle multiple grooming services at one time.

      What is a dog groomer?

A dog groomer is a service professional who provides dog grooming and basic hygiene care for your dog. Dog groomers are typically animal lovers who are competent and comfortable working with a wide range of dog breeds and temperaments. Dog groomers are knowledgeable about the care needs for different kinds of dog coats. A poodle will have different haircut needs than a shih tzu, for example, so it pays to have a trained pro provide the proper cut. Good dog groomers know how to safely clean your dog’s teeth, bathe your dog, and cut their nails without going too short. They understand how to trim the hair from around your dog’s face, express anal glands, and clean your dog’s ears. Many people who choose dog grooming as a profession also pursue other dog services such as attending veterinary school, running a doggy day care center, working as a professional dog walker, and more.

      What is a dog groomer?

Keep your family dogs happy, healthy and clean with regular dog grooming. A dog groomer is a business owner or employee of a dog grooming business who specializes in dog hygiene and grooming. To find a reputable dog groomer, research reviews, ask for references and confirm that the groomer has good standing in the dog grooming community.

A dog groomer should be comfortable and competent working with dogs of all breeds and temperaments. Typically a groomer will have trained with other groomers and taken educational courses to keep abreast of the latest safety information and techniques. There are brick-and-mortar dog grooming businesses, as well as mobile dog groomers who bring all their equipment and provide their services at your home or location. In some cases, brick-and-mortar businesses will also pick up and return your dog for an additional fee.

How old should a puppy be for training?

Dog training shouldn’t wait until you’re having behavior problems. If you get a new puppy, start from the beginning with professional training to give both you and your puppy the tools you need for a healthy relationship. Dog training is as much about teaching the owner how to interact with their new dog as it is about the dog learning to behave. Puppy training can start as early as eight weeks old. Trainers who offer puppy training programs may works specifically with dogs between the ages of 8 and 18 weeks old. Trainers can teach owners about potty training and how to deal with accidents, working with separation anxiety, and training your pooch out of destructive behaviors like chewing, biting and demand barking. Puppies will start to learn to walk on-leash and other basic skills.

In addition to behavior training, socializing your puppy is an important part of dog training. Socializing your dog means they become comfortable and confident in a variety of settings and have a great foundation for becoming a well-adjusted adult dog. After your puppy has had the proper vaccinations, you can start to introduce it to a variety of different dogs and people in safe settings.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
