I had an intense personal training cycle with Halston Carnes up at Training Evolved, and it was worth every bit of time and energy! Halston is a true professional, and motivated me to push past limits and learn as I grew. His was extremely knowledgeable and informative in all areas of sports nutrition, dieting, preventative injury, and most of all the science to lifting and working hard. I saw major improvement from his sessions, and would recommend him to everyone I know. The Owner's Ruth and Jeff were also very proactive in guiding me along my journey, and they too motivated me to progress and become a better me! Thank you Training Evolved!!

Shawn did a marvelous job with our event, which was a Wine Tasting fundraiser, where he provided most of the food and all of the catering expertise. He was so professional, and he and his assistant were well prepared for every eventuality! The food was great! Many thanks for helping to make our fundraiser a fabulous event!

Lewis is SO great to work with!!! The process is challenging itself, but Lewis makes sure to keep you in check - he keeps you accountable, he keeps things as simple as possible and works with you 100% on making things as smooth as possible. He is ALWAYS available, responds quickly to emails, even when taking a vacation makes sure you're left on the right track and still checks up on you to make sure you're doing well. I HIGHLY recommend Lewis as a trainer/coach/nutrition specialist. Not to mention the results are AMAZING!

Chef Cathy has done two large parties for us (heavy appetizers) and one dinner party (five courses, vegan). She arrived well in advance, brought all the food, had pre-prepared several items, and was very organized. Very creative and knowledgable, she gave us several options for our guests. Everything looked lovely and was delicious. I recommend her services.

In the short amount of time that Keisha has been my trainer, she has completely changed my view on trainers. I had previously been skeptical about paying someone to tell me what to do while they sat there and did nothing. I was wrong. A truly great trainer like Keisha is more than just the person telling you what exercises to do. She is a motivator, she holds you accountable, but most importantly she is an educator. She gives you every tool you could possibly need to reach your personal goals, and then shows you how to use them by leading by example. This extends beyond the physical aspect and into the lifestyle changes that are sometimes required. I have learned that nutrition and sleep are just as big a part of getting fit as working out. It is truly amazing the amount of time and personal investment Keisha puts into each client.

The Hazel Nut staff is very professional, and promt. The food was absolutely devine. I gave Chef Eric my menu, we hashed out all the detail on when I needed the food ready, where to deliver. The rest was in his hands. The display was colorful, neat, and the food itself was a hit with the guess. Definately will use Hazel Nut Grill again for all of my parties and events. Those mini sandwhiches, and gumbo will be on every last one of my must haves for my menu.

We were in a bind for an Open House party when our plans for catering fell through. We were expecting 40 to 60 professionals and had one week to find another option. I accessed Thumbtack for the first time, and Karin Munnell with K&J Heart Healthy Catering responded. Prompt response, very professional, and the food delicious! Even with the short time frame, she was able to meet with us and bring samples. She worked within our requests - like having no onsite kitchen - and brought us some great ideas too. I recommend her highly. Very pleased with Thumbtack as well!

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do private cooking lessons cost?

You can take private cooking classes to have fun, to learn a new skill, to improve your health, to bond with your partner, to enjoy a playful first date or to have a unique birthday party experience. Nationally the average cost of private cooking lessons ranges between $100 and $150. Prices can vary, depending on where you live, the type of cooking class you’re taking, the ingredients the chef provides, and the reputation of the chef. Cooking classes with Anthony Bourdain will clearly cost more than classes with a local restaurant owner. The number of people in the class will also affect the cost, with group lessons often priced per person to account for the cost of ingredients. For example, for group lessons, a brunch workshop may cost an average of $70 per person, a steak dinner with sides could cost an average of $80-$85 per person, and a sushi lesson could cost an average of $100 per person. Ingredients play a major role in cost, as the chef will pre-purchase the food you will be working with. Weekday classes will usually cost less than weekend classes.

Are nutritionists covered by health insurance?

Nutrition counseling can be a critical component of good health care, especially for people recently diagnosed with diabetes or high cholesterol who need to adhere to a specific diet. People also meet with nutritionists for help developing a healthy vegetarian or vegan diet, developing an eating plan to lose weight or gain muscle, or improving their sports performance by changing their diet. Nutritionists may be covered by health insurance depending on your reason for meeting with them. Nutrition counseling is more likely to be covered if it is part of a doctor-prescribed treatment for a particular medical condition, such as diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure or coronary heart disease. For example, Medicare covers medical nutrition therapy services only for people diagnosed with diabetes or kidney disease, as long as they get a referral from their doctor. Also, insurance providers more often cover nutrition visits if the patient has been referred to a registered dietitian within the carrier’s network of providers. Insurance plans vary greatly, so research your benefits before visiting a nutritionist.

How much does a nutritionist cost?

A nutritionist provides expertise and guidance to help clients with all diet-related health matters, including losing weight, gaining muscle, improving their sports performance, and managing diabetes or high cholesterol. Nutritionists can help people learn to follow special diets in a healthy way, such as becoming vegetarian or vegan or developing a low-sodium or gluten-free eating plan. The average national cost of a nutritionist is $60 to $100. Nutritionists often require an initial consultation with a new client, during which they’ll take a medical history, assess the client’s nutritional needs, and determine the best course of action; this first meeting usually averages $100-$120 for a 45-minute to 90-minute consultation. Subsequent nutritional counseling sessions generally cost less, ranging from an average of $45 for a half-hour session to $60-$90 for a one-hour session. Like many professional service providers, nutritionists may offer discounts through package pricing. For instance, a one-month package with two sessions and email support costs an average of $190; a three-month package with three sessions and email support costs an average of $360; and a six-month package with six sessions and email support costs an average of $540.
