I didn’t want to write this review because Bri is such a sweet person, but I feel that I have to. I was very disappointed and felt uncomfortable the whole night for so many reasons, and didn’t even take part in any photo taking. So no memories from that night. * this review is long but I couldn’t say what happened without giving details. I hired Bri back in December 2017 for a wedding in March 2018. After communicating back and forth the day was here. In the beginning I only hired Bri for makeup, but then change it to hair and makeup to save myself stress and time By hiring a professional. I had asked for the glam makeup look and old fashion glamorous Hollywood curly hair style. I was concerned about timing so I asked Bri how many hours would she need and what time we should meet? The wedding ceremony is ‪at 5:00pm‬. She said ‪2:00pm‬ would be a good time. Day of event I texted her and she said she will see me ‪at 2:00‬. ‪2:00‬ o’clock came and no Bri. Then I got a text saying she was driving in from Miami and will be at the hotel ‪at 2:30‬ because of traffic, and assured me that she will still have enough time to do everything. By the time she showed up it was almost ‪3:00pm‬ (1 hour late). As soon as she walked in the door I asked her would she still have enough time to do both? Again she assured me it will be fine. When she was working on my hair, I was concern of the outcome so I asked if it will look like the picture I sent her awhile back of what I wanted it to look like. I even showed her a picture of what I was afraid and didn’t want it to look like. She said it will not be like that at all. I knew for a fact to get those waves you would have to curl the hair then set it in rollers to have the hair set for waves . All I saw was individual loose curls, and to set the front she used facial tissue paper ( how that thin tissue paper was supposed to give it body curl I had no clue) but I’m not the professional. Next thing I know it was ‪4:00pm‬ keep in mind that we had set a plan for me to leave ‪at 4:00-4:15‬ the latest. ( ceremony is ‪at 5:00‬ and it takes 20-30 min to get Uber and to get to the venue) She wasn’t done so I had no choice but to push the time out even more. By the time she was done it was ‪4:40‬. I hurried to put my dress on take a quick look at my makeup and hair grab some of my makeup products ( ones that I could find quickly, wasn’t much) so I can fix the things that bothered me in the car on the way to the event. I finally make it downstairs request and Uber at it was ‪4:50‬. I was not going to make it to the wedding on time that’s for sure. I was LATE!!! and didn’t make it for the ceremony had to stand out in the hallway until it was done. ........ so overall my experience with Bri was stressful. I didn’t like my makeup, but because she showed up an hour late I had no time to fix the things that bothered me. I felt like I paid $100 for glam makeup and it was not glam looking ( my eyebrows really bothered me) I tried to fix it as much as I can in the car on the way to the event, but I still felt like I looked nothing like I pictured myself). *side note there were other makeup artists that quoted me $80, but I thought you get what you pay for so went with the more expensive quote. .......My hair.... I was VERY VERY disappointed in my hair by the time Bri was done with my hair it looked nothing like the picture I sent her. The top part looked liked I had a limp birds nest and my glamorous wavy curls was nothing but long loose curl ( something I expressed to Bri of what I didn’t want). 10min outside there weren’t any curls it was now just straight because of the weather and the weight of my long hair. Again with no time I had to leave it the way it was. When Bri quoted me for hair and makeup combo she said down curls would be $60, but when I sent her the picture she said $80 so I said okay because that hair style takes time to set etc. Again I was very late, I had no choice there was nothing that could of been done there was literally no TIME. I had to run out so fast as I could.. 1. I had to go with the first pair of shoes I could grab. 2. Didn’t get to grab or put on the jewelry I had planned on wearing that night. 3. Didn’t get to put on the hair pin I bought just for this event. Sigh! So the whole night I wasn’t myself because I felt everything was off and I was in a grumpy mood. I spent $400 on a dress ( just for this event) $100 on makeup $80 on hair $50 for hair pin... All that money spent and I looked nothing like I had hope for planned/ paid for and missed part of the wedding/ friends and family photos. Very disappointed and felt I missed out on an event I had planned for months in advance.

I am so thankful and grateful that I found Courtney for my wedding day hair and makeup! She was also the make up artist for 5 of my bridesmaids. She was absolutely wonderful to work with and does an amazing job. We spoke over the phone months in advance to work out a timely day of schedule. She came to my hotel for my trial make up run, she helped me pick out hair extensions prior to the wedding, and even pre-curled them for the wedding day. She is so accommodating. She will hear your ideas about how you want everything done but still give her professional advice.Thank you Courtney!

I hired Martha to do my make-up for my wedding that I was having on the beach. I have never had my make-up done professionally so I was a bit unsure of the results. Martha arrived early to do my make-up, which was awesome because I was afraid from all I have read from other brides who had other make-up artists who did not follow a schedule. Martha arrived with a hair specialist who assisted with placing my headband and veil (unfortunately, I had to redo those because pins were not used to secure anything in place). Both ladies were extremely personable. Once done, I loved my results! I wanted it to look natural and I got just what I asked for. I am still waiting on pictures from my photographer but from my selfies and friends' cameras, the make-up was amazing! I would hire Martha again!

I LOVED my experience with AM Glam. Ashley was always quick to respond and worked with me on pricing and giving feedback on the hairstyles I was picking. Unfortunately I didn't get to meet Ashley due to unforeseen circumstances the night before my wedding. But she did find a replacement for me, and Alexis did an amazing job! I used Martha for my makeup for my bridal shower and the wedding, and I could not have been happier. The airbrush makeup she does was flawless and truly lasted me ALL day long, through sweat and tears and eating. I would recommend these girls every time.

Tania is one in a million! She did an absolute stunning job on all my bridesmaids and myself (the bride). There was only one concern with my mom's hairdo but it was only due to a time push and uncontrollable outside circumstances (too long of a story). But she has the patience like no other. She made sure that I was satisfied with the look that I wanted for my special day. She came over to my house several times before because I wanted to do trials and I still wanted to try another look this way and this way until I could make up my mind.... And then she just knew she had the secret ingedient to make my look complete with my hair, which she did. My makeup was perfect, absolutely no smudges at the end of the night. She gives you advice and she is also a great listening ear. Her goal is to make YOU feel beautiful. However long or however way that will take. She puts out her best with her time and effort and that's just honorable in itself these days. Some makeup artists just rush out but Tania will stay late nights (like she did at my house) just talking laughing and making sure YOU feel confident with the look you're given. I would highly recommend!!!!

I am so grateful that Devon was my hair stylist and makeup artist for my wedding! From the beginning, she worked with me to decide on a style that would fit my personal style and wedding theme and then she scheduled two trial sessions with me pre-wedding to ensure there were no surprises and no hiccups the day of the wedding. Not only that but she worked with me on getting my make up just right. This was important to me because I never wear make up and so I didn't want to end up with something that was overbearing for my personal style, yet was appropriately classy for the occasion. She also helped to create a beautiful faux flower arrangement in my hair using bits of flowers that my florist had given me. And she gave my matron-of-honor a beautiful up-do that was complementary to mine and beautiful in its own right. Throughout my time working with Devon, she was professional and friendly, punctual and competent in her work. In the end, I had both a hair style and make up that left me feeling radiant and gorgeous - exactly how a bride wants to feel on her wedding day! I would highly recommend Devon to any other bride in the Palm Beach County area. Thank you so much Devon for all that you did to help make my wedding day extra special!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you choose the right makeup artist for your wedding?

A wedding makeup artist can ensure a flawless look on your big day. Finding the perfect person isn’t all about price, though. Here are tips for choosing the right makeup artist for your wedding:

    • Research before reaching out. Wedding makeup artists should have an online presence with portfolios of their work. Find someone with an aesthetic you love.
    • Read reviews. You want a wedding makeup artist who’ll be on time, do beautiful work, and add a positive vibe to your day. Pay attention if previous clients report bad experiences with a makeup artist.
    • Consider skin tones. If your bridal party has a range of skin tones, make sure your wedding makeup artist and assistants are experienced and talented working with everyone.
    • Is your top pick available on your date? If so, put down a deposit to secure their services.
    • Confirm rates and payment. Clearly discuss prices and payment plans, and sign a detailed contract so there are no surprises on your wedding day.

Do I need a makeup artist for my wedding?

There are no rules around your wedding day, and that means it’s your choice whether to have a wedding makeup artist. If you’re on the fence about hiring a wedding makeup artist, consider the pros and cons. Some women decide against a wedding makeup artist to save money. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, which is an expense some women prefer to do without. Other women just don’t love wearing makeup. Some brides have friends or family members who are talented makeup artists willing to provide their services. If you choose not to have a wedding makeup artist, be sure to do at least two trial runs of your makeup look well before the wedding day to avoid any morning-of panic.

On the other hand, a wedding makeup artist can make the bride feel pampered and confident, giving her a flawless, fabulous look for the ceremony and reception and in wedding photos. For brides who are uncomfortable with heavy makeup, many wedding makeup artists usually excel at the natural look. Many brides consider wedding makeup part of the ritual and tradition of the ceremony, a shared experience with the entire bridal party. Ultimately your choice of whether to hire a wedding makeup artist should be based on what will make you feel most confident and happy.

How much should you tip a wedding makeup artist?

Wedding makeup artists ensure you and your bridal party are looking your best bright and early on your wedding day. Tipping a wedding makeup artist for their hard work is standard practice, and is also greatly appreciated. A tip of 15 percent to 20 percent of the total bill is appropriate. You may consider tipping extra if the makeup artist or someone on their team went above and beyond — for example, squeezing in Aunt Martha at the last second or redoing a flower girl’s hair free of charge after she dunked it in the fountain.

A gratuity is a reflection of a job well done, so if the wedding makeup artist was late, did a shoddy job or didn’t provide all the services you negotiated, you are not required to tip. Talk with your wedding makeup artist prior to the event to ask how they prefer payment and gratuity to be handled. Can you pay by credit card the day of the event and include a tip then? Do you need to pay in cash the day of the event? Find out ahead of time how to manage payment for services so you can be prepared with cash or credit cards as needed. Even better, delegate the task of payment to someone in your bridal party so you can just enjoy your day.

How much do wedding makeup artists cost?

A wedding means love, celebration and tons of wedding photos. Professional wedding makeup artists have you looking your best on your big day and forever after in your wedding photos. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, although this price can increase based on your location, the extent of the makeup services and the reputation of the makeup artist. Most wedding makeup artists offer discounts to brides who book group services for their maids, mothers and flower girls at the same time. Wedding makeup artists who also do wedding hair usually offer package rates for hair and makeup combos. Here are some examples of average wedding makeup pricing:

    • Bridal makeup: $85-$125. Pricing often includes full face, eyes, lips, brows and false eyelashes. Airbrush makeup may be an additional $20 or more.
    • Bridal hair and makeup: $150-$200.
    • Bridesmaid and bridal party makeup: $50-$100 per person.
    • Bridesmaid hair and makeup: $100-$150.
    • Flower girl makeup: $25-$35.
    • Trial sessions: $60-$120, depending on the makeup artist. Some charge their full rate and others charge a partial rate for trial makeup services.
    • Hourly rates to stay on and keep makeup touched up throughout reception: $35-$75 per hour.
    • Travel fees: 50 cents to $1 per additional mile beyond a set radius — such as 50 miles.
