The guys were great. Very polite, hard working and “strong “. They did a great job packing and moving my stuff. I had broken my foot a few days earlier and couldn’t pack things myself so they did it all from A to Z with no damage. Very reasonable rates!

My experience with Cheryl was amazing and beyond my expectations! I booked last minute due to an injury and needed help packing / organizing for a move. From the point of booking to finishing , everything was seamless. She is great to work with, super quick and organized. Is careful with belonging and conscious of how I wanted things organized. The time hired was extremely productive and was non stop, like Wonder Woman! Everything really was organized in a day! Could not have done it with out her. Amazing energy. Would definetly book again and recommend.

Top Gun Service From Sales Manager, Felipe Carvalho right on to Nathaniel and Patrick - the team who executed our packing and move from the Boston Area to Palm Beach County, Florida, - we received 'Top Gun Service'. 1. Excellent Communication on status and expectation setting throughout the process 2. Paperwork process and incremental payments (credit card accepted for ALL payments 'big plus') at each stage of the set-up and move synchronized perfectly. Final payment was less than the estimate based on the actual final weight of the cargo. Do you think they could have 'faked it' and reported the cargo as heavier? Of course. But they didn't. Think about it. 3. Recommended an auto transport service for our 2 cars which we did use and our cars were waiting for us the same day we got off the plane in Palm Beach. 3. Packing Day - staged items for storage and items to move in to the new home. Everything packed tight. No damage to anything . . . even the cigars were in fine shape! 4. Arrival Day - straight to the storage facility to unload boxes etc., then direct to the new home. Everything unloaded with no damage, unpacked, assembled, and placed. But we still had too much furniture so back to the storage facility (only 1 mile away). We provided a handsome tip to the moving team who earned every penny saving us a great deal of angst. 5. We received a call (not an email survey) today from Sales Manager, Felipe Carvalho to get our impressions of the service while still fresh in our minds. Our answer: "You'll be moving us again once we purchase our new home next year". C & L Collins

David was responsive and accommodating when inclement weather hit and I asked for a delay. He was impressively efficient when packing the truck and all of my belongings were wrapped appropriately for the move. He was sure to stay on task and keep his crew focused. He packed, transported and unloaded 3 bedrooms, 2 living rooms, dining and kitchen- over 50 miles. Will hire again!

I had DeVries move my larger pieces of furniture into my storage unit today in Jupiter. Yesterday, the owner Eric came out and provided me a quote. The movers this morning showed up on time (actually a little early) and were friendly and did a great job. Everything was wrapped up nicely and moved without any damage to my furniture or walls. They took everything and unloaded it to my storage unit and organized it neatly. The cost matched the quote I was given the day before. Would use them again.

Wonderful, fast, and cheap service! We had to move a 12ft+ conference room table and L shaped desk from Boca to Boynton Beach and Thompson & Sons was the cheapest and most reasonable quote out there. The guys arrived on time and quickly figured out how to disassemble the conference room table. No scratches either! Will definitely use again.

Adrienne was awesome. We needed help packing up our house. The house was so chaotic, we thought about canceling. Adrienne arrived promptly even though she was an hour away and the weather was awful. She breezed right in and went to work. We never felt like she was judging us. She was so down to earth. Not only did she pack up several rooms, she gave us great pointers about what to leave out to stage the house when we sell. We will definitely call on Adrienne again.

Sales rep of Remax van lines, offered me a very attractive deal over the phone. He was also very attentive and responsive. He never tried to push me to hire them or never asked for upfront. So, I booked them for my move. It was an office move. I have a small office of 11 employees and recently I moved my office at a different place. However, movers arrived on time with necessary equipment and did not waste any time to begin their work. They took a close look of the stuffs and carefully started to wrap and box everything. They took little time complete the packing and then carefully loaded everything in the truck and moved to the new place. I was very happy to see everything in great condition. There was nothing missing or damaged or broken. They also stored everything at the new place and again completed the task before the allotted time. When the bill came, I was surprised to see that they charged less than the original quote!! It was really an amazing performance by these fine movers. I am very happy with their service and I do wish them a very bright and successful future.

Margie was fabulous! She went above a typical cleaning service and put things away in a smart user friendly way. It's been three days since she came and every day I've discovered something new like the way she hung our towels inside a closet out of sight, and organized my son's changing table just so. What I really liked was how professional and easy going she was. It was early and our family was everywhere with breakfast, showers, and getting ready. She worked around the chaos seamlessly.

Thanks to the professional services graced with the personal commitment of Sandy Gerstein (Sandy Organizes You, LLC), my 87 year old brother made a successful transition to a retirement residence from his longtime home—and in record time with minimal cost. Like a competent friend, and well before my arrival, Sandy took immediate charge long distance. She handled the intricate puzzle of cost estimates, time lines, moving companies and materials purchases, then juggled the emotional and practical aspects of hard choices, packing tricks, even trash removal. Whether dealing with pills or pillow cases, antiques or salad bowls, Sandy paid attention to detail, kept a steady pace, mirrored our concerns and showed her own compassion—a blend of 10 years experience and practiced expertise. Organizers deal with the “stuff” of life—not only concrete belongings but cherished memories. Part psychologist, project manager, packing pro, and cheerleader, Sandy proved her value on every level of our move. More importantly, she earned our trust, gratitude and on-going affection. I will recommend her highly and look forward to her help on my own life’s journey. Evelyn Preston Palo Alto, California

Ryan and his crew did an excellent job moving our family. They were very friendly and careful with our furniture and belongings. Many times they helped with packing issues to make sure nothing would be damaged. They were on time for the initial load and showed up at our destination as we requested. Ryan and his crew are trustworthy and we will definately use them again.

The workers at atsa industries was amazing. ATSA was able to clean our new home, pack up all our furniture and belongings. Move everything into our new home without damaging or breaking anything. Then on top of that they cleaned our old home which we then turned around and got our 100% security and deposit back. Now i use ATSA Industries to help maintain our new home with weekly cleaning. Talk about stress free.

Lori has cleaned for me several times. She was absolutely the most thorough, efficient and dedicated cleaner I have ever hired. She always goes above and beyond. She never has to be asked twice, and she understands completely what needs to be done. She is sincere, kind and honest and is a very excellent worker. During a move I was going through, she helped me pack and clean everything out. Lori has a knack for helping people and knowing exactly what they need. She is very versatile with her skills. She's excellent for packing, organizing, spring cleaning, etc. If you hire her, you will definitely use her again. I certainly will.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

    • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
    • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
    • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
    • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
    • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
