I fully recommend Verdie's Appliance Repair if you want honest, professional, and genuine craftsmanship. Verdie called me to offer his service around my busy schedule, but most importantly, he showed up having already researched the error codes, came with several possible solutions and had all necessary materials to make the final repair on the same day. I highly recommend Verdie for his knowledge, efficiency, fair price...but mostly, for his sincerity and the type craftsmanship that our fathers taught us. Great company!

Allen found a short in a clothes dryer that another repairman failed to find. He repaired it and also updated the dryer venting for better air flow. He is fast, efficient, and thorough. He alerts me other issues that need or will need attention. He is knowledgeable in most areas of home maintenance and repair and tells me when expertise outside his skills is needed. I highly recommend him. He seemed a bit pricey until I saw the quality of his work. He's a mighty fine and skilled professional.

Hire him! He was on time, inexpensive and went above and beyond. When he realized I needed a wooden plank for my mailbox install he went to the hardware store right away and bought it for me. I noticed later that he also bought me my address numbers and stuck them on...a pleasant surprise!

Al, was hired to install my dishwasher and did a great job. He was amazing and did a wonderful job installing my new Dishwasher and disposal. He went the extra mile when a part was missing to make sure everything worked right. Al, has a lot of experience and very friendly and takes pride in his work. I would recommend him for any electrical job you need done or installing an appliance. Al, had to take a cabinet out to make my dishwasher fit and it looks great.

I provided Anthony with a good rating based on all the information he was able to provide me with our plans in having him install a fence for us. His prices was very reasonable and he was able to le me know all the steps that's needed and best financial way to save us money in buying materials etc. As result of some HOA guidelines we decided to wait on our fence installation and did not use Anthony, but I recommend his services to others based on his Professional knowledge and good rates.

This guy is awesome! He gives you an estimate, does what he says he's going to do and does it to perfection! He is professional, friendly and an expert in his craft. His dad is pretty awesome too :) I hired him to fix a leak and install a new farmhouse sink and faucet in my circa 1920 home. I am going to hire him again to install a gas fireplace. Definitely the best experience I've had with a contractor in a long time!

What can I say! Be it returning my call or showing up at my house on time.... extremely professional standards. I have dual water heaters out of which one was leaking...Prior to Mermaid engineering, two other plumbing professionals showed up...did not solve the issue...charged me a little over $100 and advised me to buy a new one. I had to spend $680 on a new appliance...but Paul changed the connections, got rid of the leaking water heater, used my second heater and saved me $680! The work was so neatly done. I now have Paul's name on my contacts. I highly recommend mermaid engineering for similar services. It is not because Paul saved me a lot of money, but because he is honest with his opinions and has expert solutions at a very reasonable cost.

We have used Gordon a couple of times, and highly recommend him. He has done all sorts of jobs from easy toilet repair, GFCI outlet and breaker repairs, fan assembly/install, sprinkler repair, to moving electrical outlets and fan locations. He is always on time, communicates well, does the job right, and cleans up afterwards. It is nice to have a handyman that is also a licensed electrician, so we can get multiple jobs done in a day or afternoon.

"Elmer and his staff fixed my garage door weather strip very efficiently and quickly. I was quoted well over $200 for such a low cost piece of equipment and labor and this company gave me an honest quote and charged me fairly, I will definitely be using Boscana HVAC for all of my home repair needs." Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
  • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
  • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
