FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
When I begin a new student, I first assess their skill level in piano technique and in musical knowledge. Some of my students are complete beginners, and some have an extensive background in music but can't remember everything. Once we zero in on our current level, we talk about their goals. What type of music do they want to play, for what purpose (for fun, for a wedding, brush up on skills, etc). I will then formulate a curriculum of pieces for both exercise and practice as well as the pieces you want to work toward.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
BA in Piano Performance 15+ years of pedagogy experience High marks in Music Theory and Ear Training 3 years experience working with pianos of all kinds and matching them to customers and recording artists based on their sound and acoustics.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
Since I was 5 years old, I have been studying the piano. I went to a school for the arts where I began a major in piano in the 6th grade and graduated with a scholarship in piano at university. I taught students of all ages from my neighborhood, my college campus, my graduate school, and in my professional life. I spent 3 years working at Beethoven Pianos mastering the nuances of the different pianos and helping customers find the instrument that's right for them at the best price. When it wasn't available at my store, I assisted them in finding it elsewhere. I have met many of my students here as well. If you're looking for advice on purchasing a piano, I can certainly help you sift through the primary or secondary markets for them.
