Introduction: The Suzuki approach is based on the so-called "mother tongue" method and differs from traditional methods of teaching instrumental music as it involves the student at a very early age, encouraging the parent to participate in the role of the home-teacher. Dr. Shinichi Suzuki's method seeks to develop the whole child, helping to unfold his or her inborn potential to learn and become a happy and good person.
The purpose of Suzuki training is not to mold great artists but to help every learner find the joy that comes through music making. By utilizing the Suzuki growing process, children grow well in a total environment of support; they develop self-esteem and confidence, determination to try difficult things, concentration and self-discipline as well as lasting enjoyment of music, and the skill and sensitivity for making music.
Mayra Kucera began her Suzuki piano and violin studies at age four and five. She studied with Laura Adams Woodside of Young Violinist and Violists and at the Suzuki Piano School of South Florida, with Sarah Nehman Salz. She pursued a violin performance major at Azusa Pacific University in Los Angeles, under the direction of one of her favorite Suzuki master teachers.
Mayra graduated from Florida International University, completing a BA in music business, taking voice as a specialty. She is a certified teacher with the Suzuki Association of the Americas; with internationally renowned Teacher Trainer Ronda Cole 2008, Mayra has also received Suzuki Teacher Training in New Orleans, and has most recently studied with Ed Sprunger, who is a protege of Suzuki himself, in Canada.
Mayra's goal is to have young children love music and families share the gift of music together.
