We have a sad old wooden fence which needed some sprucing up asap. Manny was easy to work with, responsive and professional. He did a great job power washing the fence, taking care not to cause damage to the aging fence or the landscaping. This was no easy feat, considering the condition it was in. Very satisfied. Would recommend.

Tony replaced 6 panels of fence. The old fence was built with individual boards and not panels, so it was a lot of work to take out the old fence. He did a great job and went above and beyond and did some extra work to improve the gate as well.

Toni is the best. I had been searching for almost a year for a company to come out and give me an estimate so I could replace my falling down fence. All the other companies I would have to follow up just for an estimate. It would take weeks to get them to come out. I was becoming really upset that I would not be able to replace my fence because if you can't come out and give me an estimate when you say you are, how do I know that your going to install my fence once I pay you? So when I found Tony and she called me to tell me she wouldn't be able to make it same day, I was floored. Not that it would take her the next day (mind you it is around 7:30 pm at this point) but because she is going to come the same WEEK!!!! and she DID! When I spoke with her on the phone she was great to speak with and very eager to answer all of my questions. She thoroughly explained the process, and would keep in touch with me on the scheduling process. Honestly after all of my time I spent waiting on the other contractors, I found that I was now the one holding up the process!! I am very pleased with my new fencing, and the installation process. It rained the week I was scheduled for (of course) but the guys were still able to knock out the demo and installation in 2 days!! I imagine that without the rain they would have finished in a single day! Very impressed from start to finish with my experience. I have already recommended Toni to a friend, and honestly, if your comfortable recommending someone to your friends, then they have to be good. Go with Toni and you can't go wrong! OH and as a bonus, she was the cheapest, and I didn't even need to have her match, or change her estimate to be the cheapest! :)

This company is great! Proof of insurance and license were provided without question. Once I decided to go with House of Fences, the permit was obtained the next day (Friday) and they began the work on Tuesday. They completed the 356 feet of fence on Wednesday. They hauled away the old fence and left the 4 panels I wanted to keep. The latches to the gate had to be reveresed but that was done the next morning when I was able to be home. Will definitely recommend this company with full confidence that your fence will be done quickly AND correctly!!

Just a few days after Hurricane Irma had passed I needed to replace my fence. I contacted several services and Firefly responded almost immediately, I think that says something about their professionalism. The level of craftsmanship (yes its just a wooden fence I know) is exemplary. Many fence companies will simply install pre-fabricated fence and be done with it, FireFly (i.e. Pablo and his team) built the fence from scratch! If we wanted anything done to the fence Pablo and FireFly were accommodating and ensured that the fence met our expectations. We couldn't be happier and would highly recommend FireFly, Pablo and his crew for any of your landscaping needs.

Dan has been an absolute pleasure to do business with. Communicates very well to ensure that we were always informed as to the status of the project both pre, during and post our fence installation. Other companies which I had reached out to on Thumbtack either showed up to measure, but never followed up with a formal quote, or simply didn't bother showing up or calling at all. Dan is without any doubt, a true professional at what he does and I would highly recommend him for any fence project going forward.

Highly recommended. If you need a new fence or your old fence replaced call Budge Fence of Central Florida.

Josh was very professional, punctual and did a great job in trimming and cleaning up trees, removing debris and going above and beyond. I will definitely be using him in the future. As you can see, the trees and patio were quite the mess. The area and fence is all cleaned up. Heck, I didn't even know I had a BBQ Grill under all that mess. I've tipped the table to remove it. Hope you can view photos and see what a great job. Josh cut and hauled off all debris and there was a lot. Thanks, Josh!

Hired Randall for work at a friend’s property who was out of town and needed help. He was immediately responsive, gave the best quote and was able to get the job done on short notice. Will consider him to do fence work at my own property in the near future.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How many types of welding are there?

Welding is a method of fusing together two or more pieces of metal using electricity or flame. Welding is used to construct buildings, make metal sculptures, build and repair cars, make gates and furniture, and for many other practical and aesthetic uses. There are multiple types of welding. Here is an overview of the most popular methods:

  • Stick welding: Formally known as shielded metal arc welding, stick welding uses extreme heat applied at the seam of two separate metals to melt them together. A third (intermediary) metal may also be incorporated for added strength. As the metals cool, they are bonded together.
  • Metal inert gas (MIG) welding: Formally known as gas metal arc welding, MIG welding uses a tool to feed metal wire into the weld puddle while an electrical arc melts the wire, which will fuse to the base metal upon cooling.
  • Tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding: Formally referred to gas tungsten arc welding, TIG welding is a similar process MIG welding, but instead of using a tool that continuously feeds metal wire into the weld puddle, the welder must hold and manually feed the stick.
  • Gas welding: A mix of flammable gas and oxygen is used to heat metal to the melting point.
  • Forge welding: Forging metal is an ancient art that involves heating two pieces of metal until they are molten, then hammering them together.

How long is welding training?

Because there are different paths to learning to weld, there’s no single timeline for welding training. Some people attend school part-time while working their current job, while others can focus full-time on their welding training courses. People interested in learning how to weld as a hobby can also take classes from professional welders, such as at KCMA & Services in Waterloo, Indiana.

Expect to take at least two years to go from welding newbie to American Welding Society Certified Welder. A junior college Certificate of Completion welding course is two semesters full-time, or 10 units of coursework. With this certificate, students are qualified for an apprenticeship or internship, rather than a full-time entry-level job. Welding apprenticeships range from 6,000 to 8,000 hours long, equalling three to four years at 2,000 hours per year. Some junior colleges, such as Cerritos College in the Los Angeles area, offer more in-depth welding programs that lead to different welding certifications, such as arc welding and tungsten gas arc welding. These take three to four semesters to complete, so you could be qualified for an entry-level job in about two years of full-time study. Alternatively, you can prepare for employment more quickly through an intensive vocational program at a trade school. For instance, Ohio’s Lincoln Electric Company offers a comprehensive program that prepares people for a welding career in just 20 weeks and 600 hours of hands-on instruction.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.
