For the past 6 months, I have had the pleasure of working with Nathan every week. My daughter is a sophomore and needed some extra help for her Spanish II class as soon as we started the school year. I found Nathan to be not only highly skilled in Spanish, but patient, flexible and professional. My daughter has a complex school schedule and he always found ways to work with our schedule whether it was late at night, weekends, online or whatever worked. He is always on time and gets right to work when he arrives. He provided personalized one-on-one homework help, reviewed errors on quizzes, reinforced conjugation of verbs, and helped her to master Spanish vocabulary and grammar, which ultimately allowed her to stay ahead of the teacher's curriculum. My daughter was able to maintain her grade (A) with a very tough teacher for the report card time. At times before final quarter grades were entered, she dipped throughout the quarter with her quiz scores, but Nathan was able to provide the consistent support she needed that gave her the confidence to maintain the steady progress. This was really important to us since my daughter's overall GPA is high and she is working toward academic scholarships. You all have lots of choices for tutors, but we all know, you cannot take back a bad grade and if your child is struggling and you want to assist with having the best tutor to help maintain that GPA, Nathan is worth his fees. He is incredibly reliable and competent and gave me the assurance I needed to ensure my daughter has the best education for the future. We will continue to work with Nathan as she needs it, especially through the summer to keep her Spanish skills sharp during the summer.

Francisco is a great music teacher. My daughter is shy and she immediately took to Francisco. They developed a great relationship. Francisco had her playing two songs in no time. He also worked with her on her chosing selections that were good for her for school auditions. Francisco not only teaches the music, he teaches to the child, he recognizes where the child is and reaches them there. Within two to three lessons you hear the difference from your first lesson. I initially wanted to pursue lessons with Francisco as well however due to financial constraints only one of us could at that time. And after my daughter's first lesson, we realize she should be the one. We miss him terribly and have not found a teacher to his caliber yet - do not let his quiet quirky demeanor fool you - his is a all around great person - we miss him much! Should you come back to NY we will be your first clients!!!

I have been taking one-on-one Spanish tutoring lessons from Cindi for over a year now. When I began, I really was starting with very little vocabulary and zero confidence. Throughout my lessons I have learned new vocabulary, verb conjugations, structural grammar and most importantly for me, confidence in speaking a second language. I now can hold conversations with Spanish speakers. I can express my thoughts in Spanish and understand other people. My speaking abilities are definitely not perfect, but I am seeing the progress from my lessons. I cannot recommend Cindi highly enough. Not only is she an excellent teacher, both patient and supportive, but she is also a wonderful person who is a joy to spend time with. My coworkers and friends have commented how much my Spanish speaking abilities have improved, and I have Cindi to thank for that.

Ms. Martha was really helpful when I needed to learn Spanish. Back in Miami almost everybody speaks Spanish, and I wanted to learn a second language so I contacted Ms. Martha and scheduled an appointment with her. She had a class plan for every lesson and helped me move trough the basics really quick! I'm more of a visual/hands on learning person, so it really helped that she has different resources to back her teaching. Thankfully I finished learning Spanish before she moved to Daytona Beach. All in all, I was very happy with her teaching.

I'm a 22-year-old, highly personable college student with strong experience in the following fields: * Music - Primarily guitar, I have been playing for 10 years, with a background in piano at a young age. I can teach both electric and acoustic, guitar or bass. I am happy to teach music theory or simply songs students wish to learn. * Spanish - While I cannot assist higher levels (college major/minor), I am confident that I can teach at any level otherwise. I have taken Spanish in grades K-12, continuing multiple courses at Rollins College. I feel that understanding language comes very naturally to me, making it simple to explain, teach, and making it accessible to each student. * Math - Like language, the concepts of problem-solving in math are natural to me in a way that I can easily help students to divide problems into simple steps. While I am not an absolute calculus or physics wizard, I can certainly help any level, pre-calculus and below. * Skateboarding - Learn how to ollie, kickflip, pop shove-it, or even 360 flip and hardflip! Learn to grind and skate transition (vert). In addition to the previous skills, I love to skateboard and would be happy to share the sport with anyone willing to learn!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

How much do Spanish tutors charge?

Nationally, the average cost for a Spanish tutor ranges from $30 to $40 per hour. The cost for a Spanish tutor can vary depending on whether you choose private instruction or group lessons. Geographic location can affect cost; tutors in expensive cities and pricier regions command higher rates than in rural areas and small towns. The experience and education of the Spanish tutor will also affect their rates. For adult education, many people learning Spanish choose to join a Spanish school with tutors who teach group classes and also offer private tutoring for students. Typically these schools charge a monthly tuition that gives students access to a set number of classes per week, with private tutoring available at an additional cost. One example of an average cost is a monthly tuition of $200, which includes five 90-minute group lessons per month. Monthly tuition can vary depending on the school and the teachers. Short-term workshops are also a way to learn Spanish. Students may work with a Spanish tutor and group of other students at their skill level for a short period of time. One example of an average price is $100 for an eight-week course, with one 60-minute group class per week.
