I received a quick response to my request for an estimate and I felt the price was reasonable. Blaze Tree Service showed up on the scheduled day and completed the work. It was done to my satisfaction and they cleaned up the mess. They explained how they were cutting the tree and why before they did any work, so I knew what to expect. The crew was professional and polite.

I hired Executive Landscaping the week of the Matthew Storm. I need trees cut back from the house for safety. I am a property manager so I was not able to meet them at the site....But Matt took care of it all. I was able to mail them a check and my tenants confirmed the job was done. I would hire him again.

I hired Ironclad to uproot and replant some palm trees. Multiple other people told me it couldn't be done, but these guys had the confidence and were willing to tackle the challenge. The trees were moved successfully and are now thriving in their new location.

Thank you for all the work you did on mine and my neighbor's yards. H&D did a great job removing the branches in my backyard. They were very responsive & were able to come out quickly to get the job done. A few of my neighbors saw what a great job they were doing in my yard & asked them to cut some trees & branches down in their yards & H&D was able to fit them in to their schedule the same day. Also my yard ended up being a bigger more complex job than the pictures I posted on the app showed & so they weren't able to finish everything on the 1st day they came out because it got dark & also was rainy, but they were willing to come back out they next day, a Saturday, to finish the job & also knock out some work for my neighbors. Most companies would have probably taking Saturday & Sunday off & not gotten back out to the following week, but H&D were willing to sacrifice their Saturday to finish the job. I've already recommended them to a few other neighbors & will continue to recommend them to others. Thanks!

Matt was very punctual . When him and his crew came to start the job at my house he was very professional and wanted to make sure I was satisfied with the work. He went above and beyond while doing the job and also gave me a recommendation for some one to do the stump grinding. I was very happy with his work and would definitely recommend him to others. Thanks for an awesome job of cutting down my tree and trimming up the other tree.

They did show up( which 2 other companies I contacted did not without a phone call)..and on time to take care of my two 60 or so foot pine trees and trimming of my Canary Island Palm. They were courteous, friendly, and very neat. Based on this experience, I would definitely recommend APS.

Josh was very professional, punctual and did a great job in trimming and cleaning up trees, removing debris and going above and beyond. I will definitely be using him in the future. As you can see, the trees and patio were quite the mess. The area and fence is all cleaned up. Heck, I didn't even know I had a BBQ Grill under all that mess. I've tipped the table to remove it. Hope you can view photos and see what a great job. Josh cut and hauled off all debris and there was a lot. Thanks, Josh!

I have used Likeable Landscapes for the past 3 years on all of my rental properties. I recently contracted them to take care of my parents property. My parents are extremely hard to please & so far, they have nothing bad to say about the way their yard looks. I have also used them for extra help (tree trimming, debris removal...) when needed, especially after the hurricane. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
