Marcos changed out our old, beat-down Corian sink to a new, larger, stainless steel apron sink. He was quick, professional, and responsive from even before the start of the project through to the end. He gave an upfront price, advice on materials needed, and was very flexible on when to do the project. Worked late and quickly, cutting the Corian countertop and cabinet, redoing the plumbing, adding a new garbage disposal and faucet, and installing the sink--all in a few short hours one night, with an incredibly fair price on the additional work needed. Very nice guy, giving excellent value and service! Can't get better than that. Thanks, Marcos!

I hired Daryl to make some changes to my oak cabinets that included changing the cabinet size over the stove in order to accommodate a microwave. He quickly came to give a reasonable estimate. Accomodated my various requests pleasantly and patiently. Worked professionally and did very good work in a fast turnaround time. I would hire him again for any carpentry needs and have already begun recommending him to my friends. He is a 4th generation carpenter. He does his work with skill and pride.

We renovated our whole house basically. All cabinets refinished, paint inside and out, some tile work and new countertops in bathrooms. We are very pleased with the end result. There were hiccups but Steve was always patient and worked to make sure everything came out the way we wanted. He changed some things after started when I changed my mind without complaint. Will definitely be calling him again. :)

Carlos is a pro. Knows his stuff. Professional. Has experience and knowledge. I'll definitely use him again. Helped me hang some cabinets and doors in a laundry room. Not a huge job, but enough for me to know he can be relied upon and knows what he is doing.

My wife recently asked me to re-finish an old wooden file cabinet. It had been painted an ugly green, an my wife thought I could strip the paint and stain it. I knew this would be no easy task, and I suggested, unsuccessfully, that a new oak cabinet would be a better option. I found TwigTree on line, sent Richard photos, and I quickly received a quite reasonable quote from TwigTree. Richard inspected the cabinet, and found it to be "older than dirt" (Richard's quote). Moving parts (including drawer rails and rollers) were wood, not metal. Richard researched the manufacturer (who went out business 70 years ago) and determined this was likely manufactured for the military in WWII (explains the ugly green color). My wife now has a beautiful dark oak file cabinet, and (most amazingly) the drawers slide out with one finger (used to require a mule and a crow bar). I do not hesitate to recommend TwigTree; Richard will surpass your expectations!

Hired Randy to hang a medicine cabinet and mirror. He was on time and very professional. He asked me prior to hanging the mirror if I liked it and I realized it was way too small for the space. Decided to have him change out old outlets for new child safety outlets instead. Had him come back the next week to hang the new mirror which was his idea, a big mirror with white frame. He cut the frame out and hung it and it looks amazing! I wish I could share a photo. He also hooked up our double sinks and installed a towel bar and toilet paper holder. I would highly recommend Randy for any and all jobs. He charges a fair rate and is extremely professional. SO happy to have found him. Will definitely be hiring him in the future for any and all jobs. Thank you again!!

I can't say enough good things about John and the work he did for us. We hired him to build us a large, modern, floating cabinet for our living room. It needed to be custom built to fit around a 74 inch electric fireplace, and we wanted cabinet doors on either side of the fireplace. John showed us pics of work he had done, wood samples, and then took our ideas and his expertise and created a MASTERPIECE. I'd post pics if Thumbtack would let me because it's beyond beautiful. We loved it so much we hired him to make us a custom dining table with a custom bench. Only a month later, and all the pieces are finished, in our condo, and look stunning. The attention to detail John puts into his work is impressive and impeccable. Also, I can honestly say he is the BEST communicator of any contractor we have ever used (and we've used a lot for many different projects). We texted him with LOTS of questions and photos and we never waited more than a few minutes for a reply. I didn't expect such prompt replies EVERY time, but he always made himself available and was always friendly, knowledgeable, patient, and accommodating. AND he cleaned up after the installation (even when I told him he didn't have to, he insisted.) Last but not least, we love his work so much that we've also hired him to make us new kitchen cabinets and I KNOW they are going to be amazing. True story: My father (who had been in the furniture business for over 30 years) saw the dining table today and said, "I'm astonished and happy to see that furniture like this is still being made, because I haven't seen anything close to this quality in stores." Not one complaint, or suggestion for improvement. We were impressed from start to finish. We wish we could give more than 5 stars.

Brian and his team at Renovate Tampa Bay remodeled my kitchen. I thought updating my kitchen was going to be a long process but it ended up only being a week. In two days the old cabinets were removed and beautiful white cabinets were installed and the granite was installed 3 days after! Brian had given a window of 2 weeks and it was all done well before that!

Wow!!!! From the immediate response, same day service, quality and professionalism you can't go wrong. Sal and Mike came to help me hang pictures ...may sound silly but as a single woman with lots of pictures I needed Help! NOT only were the everything listed above but they have an amazing eye for placement, style and design. I accepted their quote thinking I'd finally get some pictures hung and after a quick couple of hours I have an amazing layout of all my pictures including collage walls and hard To hang items. The were fast but exceptionally efficient, quality driven AND they were friendly and comfortable to chat with! Sal mentioned having been raised by an interior design mom And it showed. I will Absolutely be calling them again!

Whitehead Enterprises built us four new, large built-in cabinets at our office and he designed and matched them perfectly with our existing cabinetry. He was very easy to work with and the final product is better that we envisioned. Great value for money, will definitely be using Whitehead Enterprises for any future cabinetry work.

Mr. Meadows is a very respectful and very informational and knowledgeable contractor. Not a pushy type person. He has tried to help me and my wife save on a project that has been a nightmare for us. I would recommend him to everyone. Not trying to put him on a pedestal but one thing is he took us to a cabinet shop and we have not seen the product yet but if it turns out the way it was designed I did my research and those cabinets at Home Depot would double in cost. Good company and after things are done I will put another review on this site just to let you know how this project turned out. Thanks, Terry

Wow, is all I can say when it comes to Lamonds work!! He has gone above and beyond my expectations when it comes to his carpentry work. I have know him for a few years now, so it is to the point where when I needed a in home bar designed for my house I let him fully design and install it before I saw anything and I was 100% satisfied. This past weekend he did the same for me, and designed, built, and installed a outdoor mounted tv box by my pool area and was once again 100% satisfied with his work! He has also done lots of other handyman tasks around my house from mounting and installing 5 televisions, to removing and installing chandeliers, and even changing out electrical outlets. I trust his expertice so much he had also built desks, and cabinets with cubbies for my workplace as well as mounting televisions there. He was also the main contractor prior to us moving into the property and he painted over 3000 sq ft in a quick amount of time. If you need any sort of work done around the house or in the workplace definitely contact Lamond!!

The best thing about SCW was the quality of work, the dependability and the overall cost....very happy with these factors and would not hesitate to use again. The kitchen came out better than we dreamed it would,. The new ceiling and lights, the new flooring and the refaced cabinets and pullout drawers came out perfectly. And the living room has been changed into a beautiful area which we now take great pride in.All work was completed timely and with a touch of personal care. Not one complaint to be found!!

I hired Martin to paint my kitchen cabinets, his quote was good but he did say he had to see the job to confirm. He was able to work with my schedule as I am only available on weekends and my cabinets look awesome! I had other work I needed done around the house before the holidays and he was able to get everything done. Nice and easy to deal with.

About

There are hundreds of cabinet makers that claim to make "custom cabinets" but installing cabinets and playing around with crown molding or fancy trim they just bought from a millwork company isn't custom work. Custom work is when you throw away all standards and let the customer tell you what he/she wants you to make. Instead of buying a corner make a corner at your shop and incorporate a secret compartment. Have a full column that looks like a column and feels like a column but hides a special feature. Whenever you the customer asks: " can you add a special trim here?" and the cabinet maker says yes, ask if they are going to make the actual trim or buy it?. If they're buying it, more than likely they are also buying the cabinets. Don't get me wrong, wood is wood here and anywhere else in the world. But I will never grab a brush and compare myself to Michelangelo.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

      How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
