Teresa sat down with me after the two of us reviewed the work needing to be performed my front yard. We went over possible designs and Teresa also took the time to go with me to look at possible local plants which I was interested. Her full pictured album also incorporates many different projects and plants which her company has performed. I'm holding my rating temporarily because I have requested her return tomorrow to complete another area of the landscaping superiority which she appears to hold. Teresa's arrived exactly at the time she stated. which was a little surprising knowing that there was incredible traffic which she would face, coming from the area her company is located. The crew immediately went to work removing all old things and preparing the surfaces for the new look. It took probably 5-6 hours of non stop work with Teresa never leaving the area of supervising the crew. I have pave stones which appears to hold some of the residue dirt left after the job was completed though they attempted to wash it clean. A good advise to Teresa is that all merchandise purchased should be pointed out to the customer along with the count of each. Anything left over should be credited to the final billing of merchandise that wasn't used. This is not to insinuate that I wasn't given what was promised, however when the job is completed, it confirms what was actually ordered.

This was the first company I ever hired on thumbtack. I WAS VERY HESITANT ABOUT doing business this way but I had a great experience. GABRIEL was my point of contact for this job. (Paver installation). He showed up on a Sunday for a free quote. He came back a second time on a Sunday for a seperate quote when i made some changes to my original paver layout. I was so scared to give money to someone before a job had been started but I understood he needed half the money to buy materials. (I had a bad experience with another company in the past)...he communicated with me at all times letting me know when profduct was ordered, when it would arrive, etc, etc etc. The day of the job went very smoothly. He has a very nice group of employees that did the work. Easy to talk to and ask questions while they work. They finished 600 sq feet in one day:). And worked on the weekend bc we had very bad rain all week therefore the job had been delayed. I had one complaint about the pavers and immediately Gabriels team came back and graciously took care of it without making me feel horrible about it:)... In conclusion, i really enjoyed doing business with this company. In fact i have already called him at least 4 times with questions on other potential jobs for them. The only, thing id recommend is that when laying pavers, ask how close they will actually get to the fence when they are laid (IF YOU HAVE A FENCE). We have a 6 inch space between the fence and the pavers that I was not expecting to have. We ended up filling the space with landscaping stones. I am positive there was a good reason for this spacing, but Id ask either way ... Loved loved loved doing business with this team....A++++++++++,5********,💯💯💯💯💯 I will try to post pics later, or Gabriel has some Im sure:)

When my wife and I decided it was time to change our floor coverings to wood floors I did what most of us do today, went to the internet. After three visits from different flooring companies, none that we were happy with, I did it the old fashion way calling on friends and family. That’s when I was introduced to MD Hardwood Flooring and Mike Dempsey. This was a different experience for us as Mike explained what types of woods and install options could be used. I learned the difference between free floating, glue down and nail down floors. Our floors were ordered, prepped and installed in a the time frame Mike had given. The bad part was my wife was so satisfied with the work she decided to move up to the second floor and do our bedroom and walk in closet. Same great work. These guys really take pride in what they do. Mike is a true wood worker with many years experience. His finishing touches make the difference. I wish I could post a picture of how he installed the floor around our stone fireplace in our family from. We are calling Mike and the MD crew back to do two more upstairs bedrooms. Our home will be carpet free. Great guy, great company. We now recommend MD to our family and friends.

Fantastic job! Albert and his crew were meticulous at making sure our lawn looked great! They mowed, weedeated, edged and blew. We have stepping stones that weave throughout our backyard and they made sure each stone was edged around. Definitely recommend them!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

    • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
      • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
    • 620 square feet of maple floor:
      • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
      • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
        • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

    • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
      • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
    • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
      • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
    • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
      • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
    • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
      • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
    • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
      • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
      • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
      • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
        • Includes removal of the dura rock.
    • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
