Allegra worked with me on my books and screenplays. She is fast, thorough and very bright, and as a big bonus has a fabulous sense of humor.

I can't say enough wonderful things about Beth! From the moment we connected I knew she was the photographer for our wedding. She was so enthusiastic, responsive and accommodating. On my wedding day Beth arrived a bit early which turned out to be a huge blessing because she brought a sense of calm to my hectic day. It was as if I had another friend with me. She got us all of our pictures practically the next day...which is unheard of! Do yourself a favor and book Beth!!'

I am an Author and Attorney and needed help with my websites and branding. From the start when I spoke with Chriss I could tell she knew what she was talking about. She helped me gain insight on how to align my goals as an author with what I was doing. She picked up the ball and ran with it and now I am on page one as an author. She knows how to do social media marketing and has helped with book sales and building my fan base. I liked her work so much so that I had her help my law firm too. She will go the extra mile to make. When she says she does this because she wants to make a difference she is telling the truth. Chriss is on time with deadlines, is always responsive to my calls and emails and often is reaching out to me to keep me engaged in my own endeavors. I highly recommend her.

Anthony was the technical director of my digital publishing company from 2009 to 2014 when the company was sold. He completely overhauled an archaic and disorganized database and operating system and was the key reason we were able to grow to a profitable and valuable company.

I honestly don't know what I would do if there wasn't a Cynthia Macgregor. From writing poems for me, to press releases, to great Domain names, to helping me with copy for a book, to.....I really could go on and on. She's a "One Man Band". A true genius! I give her a project one day and in more cases than not, I have what I need the following day! There's no one better!!

Donald MacLaren has been very helpful to me as I set out to write a couple of novels about Africa and America. He helped me as a ghostwriter a few years ago with my first novel which about my home country of Sierra Leone entitled "The Diamonds." I used Mr. MacLaren again as a ghostwriter and editor to revise and edit another novel entitled "Journey to Dreamland." Also, he helped me to revise and edit another novel entitled "Kigba’s Fate." Over the years, I found Mr. MacLaren very helpful and his work has always been very professional. He has always been very fair to me with his prices and his suggestions. Mr. MacLaren’s Ph.D. book editor has also provided very expertise suggestions on these three novels. I would recommend Mr. MacLaren as a ghostwriter and editor. In fact, I did acknowledge Mr. MacLaren in the Acknowledgments of the three novels that I have listed

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

        • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
        • Strong writing skills.
        • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
        • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
        • Expertise in your target area.
        • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

        • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
        • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
        • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
        • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
