I hired Lori to house sit/pet sit while we were out of town. I could not have been happier. My house looked better than when I left it and my pets were super well taken care of. I've now booked Lori for all my out of town stays. She's the best.

The best dog groomer in town! She was quick - none of my dogs were injured... none of my pets were left with blade rashes...like other too expensive groomers (150.00 for one dog) I have 3. She was fair with price and was very friendly and timely with our appointment time! She will always be my regular groomer...

Martha is very gifted at her trade and we were incredibly happy with our experience! She went above and beyond to help us better train our dog, and was even kind enough to dog-sit for us while we were out of town one weekend so our tempermental pup didn't have to be put in boarding and potentially reverse all that we had worked on. While we were sad to lose her to Tampa, we continue to work with our dog daily on the tips and tricks she gave us to be more effective with him!

Our 1 year old Blue Heeler was out of control. We needed help. Zeus couldn't be walked because he would bark and cry (like he himself was hit by a car) every time he saw another car/dog/bike/person. It was horrifying not just for us, but for the people in the cars/walking. We have had 2 other training classes .. 1 group puppy training ( we were asked to leave because he was disrupting the other puppies ) and 1 on 1 training at the local pet store .. after the 8 sessions and reinforcing all the bad behavior the trainer said she couldn't do anything for him. After phone interviewing several trainers I opted to go with Luis and we are so glad we did!! Luis is amazing!! (we knew this after the 1st session) We've now had 4 training sessions, and my daughter who had never walked Zeus was walking thru Publix parking lot on a Friday afternoon .. with cars & tons of people with a well behaved dog!! Luis is patient, kind and has worked with the entire family individually and together so we can all have Zeus under control. We've come a long way in a short amount of time thanks to Luis .. We highly recommend him!

Rhonda has been a life saver for us. We previously had a bad experience with another pet sitter and were hesitant to try someone new. Rhonda loves our cats like they are her own and they love her. We wouldn't use anyone else.

Thank goodness I found Kendra! She was a pleasure to work with during her stay at my home with my (7) cuddly but irresponsible dogs. She always showed up when she said she would and always communicated with me daily and sent pictures of my babies. A truly lovely lady to work with! Kendra will always be my "go-to" pet sitter, I hope she is always willing to take us on too!! A genuine pleasure to work with. Thank you so VERY much Kendra (hugs).

This is a respectable and compassionate professional pet caretaker. Eleanor "Cookie" provides the specific care I need for my diabetic cat, Ikee. He needs insulin twice a day and Cookie did not hesitate, where other pet sitters did. That, to me, is the difference between a sitter and a professional caregiver. Your pet family is in excellent hands with her!

V.I.C. is awesome! My pet sitter of 8 years just retired so this was my first time with them but it will certainly not be my last. They are keepers! On top of all the other outstanding qualities I have checked, I loved the feedback provided online by the sitter daily, complete with pictures. It meant a lot to be able to get an update and see my furry ones! Of course everything was perfect when we got home.

Linda was pet sitter (stayed in our home, too) to our cocker spaniel for at least 5-6 yrs before his death Fall 2017. We never worried about the house or Lexus (our dog) any time Linda was there. She was attentive to changes in L’s routines and behaviors and updated us if she felt she needed to do so. She had been his groomer for several years before, therefore, knew his temperament and likes/dislikes. Linda stayed with Lexus for periods of 2 days to over 2 weeks. We always came home to a happy dog and a home as clean (or cleaner) than when we left! Of course, as you would expect, there were a couple of “out of the ordinary” situations Linda ran into. She was resourceful in solving them or called for our help if needed. We loved the occasional pictures she sent assuring us our beloved pet was doing well. Linda would still be our pet sitter today if Lexus were still with us. Should we decide to get another pet, she will be the first person we call for sitting services.

I had just moved here and was still unpacking, Julie was such a big help in organizing everything. She did a really good job with putting my sons room together. I also use Julie as a laundry service. I really like that she uses my preferred detergent and delivers the same day. She even puts everything away! Julie is very affordable and always meets my expectations with the work I need done.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
