How much does it cost to fix a door?

On average, people pay around $233 to have their doors fixed. But you could pay more (or less) depending on the repairs that are needed. How do you fix a broken door?

Doors have several moving parts and take a lot of wear and tear, so they can break in multiple ways. One of the most common types of breakage is broken hinges. Fixing this problem may involve using a chisel, glue and other specialty tools.

For any repairs you don’t feel comfortable doing yourself, hire a professional. A door repair service, contractor, carpenter or handyman may be able to fix your door issues.

Can you fix a door that's been kicked in?

A door that has been kicked in can usually be repaired, but this type of repair is generally more expensive than standard repairs. The extent of damage is the largest driver of cost. The pro may need to replace the entire door, repaint or stain it, fix damaged locks and hardware, or even replace it entirely.

Consult with a door repair professional near you to find out if your door can be fixed or if it should be replaced.

John did a great job repairing my sliding aluminum doors (circa 1960). Doors are working well and looks great. Couldn’t be happier. Thanks John!

I expected a more professional finish on the rusted part of my door he tried to repair. He came with no materials to do the job, not even saw horses to put the door on to repair it. His female companion waited in his car (not a pickup truck) while he did the job. His attitude was good but I don't think he had the tools or knowledge to do a good job.

Within 90 minutes of posting to Thumbtack, Steffan was at my address assessing a sliding glass door that had become difficult to close. Another handyman (contacted through another platform) had told me that the entire set of doors would have to be replaced at a minimum cost of $1000. Steffan had the existing doors repaired in 5 minutes. Awesome! He was super friendly and clearly knows what he's doing. I will definitely be hiring him again.

Mohamed was amazing to work with! He responded to my request within minutes and repaired my gate door the same day. The quality of his work is great, and the price was very reasonable. I look forward to working with him on future projects!

I hired Mohamed after I attempted to fix my uneven pocket door and ended up unfortunately injuring a finger in the process. Though after hiring Mohamed, he did the repairs like a piece of cake and I enjoyed his work so much that I'm also having him back to work on my wood decking. Thanks!
