I looked on the Internet for a bee removal service and came across Thumbtack. I received 4 quotes and Citarella was the lowest. After speaking to the owner on the phone I was confident they would do a good job. The technician arrived on time, was efficient and very pleasant. After completing the service he told me he would be back in 3 days to look for anymore bees and he did. Because of their excellent service, I hired them for year round service both inside and out of my home.

When Moe came out for the inspection he did a very thorough job in comparison to others. He was professional and truly addressed all my concerns, and was clear about how to treat it. I canceled another inspection I had because I knew this was the sort of company I’d want to come out—one that treats your house the way they’d want theirs treated! Side note: On the day of treatment he even removed a bottle of toothpaste we had stuck between our cabinet and wall. An added bonus I’ll say lol.

After hearing something in my attic, I called Kris at KB Pest Management and he made himself available within hours. He was the only one that I was able to get approximate pricing from on the phone so I wasn't shell shocked after he came over. He arrived on time and was very professional. He did a complete inspection and told/showed me areas that could have allowed a critter to get into my attic. He also said he could see rat droppings in the attic so he set traps and said he would return every other day to remove whatever was caught. As promised, he returned in two days and removed a rat caught in one of the traps. He said he would be back again in two days and I have no doubt he will return as promised. Initially, Kris told me on the phone what his minimum charge would be if the job wasn't a big project and exactly what he quoted was exactly what he charged. It was very reasonable for the work completed and I recommend Kris to anyone looking for a nice, honest and reasonably priced Pest Management/Critter Removal specialist.

I HIGHLY recommend Nuisance Wildlife Removal! I had a surprise BEE swarm on my front porch and bees were also showing up buzzing inside my home in my office. They came out the SAME DAY to take a look! They evaluated and came up with a solution and I was quickly reassured because of their promptness and professionalism. Jeff made sure the job was completed to my satisfaction. What started out as a terrifying problem, soon became a resolved issue and I could breathe a sigh of relief! Call them! You won't regret it.

Ron came out to our house and treated for ghost ants. He was very professional. We worked on removing the ants ourselves for weeks with no luck. He followed the trail through the house and to the outside. He treated the trail outside keeping the chemicals away from my children's reach. The ants were gone by the next day. We are also switching our termite protection to Hannan. They use a termite sniffing dog to check for termites. The last company we had found termite wings near a door to our house and told us we had to tent and treat the whole house. There was no sign of the termites in the attic above the door and we have a block wall home. I removed the door and trim and did not find any termites. Termites were attracted to the outside light by the door. The dog would have saved me the trouble and worry.

I made my husband call these guys after I'd seen a huge snake in the yard when I let my dog out. Two hours later there was a guy in my backyard that found it fast and got it out of there. I can finally go outside again!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do pest control companies do?

Pest control companies handle all aspects of bug, rodent and animal extermination or removal. Pest control professionals visit your home or office to identify the type of pest that is troubling you and offer various treatment plans — complete with clearly outlined costs. Once you and the pest control company have a signed agreement, the pro will begin treatment. Pest treatment can range from the use of spray pesticides and gel bait to live and/or kill traps. There are a wide range of types of pesticides, many of them nontoxic for humans and other small animals. This means you may be able to have your home treated for pests without harming nearby wildlife or your dog and cat. The pest control pro will carry out the treatment plan and, depending on the service agreement, provide follow-up such as emptying traps, inspecting access points, or reapplying pesticide spray if the pests return. Costs will vary based on the type of pest you are having removed and the extent of the infestation. The average national pest control price range is $80-$130. From a minor bedbug event to an entire home termite infestation, pest control companies have got you covered.

How much does it cost to treat a house for termites?

Termites are not only creepy-crawly, they can literally eat your house out from underneath you. Termites feed on damp and dry wood and can chomp through your house at an alarming rate. The national average pest control cost for termite extermination is $240-$400. Treatment costs can be higher for an extensive infestation. Here are some examples of average pest control costs for termites:

  • Liquid treatment of subterranean termites: $3-$4 per linear foot.
    • For $75 per year, a company may offer a maintenance plan that provides inspection of the property and renewal of the warranty.
  • Liquid treatment of subterranean termites: approximately $400 for a 2,000-square-foot home at $3-$5 per linear foot.
    • The price is higher for additional work such as foaming and drilling inside of concrete slabs.
  • Fumigation treatment of drywood termites: $1,200-$1,500 for a 30,000- to 35,000-cubic-foot home
    • Fumigation is measured in cubic feet because it fills the airspace of the home and infiltrates the wood that the termites may be colonizing. The cost of fumigation is affected by the number of levels in the home as well as the square footage.

How much does it cost to get rid of cockroaches?

Cockroaches are not only ugly, they are difficult to get rid of. Quick and resilient, they can be hard to get rid of without professional help once they have inhabited a house. Nationally, the average range for cockroach pest control cost is $80-$130. Extermination professionals typically provide a free estimate to determine the extent of the infestation. They’ll check for the main sources of the bugs, identify bug access and entry points into your home, and determine the best method for elimination. There are a variety of cockroach extermination tools including gel baits and traps, pesticide foggers, desiccants (which dry out the cockroaches), neurotoxins, and other pesticides. Pest control costs can also cover preventive measures like regular spraying and trap maintenance. Some regions of the country are much more prone to cockroach problems than others, so pest control costs may need to be part of your quarterly budget. Cockroaches love dark, humid, and warm areas and water sources, so place traps near your washer and dryer and under your sinks.

How much does it cost to remove a mouse?

If you have a mouse in your house you’re probably quickly researching pest control costs. Mice, although tiny, can transmit diseases and also get into your food and leave unsanitary droppings around your home. If you have seen one mouse in your house, it’s likely that more have taken up residence in your crawl space, attic or basement. The national average pest control cost is $150-$200. Costs can vary depending on whether you need to get rid of a population of living mice or just dispose of a dead mouse (or full traps), how extensive the mouse population is, and where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pest control cost for removing a mouse:

  • $150 for initial trap setup and inspection (and sealing of entry holes).
    • $50 for rodent removal service calls and emptying of traps. This visit can also include identifying and sealing entry points that were not sealed on the first visit.
  • Rodent extermination: $110-$350, depending on how heavy the rodent population is, whether the mouse infestation poses health risks, how many entrances exist and how many rodent bait stations are needed.

How much does it cost to get a pest inspection?

In general there is no cost for a pest inspection. Exterminators typically provide a free property or building inspection and then provide you with a written estimate outlining the necessary treatment and cost. The home visit allows the exterminator to assess the problem and let you know what your pest control cost will be if you contract with their services. You may need a termite inspection for real estate purposes. This will be a verified inspection showing that the house in question is termite-free (often done before a sale). The inspection may cost a flat rate, such as $125-$150, depending on house size.

It’s hard to predict pest control costs sight unseen due to the variety of factors that go into pest treatment. For example, a bedbug problem for one customer may be confined to one room and be easy to access and treat in one visit if the room is clear of clutter and the bedbugs have been caught early. In another home, a bedbug problem may also be confined to one room, but there’s a great deal of clutter, providing more hiding places for the bugs and requiring more spray and labor for the exterminator, as well as many pieces of large furniture in the room that need to sprayed. Depending on the maturity of the infestation, a bedbug problem may require multiple visits to entirely eliminate. This is why many companies provide a free inspection to determine pest control costs and provide you the most accurate quote possible.
