Introduction: I teach clarinet and piano lessons. I have a master's degree in clarinet performance from The Juilliard School at Lincoln Center, NYC and my bachelor's degree is in music therapy from FL State University. Currently, I have had my teaching business, Carrollwood Music for over 20 years. I teach clarinet to serious students of all ages and piano lessons to both typical as well as to special needs students, with a piano specialty in autism. I am also a Bb/A/ and Eb piccolo clarinetist with The South Shore Symphony Orchestra of Ruskin, FL. Our season runs from October to May with performances in Sun City and Carrollwood. I have been a teacher in the public and private schools with a Music Certification and Autism Certification I have taught chorus, orchestra & classroom music for all ages, K-12. For clarinet, I give clarinet master classes, private and class lessons, and band and orchestra sectional rehearsals for clarinet and winds. I'm almost 70 years old and I'm taking piano lessons from Carol. She is a excellent teacher with a great deal of patience. She is always prepared and on time and even though I'm old she demands from me exactly the same as from a young student. I feel very privileged to take classes from a teacher of her caliber.

Carol Sperry Johnson made my son feel comfortable right away, which is not an easy thing to do. She is such a positive person and so encouraging as a piano teacher. I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a piano teacher!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Yes...I have been an FBA adjudicator for Solo & Ensemble for Hillsborough County, and, for the State of Florida....i belong to several music clubs, locally and country-wide allowing MY students to perform, and, to hear city-wide talent with their instrument. I also have a degree in Music Therapy from FSU, with a 6-month internship in a Tallahassee hospital. I attend the anual American Association of Music Therapy (AAMT) conference each November, to stay updated on the latest techniques of working with special populations of people with music. "MUSIC PERFORMS MIRACLES!"
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I had a burning in my heart to perform! My father was Chairman of the Music Dept at USF, Tampa, and my mother was a choir director and piano teacher---was there anything else but music?!
What types of customers have you worked with?
providing excellent comminication of musical knowlege while primarily providing positive reinforcement to promote the growth of a student's self esteem. I love kids! and they should all have a chance to feel great about their positive endeavors.
