Dog training type
Board and train at a facility
We have a 5 month old Goldendoodle that is a bundle of energy. Needed help with housebreaking, obedience, crating and leash walking. Marti assessed our dogs behavior and was confident she could work with her. We opted to send our dog with Marti for a 10 day boot camp and board her at her home. When our dog Harley came home Marti discussed all facets of her training and took the time to teach us hand commands and the proper cue technique to continue reinforcing what she has learned. Harley is 10 times more obedient, is a pleasure to walk, sits, stays and lays down on command. I highly recommend Marti for her knowledge and training skills. If you want a dog that you can be proud of give Marti a try you'll be glad you did!Apr 27, 2016Verified
Marti is an excellent trainer, both for the owner and the dog, or dogs in my case. The improvement after the initial visit is beyond my expectation. She came prepared with collars and harnesses and tried different options to figure out which would be most effective for both the dogs and the owners. We plan on scheduling another lesson, after we continue to work with the dogs on our own for a little while. You can tell marti truly cares about your pet and the well being of both you and your dog. I would highly recommend her if you are looking for a dog/owner trainer.Feb 26, 2014Verified
She stayed two minutes and said she could not help my dog.Jun 10, 2016VerifiedMarti Hohmann Dog Training's reply
I sincerely regret this client's disappointment. I declined to take this case because her dog's issues are best handled by a veterinary behaviorist, a referral I provided. I specialize in obedience, and refer fear, anxiety, and aggression to specialists in canine emotional issues. I listened to this dog's history and observed her behavior for about 20 minutes and concluded I was not the right person for the job. This is the purpose of an evaluation -- to determine if the trainer, dog, and owner are the right fit. To have taken this case would have been irresponsible on my part, and I stand by my decision.
Marti was just a pleasure to work with. She is obviously well qualified as a trainer and is highly recommended given her in-depth knowledge with animals and is clearly results driven for your pets achievement. Her assistance was very much appreciated. Great job Marti, Great results, thank you.Feb 7, 2014Verified

- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?I offer discounts for packages of 5, 10, and 20 private lessons.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I go the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) conference every year. I passed the Certified Professional Dog Trainer - Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA) exam in 2003. This involved hours of study, letters of reference from clients, a veterinarian and a colleague. As a CPDT-KA, pursue continuing education and get recertified every 3 years. As someone who shows dogs in obedience, rally, and scent work, I also attend seminars with training professionals from across the United States.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?I started showing dogs when I was 8 years old. After completing graduate school, and working in book publishing and Internet content development, I realized that I loved working with dogs. I made a career change to pursue that passion and haven't looked back.
