JT provided excellent music for our wedding on the beach and also at our reception after the ceremony. He played acoustic guitar on the beach and also provided a blue tooth speaker that could play our music selections. All of our guests were blown away by his talent! It helps that he is ultra friendly and easy to work with. JT, thanks for making our day extra special!

Couldn't have asked for a better ceremony/ cocktail hour musician for our wedding in Winter Park, FL. Neal was extremely accommodating and flexible with our music selection and the time frame we had to work with. Not to mention it was somewhat short notice, which was extremely appreciated as well. I would recommend Neal for your next event if you're looking for a talented and professional musician!

My wife and I could not have been any more impressed with the show that Luis and his band put on for us! I promise you, you will not get a better band at a better price. Amy was an amazing MC and entertainer. She had me on stage singing, she had my dad singing with the band, we had air guitar battles. Our reception was an absolute blast! Heck we even chanted for an encore. Luis met with us weeks before the wedding and came up with a perfect gameplan/setlist for the night and that alone really took a lot of stress of my wife and I. We can’t thank Luis, Amy and the band enough for making our wedding night one to remember!

Joel was personable and professional! He was the perfect choice for our wedding videography and produced a beautiful film. As a bride who planned everything from her phone, I really appreciated Joel's prompt responses to emails and calls!

The Band played at our daughter's wedding reception. What a great evening. They can play most anything and they bring along songs that people can look over and pick from. We have also seen them at the House of Blues. If your having any kind of event, this is the band to have!

First thing I have to say is THANK YOU Matt and his Wife for all the hard work they put into making My Wedding special! They are very dedicated for your needs and wants. They spend time step by step helping you figure out exactly what is best for you. They did the ceremony and dj for my wedding and everything was perfect. They are very professional but at the same time treat you like your friend. They have made heartwarming memories for me and my new wife. They are fun, uplifting, and work with unexpected situations. They respect you and whatever plans you throw at them. The ceremony was announced perfectly and the music was on point. The rehearsal was very fun for my family. The DJ table and the lights was very cool! The music was great and beyond what we asked. This isn’t some Radom promotion or recommendation, it is true. My wife and considered them apart of our family and are very blessed to have come across such great people! Also if you don’t believe me contact me

She was right on time and was playing for my wedding exactly when I asked her to. Her music was phenomenal and everyone loved her. She was also very flexible, the wedding ran behind and stayed an extra hour upon last minute request. My husband had his grooms room next to where she was playing and couldn't stop telling me how much he enjoyed her.

Absolutely amazing! I had so much going on planning my wedding and I never once had to worry about Frank, which was such a sense of relief. He was such a professional, so easy to work with and they performed beautifully throughout our entire catholic ceremony. They gave everyone in that church goosebumps and I received so many compliments afterwards. They were exceptional!

I had a one-time lesson with Michelle the day before a performance with a band. I don't have much of a music background, but Michelle was able to explain things clearly with a little bit of music theory which I appreciated. She was able to help me transpose two songs to a different key. The performance went well, and I wouldn't have been able to do as well without her help. She was super flexible with me as she had never had a request like this before. I highly recommend her.

I am the owner of DG Rockers Guitar and Music School, a private music school located in Brooklyn, NY. Mr. Valentín has served as music instructor as well as music director for over 2 years at my school. Based on my experience, I believe his dedication, passion, knowledge, and innovation have proved to make him an amazing teacher. I first met Francisco on October of the year 2013 when he was interviewing for the position of piano instructor at my school and I remember right away knowing that he would be a great fit. His humility and passion towards serving others was evident right away. Francisco has an incredible gift of being able to connect with young people through music. Over the years I saw Francisco take initiative and build up the music program, composing songs mindfully catered to his students’ musical development, creating his own music learning sheets, inventing comparisons and games to help his students better understand musical concepts, and even simplifying more advanced musical exercises such as the Hanon techniques so that his students could begin strengthening their coordination and technique right from the beginning. I also witnessed him bringing an idea we brainstormed together to life by creating fun and effective rock band classes and putting together concerts with me to showcase our students’ achievements. His upbeat, positive, and kind demeanor was always a great source of inspiration for our students, their parents, and his peers. The passion with which he taught each class cultivated a love for music in every student’s heart that I believe has left a lasting imprint. We always believed in building a sense of community with our students and their parents. This was something that Mr. Valentín was very passionate about, to the extent that he became a mentor and positive role model to our students, catching up with them every class, advising them positively on all matters musical and non-musical, and even bringing them Christmas gifts. He also became a great friend to our family of parents, always treating them with respect, kindness, and talking with them after classes. I believe Mr. Valentín would be a tremendous teacher for anyone and has my utmost recommendation. Tito was the MC/DJ at my wedding and he did an amazing job! He made announcements in both Spanish and English, which was important to us because we had some guests who only spoke one or the other. He brought really great music for the reception, which I felt was perfect for the atmosphere we wanted. He kept everyone laughing and comfortable with his family-friendly humor, which we were very grateful for since a lot of our guests had brought their children. Tito stayed from the beginning of our ceremony until the very end of our reception, helping us in any way he could, even talking personally with our guests and helping everyone have a great time. He exceeded our expectations in every way.

We hired Brown Bag Brass Band for our entire wedding from start to finish (ceremony, cocktail hour, reception) and they were absolutely AMAZING! I truly cannot say enough good things about them. Our experience was so smooth and easy. Joe met with us twice leading up to the wedding to talk about exactly what we wanted and how the day would play out. They took detailed notes and made sure no stones were left unturned. The entire group (we had a 7 piece band) was professional and fun. We had specific music we wanted in addition to Jazz (we like ska music) and they went out of their way to not only include songs we loved.. but they even learned a new song (one of our favorites) to be played for the grand entrance. Hiring BBBB was one of the best decisions we made about our wedding. Our guests absolutely loved them and many still talk about them and go see their performances today. We even went and saw them play downtown for our first anniversary back in April. I recommend them 100%. They will bring an energy and fun vibe to your big day that is infectious and will have even the shyest of dancers on their feet!

This band really knows how to rock a wedding reception. They were full of energy and kept everyone on their feet. In addition, they went out of their way to dress according to our theme and compliment our reception in a very cohesive way. Thanks again! Melissa and Scott Anderson

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

      • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
      • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
      • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.
