Lawrence was very knowledgeable about his trade and took his time inside and outside of our property! He assured us that he could tackle our ant problem. (New construction with ant mounds everywhere.) We look forward to keeping him around for regular maintenance!

Very nice service and very nice people. Arrived at a moments call - quick response and quick arrival. Very thorough with their work, not just a quick spray of the doors like other larger companies. Made sure to specially treat any areas I specified as well as the recommended areas. I will continue to use their services!

Just moved in to a new house, and the yard had been very much neglected. It needed massive leaf removal. Alex promptly got the huge job done. He even sent us pictures while we were at work to make sure we were satisfied with the results.

James has done a TREMENDOUS job ridding our home of bed bugs. It was a problem that seemed never ending, but with one call, all of my worries were gone! James listened to our issues, gave us detailed explanations of what the treatment would be and has been in constant communication to make sure we are bug free! I am beyond happy to say that we are. His professionalism, promptness and overall knowledge of these insects are beyond these other companies I have to talked to and dealt with while fighting this issue. If you're on the fence, give him a call, you WILL NOT, regret it.

We hired David to do a quarterly pest control service. I did a price comparison with other companies and feel like we got a good deal. He comes out once a quarter to treat for any kind of bugs and pests and if there are any issues in between he'll come out for free. So far we haven't seen any roaches that usually come out at night. Nothing we tried on our own worked before, and I just hate having to deal with them. He also took care of ground bees that took residence in our front yard although that is usually treated by yard maintenance crews. We just recently moved into this house and were looking to take preventative measures against termites. We knew how much our neighbors were paying, and David actually quoted us less. So again--a great deal and a great job. Highly recommend him for how thorough and fair he is. He goes out of his way to help his customers out.

Dragonfly Mosquito and Pest Specialists were amazing! They were extremely responsive and were able to help us within a matter of days. We had rodents getting into a property we owned and these guys were awesome in working with both us and our tenants and responding to our tenants for removal of rodents super quickly! Definitely worth every penny. I would happily recommend them to anyone.

Shinya was very knowledgeable and thorough on inspecting the house and explaining a course of action for two flying squirrels in our attic. He did the job on time and budget. He even goes above and beyond for his customers. He noticed many gutter guards missing on our second story, and offered to replace them while he was up there. He removed leaves from the gutter, and cobwebs on the second story windows. He finished the job by doing a complete clean up, and the lawn looked better than when he started. I would recommend Shinya's company for any issues with critters.

I had an excellent experience with Cal Scapes and I am so glad that I hired them to do my yards today! The owner was on time, professional, listened very carefully to what I wanted done, was able to answer several questions that I had about trees and he had a great deal of knowledge about different flowers, plants, bushes and trees. I was very impressed with his knowledge in overall horticulture and landscaping. My yards look absolutely beautiful and I will definitely be hiring Cal Scapes to do more work in the near future! GREAT JOB!

Called Arete with a wasp hive issue and they were very prompt and had a resource out to remove the hive in less than 24 hours. Arete was GREAT! Very thorough in their paperwork and the exterminator they sent was AWESOME. He evaluated the situation, made a recommendation then resolved the issue promptly.

We recently moved into a new renovation in Belvedere park and needed a lot of work done in the front and backyards. Both areas had trash and invasive vines embedded in the ground, and the backyard was almost completely bereft of grass. In addition, the soil was hard and rocky. Lamont, owner of Landscape Legends, responded very quickly to our inquiry on Thumbtack and sent us a message. When we wanted to set up an appointment for an evaluation, he came the next day, was prompt, and very personable. That night he gave a line item quote of what it would cost to sod the front and back, the labor, put down mulch, and remove trash and vines. Other companies were slower getting out to our house for an evaluation, and even more important, some did not even send a quote after saying that they would. Lamont was always prompt with his replies and the cost that he projected was less expensive than virtually everyone else. When we decided to go with him, he began almost immediately and did the majority of the work on a weekend himself along with a two man crew. He provided helpful guidance on watering and had no problem clearing out embedded trash and other nuissances. Landscape Legends is professional, yet low key, which is the best combination. I would highly recommend them!

I can't even begin to express how grateful I am for Avexium. Robert came and gave me his professional and honest opinion and didn't want to charge me since he didn't think it was fair considering there wasn't much work he could do that I wasn't already doing. This was all after he helped me seal up vents on my roof. I reached out to a couple other companies before Avexium. Both companies just gave me a big quote and wouldn't even explain or walk me through the problem areas. Unlike Robert at Avexium who walked me through my house and gave me advice in great detail. He's the best!

Vinny was my savior today! I am terrified of snakes and had a copperhead on my back patio. Vinny responded to my job request this morning and was out at my home 2 hours later. He took care of the snake for me and now my wife & I can rest peacefully at night! He’s very nice, very reasonable on price, and got the job done correctly. I would HIGHLY recommend him for any type of wildlife/rodent removal!

Very professional. Came back numerous times to check the traps {at least 5 times} and eliminated all the areas where the critter came in at. Very reasonable was the cost to remove the critter.

Katy and Kevin are the absolute best! No matter how much I freaked out about the rats in my attic, no matter how many times I called and emailed, and no matter how many trips they had to make because I was too scared to look at the traps, they NEVER complained, acted annoyed or were anything other than professional and kind. I have worked with another wildlife eviction company and they offered nowhere near this level of service. They are the best!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do pest control companies do?

Pest control companies handle all aspects of bug, rodent and animal extermination or removal. Pest control professionals visit your home or office to identify the type of pest that is troubling you and offer various treatment plans — complete with clearly outlined costs. Once you and the pest control company have a signed agreement, the pro will begin treatment. Pest treatment can range from the use of spray pesticides and gel bait to live and/or kill traps. There are a wide range of types of pesticides, many of them nontoxic for humans and other small animals. This means you may be able to have your home treated for pests without harming nearby wildlife or your dog and cat. The pest control pro will carry out the treatment plan and, depending on the service agreement, provide follow-up such as emptying traps, inspecting access points, or reapplying pesticide spray if the pests return. Costs will vary based on the type of pest you are having removed and the extent of the infestation. The average national pest control price range is $80-$130. From a minor bedbug event to an entire home termite infestation, pest control companies have got you covered.

How much does it cost to remove a mouse?

If you have a mouse in your house you’re probably quickly researching pest control costs. Mice, although tiny, can transmit diseases and also get into your food and leave unsanitary droppings around your home. If you have seen one mouse in your house, it’s likely that more have taken up residence in your crawl space, attic or basement. The national average pest control cost is $150-$200. Costs can vary depending on whether you need to get rid of a population of living mice or just dispose of a dead mouse (or full traps), how extensive the mouse population is, and where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pest control cost for removing a mouse:

  • $150 for initial trap setup and inspection (and sealing of entry holes).
    • $50 for rodent removal service calls and emptying of traps. This visit can also include identifying and sealing entry points that were not sealed on the first visit.
  • Rodent extermination: $110-$350, depending on how heavy the rodent population is, whether the mouse infestation poses health risks, how many entrances exist and how many rodent bait stations are needed.

How much does it cost for a pest control service?

Whether you need to get rid of bugs or rodents, pest removal professionals can be lifesaving when you have an infestation. Pest control prices will vary based on what type of pest is being removed. The national pest control price range is $80-$130, although prices can be much higher for tasks like wildlife removal (raccoons, bobcats, etc.), which might start at $250 and exceed $500, depending on the animal and the trapping measures required.

The cost of eliminating a termite colony ranges on average from $240 to $400, but these costs can increase greatly if the whole house is infested. The average cost to kill cockroaches is between $80 and $130, while bedbug extermination ranges from $320 to $400 on average. The main factors that will affect your pest control price are the type of pest, the extent of the infestation, the accessibility of the infested areas, and the type of treatment required.

How much does it cost to get rid of cockroaches?

Cockroaches are not only ugly, they are difficult to get rid of. Quick and resilient, they can be hard to get rid of without professional help once they have inhabited a house. Nationally, the average range for cockroach pest control cost is $80-$130. Extermination professionals typically provide a free estimate to determine the extent of the infestation. They’ll check for the main sources of the bugs, identify bug access and entry points into your home, and determine the best method for elimination. There are a variety of cockroach extermination tools including gel baits and traps, pesticide foggers, desiccants (which dry out the cockroaches), neurotoxins, and other pesticides. Pest control costs can also cover preventive measures like regular spraying and trap maintenance. Some regions of the country are much more prone to cockroach problems than others, so pest control costs may need to be part of your quarterly budget. Cockroaches love dark, humid, and warm areas and water sources, so place traps near your washer and dryer and under your sinks.

How much does it cost to treat a house for termites?

Termites are not only creepy-crawly, they can literally eat your house out from underneath you. Termites feed on damp and dry wood and can chomp through your house at an alarming rate. The national average pest control cost for termite extermination is $240-$400. Treatment costs can be higher for an extensive infestation. Here are some examples of average pest control costs for termites:

  • Liquid treatment of subterranean termites: $3-$4 per linear foot.
    • For $75 per year, a company may offer a maintenance plan that provides inspection of the property and renewal of the warranty.
  • Liquid treatment of subterranean termites: approximately $400 for a 2,000-square-foot home at $3-$5 per linear foot.
    • The price is higher for additional work such as foaming and drilling inside of concrete slabs.
  • Fumigation treatment of drywood termites: $1,200-$1,500 for a 30,000- to 35,000-cubic-foot home
    • Fumigation is measured in cubic feet because it fills the airspace of the home and infiltrates the wood that the termites may be colonizing. The cost of fumigation is affected by the number of levels in the home as well as the square footage.
