My dog is my best friend, my fur child & a beloved family member. That’s why it can be stressful and nerve wracking if I have to leave my dog in the care of someone else. If you’re anything like me, then I’m here to ease that stress and put all your worries to rest. I promise to always go above and beyond to make sure your dog is safe, secure, comfy, and loved. I’ll be sure that your dog gets the attention, care, exercise, and fun that he/she needs & deserves. Whether your pup loves going on walks around the neighborhood, trips to the park, running around in the backyard, or playing a game of tug-of-war, I’ll always be sure to accommodate their needs. Mental stimulation is extremely important for our fur babies overall health, well-being, and mindset, so my interaction(s) with them will never be dull! I've always been fascinated by dog behavior, so I do lots of reading and research (along with my Vet Tech degree work). I never stop learning new ways to train, interact and care for my dog. Every dog is particular when it comes to what they enjoy most during their exercise time & where they feel most Some are more comfortable walking, playing with toys inside, throwing the frisbee, or just running around in the backyard. On the other hand, some dogs prefer going for a short stroll around the cul-da-sac or just getting a potty break & some fresh air. No matter what your dog may prefer, we’ll definitely have a blast together! As I mentioned above, I don't mind driving to the park (with your consent), walking certain trails/paths you may take your dog on, and such. We will have an awesome time either way, I can guarantee you that! My Background & Experience: I’m currently in school pursuing my Veterinary Technician Assistant degree, along with my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. I’ve always known caring for people and pets (especially dogs) has been a passion of mine. It’s part of who I am, always has been, and always will. I have over 8 years of experience caring for dogs, as well as cats. Over the past couple of years I’ve gained experience dog walking, drop-in visits, and dog sitting (stayed overnight @ the owners home or checked in various times throughout the day - depending on owner's request). I also use to work at Patty’s Fur-Topia (a dog boarding/grooming and doggy daycare). I walked dogs, bathed/groomed dogs, helped out as a kennel assistant and of course played with the pups! I also previously worked with another dog sitting agency and have also been a sitter for close friends and family members over the years. I hope for the opportunity to give you and your fur baby the best experience while in my care.See more

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

  • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
  • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
  • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
  • What are your different walk routes?
  • When will you pick up and drop off?
  • How will we communicate?
  • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
  • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
  • How and how often do I pay you?
  • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.

Tara has been walking our dog for almost two months now and has done an amazing job. She is very responsive and flexible. Every day we get a note telling us how the walk went and sometimes she will text a photo too! I know our pup is in good hands and I don't have to rush home from work to take him out. I definitely recommend her!

Tara has been walking pir beagle mix Phoebe since October and everything has been great! My husband and I work long hours, and we didn’t want to leave Phoebe at home alone all day. Tara walks her for about 30 minutes in the afternoons, Monday - Friday. Tara leaves a little note after each walk letting me know whether Phoebe did her business on the walk and anything else I should know. Phoebe also loves when Tara brings her a little gift like homemade peanut butter treats or holiday cookies (once we told her it was ok, of course!) We love knowing that Phoebe is well taken care of, and she loves her daily walks. Tara will also has also been super helpful when we travel. She will pick up Phoebe from our place and Phoebe will spend a few days at Tara’s. Tara will even drop her off at home again once we’ve returned. As much as I hate leaving her behind, I know she is having a fun little break at Tara’s house. I highly recommend Tara for anyone looking for a dog walker!

Tara has been walking Harvie my beloved cocker spaniel several times a week since I got him in June of 2017. She is incredibly efficient, friendly and caring. She sends me photos each visit which is really awesome and make a huge difference in my day. She leaves notes every visit explaining how it was. She also will bring treats to Harvie from time to time, and makes any accommodations I request. She also really helped us out when we had a family emergency- she came and got Harvie from our condo and took him home for the weekend, and treated him like her own dog. She sent me photos and brought me peace of mind in a time of distress, and I will always be grateful for that. I feel very lucky to have found Tara!
