Abed was a pleasure to work with. Unlike huge companies that charge high prices he was fair with his prices and did a great job installing dusk to dawn lighting outside our shed and installed led lighting in the shed ( that he provided for purchase at a reasonable cost) and then installed two other outdoor motion activated security lighting in our yard. This is the first time I've ever given a 1 star rating; however, the level of my disappointment in hiring him for the job, is an understatement. Upon creating the job listed on Thumbtack, I defined the needs of the job (recessed lighting and ceiling fans with a wired wall control) and provided pictures and he gave me a price. Upon arriving at the job, he stated that it wasn't what he thought it would be, and increased the price of labor and added on materials fee because he needed to go buy more materials. I was understanding of this. Without the job being complete the first time, he asked if I could compensate him with half payment, $100, and then full payment. I declined all three. I explained to him that I did not feel comfortable paying all the amount when he was not finished with the job and that I would rather make 1 transaction instead of multiple random payments. He returned, and was trying to figure out how to get the ceiling fans to work. Upon him saying he completed the job, I went to inspect. One of the bases of the ceiling fan is not properly secured and the fan makes loud noises (because it is not properly secured) and the fans do not work on different speeds nor do they work properly with the wired remote. When he could clearly see this, and me pointing it out, I informed him that I wanted it to work before paying him. He made the comment, "they work, they just don't work to how you want them to work." Sir, if they came with wired control, they should work with the wired control. And the fans should switch speeds, which they don't. I expressed to him that it's not about "how I want them to work" I want them to work how they're SUPPOSED to work. The interaction became intense as he began to disrespectfully mock and ridicule me by saying that I could go up in the ceiling and look at the wiring for myself, that it was nothing else he could do and proceeded to ask me what did I want him to do? My answer was simple, I'm not the electrician, this is what I'm paying you for, and I want you to do what you were hired to do and fix it correctly. As I touched the switch, it sent an electrical current wave to my hand and once he saw my instinctual reaction of jumping, he unscrewed the switch (with an attitude, the same attitude he's had the entire time) and then accused me of faking the shock reaction and stated that "It seems like I don't want to pay him " I told him I had no problem paying him but I wanted it done correctly and that was not what he was intending to do. I simply wanted to pay him after he correctly completed the job like any normal paying customer would. The conversation proceeded to be intense. He then got in his car and sat there. I asked him was he not going to even screw the power box to the wall control back in (it was left just hanging out) or remove the trash that he said he would remove. Giving his disrespect and lack of professionalism of even completing the job correctly, I was ready for him to leave! I asked him to show me the receipt (after going up on the price again for "materials ") and of course, he could not show proof of receipt. Given his attitude and disrespect, I went ahead and paid him his full price, including the "missing receipt" amount of an additional $150, and told him to leave. Now I'm stuck with having to hire a real electrician to come out to correct these problems.
