Introduction: Taking into consideration your short- and long-term goals, current abilities, previous experience, and even budget, together we will figure out the best plan for you. I do this by providing assessments the first time we meet. This initial session also gives you the opportunity to make sure that we are a match. No two people and no two voices are exactly the same, so I tailor my teaching around you, the student.
I provide a safe, comfortable, and fun environment where students can work on the music they enjoy most, including their original songs.
I work with any-level student, from ages 10 to 100.
My intention is for my students to understand how their voices work and play them to the best of their abilities. They should enjoy every note they sing and let their spirits soar.

Melissa Ellen is AMAZING! She is one of the best vocal coaches in the world and I absolutely believe that. I have had over a dozen vocal coaches in my life and Melissa has something those other coaches don't have. She gets it and she knows exactly how to explain it to me so that I get it too. No matter the problem, she ALWAYS gets me through it. I would recommend her to anyone who wants to learn how to sing or who already knows how and just needs some fine tuning and direction. She is not only amazing as a vocal coach but she is an amazing person as well and has all of her student's best interests at heart. I've been her student for over a decade and look forward to the next decade and what's to come. I can't say enough great things about Melissa. Just try one lesson and you'll see exactly what I mean. :)

First off, Melissa is professional in all regards. She is punctual, yet flexible with her time and very generous if a few extra minutes are required to make a point. Her knowledge level of music and voice is exceptional.
Living in Canada makes it impossible to meet with Melissa face to face so we use Skype. I was initially skeptical but it works great. I simply email an MP3 that Melissa critiques before hand and then we go from there at our scheduled time.
As a songwriter, singing songs that have never been sung before is a challenge for me because there is no "voice" to emulate. Melissa not only takes your voice under the microscope but also the lyrics, helping with all the tools like phrasing, breathing, emphasis on vowels and the list goes on. The end result is that the song and voice begin to sound so much better and I start to sing with more control and comfort.
Our next goal is to work on vocal dynamics and style and I am looking forward to that.
All in all, it's a pleasure to work with Melissa.

I love working with Melissa. She easily nails what I need to work on when I am preparing to record or perform material. She is very easy to work with and very accommodating. Melissa makes lessons fun and enjoyable!

Melissa has been a wonderful teacher. I came to her not only to learn to sing but to deal with what I believed to be emotional trauma related to my diaphram and breathing. I wanted to learn to sing and to heal. She helped see my challenges in a different light, she helped me to see that I have talent when I thought I had none, she helped me work through blockages that had prevented me from having new & different experiences. She helped me find the light within myself. Functionally, the lessons could not be easier - Skype & Youtube are all that I've needed, everything takes place online. I've made tremendous strides in only 4 lessons. I now have the confidence to sing backup in my band, something I've always wanted to do but simply didn't think I was capable of.
