Through the course of the day, there were two maids and two carpet cleaners. The first maid arrived on time, and the second maid stayed until job was thoroughly complete. The carpet cleaners were quick and efficient. The only (small) issue I had was that there was a 30-minute gap between when the first maid left and the second maid arrived. Overall, a very positive experience.

We hired Adam for three jobs: installing our carpet, laminate flooring, and painting. The painting is superb. Carpet looks wonderful, and our laminate flooring looks beautiful. We did come to a couple of snags with the flooring and such with the type we bought more being the culprit, but Adam made sure we were pleased with the job done and although the flooring pushed them passed the estimated time the project was to be done, it was because Adam wouldn't accept doing the job half way-and we appreciated that tremendously. It took them almost a week to do everything and we are not only satisfied with the results, but we would highly recommend him and his crew to whomever neededwork done in their home.

Phillip Quarles t/a Mr. Steam Carpet Cleaners made my day. He saved me thousands by rescuing badly stained carpets that others, including myself, had given up on. He was courteous, confirmed the appointment, and cheerfully drove from Edgefield to Aiken to perform his outstanding work, arriving promptly at the appointed time. The house had been occupied by careless tenants with from three to five dogs that were never, according to a neighbor, let outdoors. Phillip was able to remove 90% of the stains altogether and the remaining 10% were so improved as to become unnoticeable. He repaired rips and stretched the carpet back to the tacking strips in several places, tucking the edge in with a special tool. His cleaning equipment was state of the art and he proudly explained to me how and why it was superior to ordinary steam cleaners. I can't wait to tell my realtor about him so he can recommend Phillip to other clients.

I had a real mess from candle smoke when a candle caught fire in my home. The smoke settled mostly on my carpet upstairs as part of my house is open to the second floor. They worked very hard and did a great job of cleaning my carpet staying with their original quote even though I am sure it should have been more. This was important to me because I live on disability. I will be calling them back for my annual carpet cleaning from now on. Highly recommended!!!

Clinton Moore of Moore Services is a small business that provides a variety of services. Over the last year Moore services has provided me assistance with numerous home projects, large to small. Most recently Moore Services expanded to carpet cleaning and I did not hesitate to call them. Their new industrial cleaning machine works great and it leaves very little moisture residue. Clinton takes the time to make sure he is using the most appropriate cleaning and odor neutralizing product based on your situation, smoke, pets, etc. Moore Services can handle all your cleaning and home project needs. It's convenient to find a one stop shop that can do it all for a fair price!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How often should carpets be steam cleaned?

Dirty carpets can be unhealthy for the people living in the home, particularly those who have allergies, so it’s important to have them cleaned regularly; simply vacuuming once or twice a week isn’t enough. Carpet cleaning should be done by a professional carpet cleaning service at least once a year to remove grime and help extend the life of your carpet. Most carpet manufacturers recommend professional steam cleaning, which penetrates deep into the carpet fibers and lifts out both dirt and the pollutants that get tracked inside. Steam cleaning also removes most of the moisture, so carpets dry quickly enough for homeowners to resume using them the same day. Between professional carpet cleanings, your carpet may need an emergency spot cleaning. Pet accidents, food or drink spills, and more can often be effectively cleaned with some water and a drop of white vinegar, although many cleaners will also make house calls for smaller spills and hard-to-clean spots like wine or grease stains.

Who cleans area rugs?

Like your carpets, area rugs should ideally be cleaned at least once a year to remove dust and dirt and help them last longer. In general, carpet cleaning professionals also clean area rugs. Some rug cleaners bring their cleaning equipment to your home, while others remove your area rugs and clean them at their facilities. Either way, the rug should be cleaned with the solution most appropriate to its specific fabric and construction. It should also be completely dry before you return it to the floor.

How much does it cost to clean a rug?

Area rugs are typically found in high-traffic areas of the home, like hallways and entryways, so they collect more dirt and stains than simple vacuuming can handle. Similar to carpet cleaning, professionals can come to your home to deep-clean your area rugs. The national average cost for rug cleaning ranges from $80 to $120, but may be higher or lower depending on the rug’s size and fiber type. Rug cleaners generally charge by the square foot; for example, a standard 8-foot by 10-foot rug costs an average of $100 to clean. Natural fiber rugs, such as wool or silk, are usually more expensive to have cleaned than synthetic rugs. A carpeting cleaning company may charge on average $1.50 per square foot to clean a synthetic rug, $2 per square foot for a wool rug, and $3 per square foot for a silk rug. Some delicate rugs need to be washed by hand, which increases the price. Carpet cleaning companies often offer additional services, such as removing odors or applying moth deterrent, which can add 20 cents to 25 cents per square foot.

How do you find a good carpet cleaning company?

Regular professional carpet cleaning can both extend the life of your carpet and remove harmful pollutants from your home. Finding a good carpet cleaning company is an important aspect of home maintenance. When choosing a carpet cleaner, consider these top three questions:

  • What method of carpet cleaning do you prefer? Steam cleaning is an increasingly popular method because it’s thorough and safe, and dries quickly enough for you to return to your home the same day the carpets are cleaned.
  • Have you checked the company’s references? Most cities are home to several carpet cleaning companies, so it’s a good idea to check their reviews and references. Look for references from people in your neighborhood with homes similar to yours.
  • What’s included in the base price? What other services does the carpet cleaning company offer? Some companies will move furniture for you, while others charge a fee for it. Some include stairs in the cost of the home’s cleaning, while others charge per step.

What does carpet cleaning cost?

National average carpet cleaning prices range between $100 and $130. Carpet cleaning prices depend on how many square feet of carpet you want cleaned, how many rooms in one house or building will be cleaned, how stained your carpet is, how much the carpet cleaning company charges, your ZIP code, and the type of carpet you have. Cost per square foot can range from 20 cents to $1 or more, based on the above variables. Synthetic carpets are typically the least expensive to clean; natural fibers like wool cost more, as they require more care and attention, as well as more drying time. Excessive stains, challenging locations such as stairs, and accessibility also factor into your carpet cleaning price. Companies may charge a minimum service fee for cleaning a small carpet to cover their business expenses (paying employees, transporting the special equipment to your home). If your pet has repeatedly saturated the carpet with urine or if the fibers are extremely matted down, it may make more sense to completely replace your carpet than to continue to have it cleaned.
