A+++ We hired Gabrini Smith to complete a kitchen back splash installation using glass tile. We provided the tiles, grout and termination strip; he indicated early on that he had a preferred adhesive that he would be using. He verified that everything was appropriate for the finished job before beginning and offered some considerations to keep in mind. He even provided us with a 1 year guarantee on the installation. Gabrini was very professional in his communications and workmanship. He arrived promptly with all necessary tools. He cleaned up after himself before leaving. The installation is exactly what we wanted. The lines that he cut and the grout lines are even and clean. The grout is well distributed and meets all of our expectations. He used only the necessary tiles and created minimal waste. His performance was everything that could have been wanted for the task. We recommend him highly for any tile projects.

This is one of the best contractor that I have hired! Bobby and his crew did an awesome install of porcelain tile flooring in one of my bedrooms! They picked up the flooring and supplies which I had purchased in advance at Home Depot. They arrived to the house on time and got right to work. They were vere courteous and respectful taking the time to cover my wood floors with the carpet pieces they had removed from the bedroom so that they wouldn’t create a mess when walking thru my house. I was totally impressed with the work, workmanship, and professionalism of the crew. I will definitely refer to my friends. I plan to call this company for my next projects.

We have used Flooring Zone during our total home remodel over the past year. They have installed everything from travertine, porcelain, laminate and hardwood to custom glass tile in our showers and kitchen. During our renovation we had two high profile Contractors managing separate projects which included some of the tile work. Flooring Zone was called in on both projects to take over the tile work due to their level of skill and expertise. Their staff is dedicated, hard-working, professional and reliable. After comparing their pricing with competitor products and services, we found that Flooring Zone was the most fair and transparent. They arrived on time and stay with our projects through successful completion. Miles would even drop by my office to deliver samples for us to consider. Having recently hired so many Contractors, Flooring Zone was a refreshing experience. We are bringing them back in shortly to finish the last rooms of our renovation. When it comes to Miles and the Flooring Zone, we just keep calling them back because I know we will get a great outcome. I highly recommend calling Flooring Zone first or at least include them before making a flooring or tiling decision. You can reach Miles DuChanois, Installation Manager/Sales, Flooring Zone at C:678-768-6090, O:855-344-ZONE.

My rating is "VERY GOOD". Does this fall between good & outstanding? Old tub, toilet, vinyl surround, & ceramic tile surround were pulled out of my very small bathroom. They installed new plumbing, backerboard & the an air jet tub. Not realizing that they are more difficult, I chose small tiles. Gary did a great job installing the tile. Job was held up while we found condo bldg. water shut off. Some unexpected problems occurred, which is expected in any remodel job. I will rate some parts of this job as "good," as some faucet parts were lost & faucet had to go out & pick out & buy a new faucet. As far as what could have been done better - closer supervision of a worker with some personal problems, but the overall RESPONSE to the problems was EXCELLENT. Mr. Wilkins stayed in touch throughout the job. Gary worked very late to get all the tile in, grouted, & cleaned. The whole job took one week. I am very happy with the results.

Cristian and his team are extremely professional, timely, and do excellent work. He was very fair with his pricing and I would absolutely recommend him to anyone looking for his expertise. They had a difficult job as my home was built in 1958 and it required removal of 2 subfloors and 7 layers of vinyl, he replaced all of that with porcelain tile laid on a diagonal and I couldnt be more pleased with the outcome.

Dustin did a truly excellent job. He is very efficient, timely and detailed. He replaced our kitchen linoleum floor with ceramic tile we had picked out. He also replaced an old shower with new tile. The finished job is beautiful and clean. I would hire him again without question and highly recommend him.

Where do I start? I'll start by saying I originally hired another contractor on Thumbtack to install porcelain tile in our master bathroom and it was the worse experience I've had. I hired Leo to fix the mess the other contractor left and I will say I'm 100% satisfied. Leo did more in two days than the previous contractor did in a week. They first came in and laid out paper on my downstairs hardwood floors and stairs to avoid stains. Then they laid out plastic on my upstairs carpet and other furniture to avoid getting dust all over everything. True professionalism! The final product came out better than I expected. After completion of the job, they cleaned up all of the material and got rid of all of the excess waste. We were so pleased with the job, we asked for quotes on other projects that we want to get done. I will definitely be hiring Leo for all of my home improvement projects. And trust me, there are many!

Kendall is a true professional. He has replaced kitchen subflooring and replaced broken ceramic tiles, laid new plank flooring throughout my whole house, replaced toilets, built proper support under my screened porch, stained my deck, painted the exterior of my house, repaired plumbing leaks, and replaced light kits and electrical outlets. Every job he has done with excellence, making sure that everything was done properly. I trust him explicitly and would recommend him as a professional and as a person of integrity who is honest.

My wife and I are overall happy with the installation of tile in our kitchen. In our case he was one of four the we quoted he was the only one that mentioned installing them on a 45 degree offset and recommended where and what kind of tile to get. We bought the tile and grout he recommended and he supplied the underlayment and the labor. Tony showed up on time which is a big plus in my book. If I had to nit-pick I took a star off because as I looked I saw some areas where the tiles were uneven and spacing/gaps were off and not weren't consistent but you had to really look and most wouldn't notice unless pointed out. Trim that was cut in the middle of a wall were one piece would of been better looking and make better since. Again overall we are happy with the install Would I recommend him to others? Yes

We hired Thomas to install marble flooring in our two master bathrooms and porcelain tile in our laundry room. After first meeting Thomas for a quote, we knew he was going to be great. He was very knowledgeable, upfront, and honest about what some of the potential challenges would be and made us feel comfortable moving forward. We ran into some issues with our sub-floor and Thomas was able to succinctly explain the issue to us and our options forward. He really empowered us to make the right decision without pressuring us into any one option. In addition to the floors, Thomas also installed 4 new faucets and framed out our two mirrors. Everything looks FANTASTIC. We would hire him again in a heartbeat.

Mylla and her husband did AMAZING work on our new construction home. They did our marble 6'X4' shower and its the floors, our fire place in ceramic/marble, kitchen/mudroom ceramic and guest bath subway and ceramic. They are so meticulous and we plan on using them for our patio slate and porch slate. They are really just terrific, friendly and priced very reasonably.

Did a great job removing our old wood like floors and replaced them with porcelain tile. Since we only knew of the big box stores who sell floors, Andrew gave some names of some flooring warehouses and some buying tips. We did find a larger selection at the warehouses as opposed to the big box stores. We did get a good price for some fabulous porcelain flooring that was commercial grade and looks rich. He also helped me with a few wood kitchen cabinet issues we had. Overall, we are very pleased.

I hired Mr. Blount to install ceramic tile on the entire first floor of my townhouse. He has been very easy to work with from my initial contact with him to the completion of the install. Mr. Blount's estimate for the job was reasonable and his work was excellent. He adhered to his work schedule, with no inconvenience to me, and finished on time. As a result of such a positive first experience with Mr Blount, I have contracted him to complete other renovations in my home. I am sure he will do a great job on those projects as well.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

    • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
      • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
    • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
    • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

For more on how to remodel a bathroom and bathroom tiling check out The Complete Thumbtack Bathroom Remodel Guide.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
