Scott was prompt and courteous in responding to my quote request. He communicated in advance of the scheduled appointment. He arrived on time and did an outstanding job. He is thorough and detail-oriented. He cleaned my carpet as if it was his own. I will recommend him to everyone I know. And I will certainly be a repeat customer. He didn't try that adding an extra amount to the bill that other carpet cleaners did in the past. And there's no funky chemical smell. Thanks for making a humdrum task easy, Scott!!!

I hired Tamara for a move-out cleaning in my 3 floor 4/3.5 house. She was on time, friendly, and did a great job with some difficult spots such as the floor under the 18 year old washer/dryer! Her price was fair and it was a pleasure to do business with her. I recommend.

6000+ sq ft house cleaned by Nidgi & family from top to bottom. There was NOTHING left undone. We had our floors refinished so there was dust everywhere. They worked from 10am till 5pm and did not stop. I am nothing less than amazed at what a great job they did. They worked around movers and the floor refinisher who was still working. Nothing short of amazing!!

Dean is a real pro. He was very responsive throughout the process— sending text and email confirmations, reminders, etc. He also sends a message the day of the cleaning to let you know he is en route. It’s those little things that make a huge difference to me and cut my stress, especially as I am moving into a new home and have to deal with many different contractors. On the day, Dean was friendly, professional and efficient. The carpets and tile look great. We will absolutely have Dean back to clean our floors. Highly recommend.

SourceOne did a great job on our Travertine floors and marble countertops. We totally gutted our master bathroom shower and retiled with marble. Rather than replacing the floor and countertops with new, we opted to restore them. So glad we did. Now the bathroom ALL looks new. SourceOne is very conscientious/meticulous to details and pleasant. The floors actually look better now than when they were first installed 10 years ago! Also, the cost to do the job was far less than replacing tile and counters. Source One's prices are good too.

Tania did a great job. She arrived on time & was thorough in her cleaning, taking time to get into the nooks & crannies. She was also very pleasant & committed to making sure we were pleased with her work, even following up a few days later wanting to try to improve the shine on our worn hardwood floors! I would use her again & definitely recommend her services.

Workers were pleasant and a quick glance looked ok, however many things were not cleaned up to expectations. Black rings under rims of both toilets, edges of splash guards in bathrooms not wiped down. Bathroom floor edges still dirty. Wood floors still dirty and edges near wall around area rugs not mopped. Bedroom surfaces poorly dusted or not at all. Sorry I didn't do a closer inspection before they left. Work quality - fair, Value - over priced - Thumptack has incorrect pricing they said, Punctuality - arrived late. I kept thinking their office would call to see if I was satisfied and wished to reschedule. I never heard from anyone.

We hired YaYa to clean an older home that had recently been sold and was in dire need of a professional clean! We could not have been happier with the results! YaYa and her team of professionals worked diligently for five hours cleaning floors, windows, the oven, bathrooms, etc to prepare the house for its new owners. When they finished, YaYa walked the space with me to ensure I was happy with the results. She was quick to reply to my communication request and even arrived early to begin work! Additionally, the ladies on her team were very pleasant. I highly recommend T&L and would hire them again without hesitation.

This team was awesome!!! The best thing I loved was Sabrina and her team being so flexible with my schedule. I tried to hire a few other cleaners and no one was willing to work with my odd schedule. Sabrina had no problem coming in the evening and very soon as requested! And might I add they did a phenomenal job with my home. Top to bottom spotless!! And they worked with my budget, too, which is a HUGE pro!! I will definitely be hiring them again more frequently! So excited that I found a reliable company who does great work!!!

Rare Perfection Cleaning is outstanding! Even though I made a last-minute, same-day request, Tiffany and her colleague arrived on-time and did a thorough, professional job. And, having hired other cleaners in the past, Rare Perfection is the best value! Highly recommend them!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

  • Old standard or electric toothbrush
  • Stiff bristle brush
  • Spray bottle
  • White vinegar
  • Commercial grout cleaner

How do professionals clean tile and grout?

If you need tile and grout cleaning and don’t have the time or mobility for scrubbing your entire house on your hands and knees, it’s time to turn to the pros. Tile and grout cleaning professionals have industrial-grade machines designed for the sole task of cleaning the porous materials of grout and tile. Typically, a cleaning pro will come out to assess the job and provide you with a quote. Often they charge per square foot (for example, 75 cents per square foot), with higher prices or an hourly rate for areas that will need hand cleaning. The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Once onsite, the pros thoroughly clean the area by wiping or sweeping down and then vacuuming up any dry dirt. Next a chemical tile cleaner is sprayed over the surface, causing dirt to loosen and adhere to the spray; the industry term for this is “suspension.” The pros then clean the floor with professional-strength machines, which often use a combination of steam, brushes and vacuum to loosen, agitate and lift entrenched dirt. Your floor is then rinsed, removing all the spray. Usually a small room can be cleaned in under an hour. Applying a sealant afterward is recommend and will also affect cost.

How much does it cost to clean tile and grout?

The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Pros may charge a flat fee or by the square foot. Rates can vary depending on the type of tile and grout you have (more delicate tiles may mean specialized products or careful handwashing), how dirty your tile and grout are, and what part of the country you are in (regional labor rates and costs to do business affect costs). For example, one floor cleaning company charges 75 cents per square foot for tile and grout cleaning for projects that permit cleaning by machine. Another company may charge $30-$50 per hour for hand-cleaning of tiles. Companies often charge a minimum fee for services to ensure their business expenses are met when they accept a job, no matter how small. In addition, a tile and flooring cleaning professional may charge added fees, such as $25 or more, to move heavy furniture or appliances.
