Extremely professional and knowledgeable. He gave me more than one option to repair my roof and siding, based on my budget. I'll be honest, I am on a budget so I chose the cheaper option. However, I have to admit the finished project looked as though I chose the most expensive option. After seeing his completed work I have decided to hire him for other home repairs. Overall, I have to give him the highest rating and suggest others take advantage of his honest quality service.

Hugo, from HG Roofing Services, is very competent & has years of industry experience. When a small portion of the roof above our back porch caved in I was anxious about how extensive the damage would be & how much it was going to cost to repair it. (Intentionally, I did not wish to contract with a large roofing contractor. I am of the opinion they have so much work that they dispense with projects quickly & it’s a training ground for those learning the trade). Hugo has a small team of workers. He explained our home builder had not used flashing on the side of the roof as it slopes upward under an overhang. Yes we encountered water damage in the eaves of the attic & above the porch celing. Much to my dismay, I learned our 14-year old roof has maybe another 3 years of life left in it. We’re not talking an inexpensive home. What is it about builder-quality workmanship (or lack of it)? I digress. Suffice it to say I was very impressed with the workmanship of HG Roofing Services & happy with the price. We’re talking trade knowledge bred from years in the business & true craftsmanship. I will be calling Hugo back in about 3 years to replace the roof😩! In the meantime, I’m hoping for a major hail & wind storm directly over my home (if you catch my drift)! You will not be disappointed in HG Roofing Services.

As an engineer we have a saying that goes "good, fast, cheap; pick two). We got pushed back a little further than originally anticipating but as I worked in construction and weather it was understandable. They were BY FAR the lowest price on architectural shingles and lower with this price than all but one or two who quoted 3-tab shingles. I didn't see any nails on the ground after the job and Ray told us we could load any trash besides paint and something else before the trash company picked up the container a couple days later. They pay per pound as that's the only way I've ever found plus haul and deliver and maybe number of days. Ray was easy to work with and I know we had some plywood sheets replaced. Cover your stuff in the attic as there was a mess up there which I should of anticipated as he said he replaced several sheets. There were nail penetrations in the attic roof (quite a few) which I could bend sideways with a hammer. I'm not stating that last part to complain but more so as a courtesy to the business for future clients. We feel we got much more than we paid for which is VERY rare when dealing with contractors. If you want super pretty attic ceailing it will cost you and the competitors who bid a lot more didn't guarantee it to us except one who did use a better pad but was also a grand and a half less than TWICE what The Art of Home Improvement charged. I would recommend to my family members and friends in a second (unless they want a metal roof which I don't know if they do or not.)

I've contacted a few contractors to address a roof leak around our chimney. One of them mentioned that my roof could be still under warranty since we had it redone 9 years ago. As another expert, Eric not only pointed that out as well but also took some good 15 mins of his busy schedule to give me a very detailed strategy to use when I face the original installer. To me it was totally positively shocking! If Eric treats a customer that he isn't having any business with such a compassion, I can only imagine how thorough and diligent his work would be with an engaged customer. Eventually, being very prepared (thanks to Eric) I was able to get the original installer to approve the warranty work and make all needed repairs. My gratitude goes to Eric for the exceptional values conducting his business.

Jordan and his team did an amazing job, especially with the condition our new home came in. We purchased our first fixer upper home. We knew our roof was in horrible shape when we bought it. We contacted 20 roofing companies and Jordan was the fastest and most accommodating to our needs and timeframe. Jordan provided diagrams of our roof before providing quotes. He explained the process clearly and was quick to respond by text. Then, he and his team were able to get the needed materials and complete the job in ONE day. Jordan was up at 7:00AM and waited for many hours to make sure all was properly set up for the project. We had a completely rotten roof with many hornet nests dug in there. After Jordan and his team finished the work, we inspected the roof and we are thrilled with it!! I highly recommend Jordan and his team again. Thank you so very much!!

Sam Rutherford is an experienced professional contractor He demonstrates concern for the customer by providing quality product and installation while listening to the needs of the customer. He clearly explained all aspects of the project before it began. In trying to find the correct color shingles Sam even brought sample bundles and placed them on the roof. The roofing project was completed on time and there were no unsuspected extra costs. I would highly recommend selecting SGR Contracting for your next project

After going through the process of reading reviews and getting quotes from roofers and trying to decide who to trust because I wasn't sure if I'd get good quality materials if I got a low price, and would I be paying too much if I went with the higher price. When I met Brian from Jenkins Construction he explained everything in detail about the types of materials I would be getting for the price, and he was able to help me work out the financing with no problem and recommended a very reliable tree service to remove trees away from the roof. All in all the roofing experience and the tree removal was made possible by Brian and his company and his recommendations. Some say awesome, I say spectacular!!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
