He did a great job and was available same day! He was very friendly and professional, will definitely hire him again. My only negative is that I feel like $100 was a little too high but he offered to do my backyard for $80 which is double the size of my front.

Very reasonable price, showed up when he said he would, and offered to come back the next day to finish the work after he got rained out on the first day. Even mowed our front lawn as well, which I was certainly not expecting but more than happy to see. Our backyard hasn’t looked this good since we moved in over a year ago. Very nice to work with, and would definitely hire again.

After a bit of bad luck with people that we “knew”, my husband and I began calling landscape companies from the internet. We met with about 5, and as soon as we met with Austin, we felt we would be in great hands. (So, let our experience save you the trouble, and go straight to Overstreet Lawn Care.) Austin and his crew gave us a beautiful new backyard. He was very upfront about some not so fun digging that needed to be done, and we are very happy with that outcome. Had great ideas and insight along the way. And the crew was professional and hard working. We feel in great hands with Overstreet Lawn Care’s knowledge and expertise......so much so that we hired them for lawn maintenance, and that crew is also awesome. We also have plans to work with Overstreet Lawn Care for installation work in our front yard this Spring.

We hired Omar for a complete clean up and mulch of our backyard and could not be happier with our experience. He offered fair pricing compared to other competitors and completed the job very quickly. The yard looks 100x better than it did before he came. I would recommend him to anyone looking for someone to help with their yard. Bonus - He also offers maintenance, which is well worth considering.

All I can say is WOW. Marcos and his team did an excellent job! We were in desperate need of some help with our backyard. The grass had died in most areas and we had a big party that we were hosting three weeks from when Marcos showed up to provide an estimate. After a short consultation, Marcos provided us with a quote on the spot to lay around 3500+ sq ft of sod, mulch around the plants, and pebble rocks to fill our walkway (after digging it out). Not only did he provide us with the best price, but he also committed to starting the job within the next five days even though he had a busy schedule. Marcos showed up for the job on time, did everything that he said he was going to do and stayed true to the original quote. He really went above and beyond what we expected. He was even able to remove some of the small stumps that we had in our yard which had been an eyesore for quite some time. We laid fescue sod in the backyard in the middle of May (at our request) and I was quite nervous that it would be too hot for it to root. But we are now a month from the day that the job was completed and the grass is growing incredibly well. I think the pictures say it all. You will not regret hiring Marcos and his team!

We just purchased a home and needed a lot of overgrown bushes and trees removed (some 25 foot pines), including a whole backyard of leaves. We had DP remove multiple trees in our backyard, clean up the leaves and remove mature bushes along the front walkway. From beginning to end, the experience was exceptional. They arrived on time to review the work and provide a very competitive estimate. Scheduled the removal on the date that worked best for everyone. Arrived on time with a large crew to complete the job. The crew removed the fence to easily access the backyard and take care of the tree and leaves removals. They grinded the stumps into the ground and hauled everything away. With pick ax, removed old boxwoods and holly bushes from the narrow walkway. It now looks amazing !! I have a whole new backyard, with fantastic natural light. And all the overgrown stuff gone. I highly recommend D.P. and I will definitely use them again. A+ experience.

RH services did an awesome job with my backyard. He was quick to respond and he came over right away to do a quote. The quote was quick and easy. When he did the job he showed up right when he was supposed to and got right to work. He went above and beyond on my backyard. I asked him to weed around the edges and make it look presentable. He not only did the weeding perfectly but he shaped up all of my bushes as well. He completed the job quickly and efficiently and did it for the price he quoted me. I was very impressed. It looks great! I would definitely use this company in the future.

I hired Marco Bolanos to do some landscaping work at my daughter's home in Glenwood Park. The reason I hired him was because his bid for the job was approximately one-third the amount of the bid I got from another landscaper and because he seemed very knowledgeable and honest. Also because he could do the job as soon as we wanted it done. My initial impression of him proved correct: he is honest, ethical, and does excellent work, even though he charges much less than other professional landscapers Also, whereas the other landscaper who gave us a bid wanted us to pay him 50% up front, Marco did not want to be paid until the job was completed and we were satisfied with it. He showed up on time on the day he indicated he'd be there, and he and his crew worked hard and finished up the job in one and a half days. What they did was the following: clean up an old garden bed bordering the front of the house and plant new shrubs in it; clean up the backyard, which was filled with overgrown weeds, unwanted shrubs, a little fishpond surrounded by brickwork (my daughter wanted this taken out because she wants her baby to be able to play in the backyard when he becomes a toddler and a pond would be dangerous), transplant some viable shrubs to better locations in the backyard, and seed and mulch the whole yard. My daughter was very pleased with his work. When I went down to Atlanta (I live in Athens) a couple of days later to see the results, I too was very pleased except for one thing that Marco apparently hadn't understood that we wanted him to do, which was to transplant some liriope plants from the backyard to the front border garden, to fill in some gaps in the liriope border along that garden. I texted Marco about this, and even though he had already been paid, he came back the next day to take care of this. Many landscapers would not have done this once they'd been paid for a job. So, all in all, we were very pleased with Marco's work and my daughter and her husband plan to hire him again in the spring to re-sod their front yard. They plan to recommend him to any friends who need landscaping work done in the future.

Had a great experience working with Dan and his brother Umberto. I had been planning and analyzing a backyard project for years (not kidding) and happy to have found Dan to complete the biggest parts of the job (grading/sod). I am someone that is very particular on who I hire. Dan's honesty and personality had me feeling confident which is part of the reason I had chose him for the job. Working with Umberto on the day of the install was equally impressive. He worked all day and was easy to talk to. None of my questions or ideas were too much. Posting some time-lapse video here of our renovation. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1rzqdnoVAHce8eh6yxqLL3YGSIDNYJrv If any questions, I am happy to confidently share more about my experience with Dan's Landscaping Sevices. Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

How much does it cost to have your lawn mowed?

Regular lawn maintenance can do wonders for your home’s curb appeal. Professional lawn care prices will vary based on the regional cost to do business and regional cost of labor, the size of your lawn, and any additional services you may desire such as edging or mulching. The national average for lawn mowing costs is $30-$50. Pros may charge an hourly rate, a flat rate or by the square foot (an acre contains 43,560 square feet). Square footage rates factor in the professional’s time, the use of their equipment, and the gas to operate the mower. Distance may also affect cost: If you live outside the company’s standard service range, you may pay an additional travel fee. Here are some examples of average prices for mowing and lawn maintenance:

  • Up to 8,000-square-foot property: $30 per week/$120 per month.
    • Bimonthly: $40 per service/$80 per month.
    • One time only: $45 per service.
      • Prices include mowing all turf grass areas; trimming grass away from fences, structures, trees, and lawn edges; and clearing or blowing all grass trimmings from driveways, sidewalks, curbs, etc.
  • Hourly rate: $25 per hour (including travel, equipment costs and labor).
  • Lot size:
    • Smaller lots in subdivisions: $35.
    • Half-acre lot: $50.
    • One-acre lot: $100.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
