Marissa is fantastic to work with! I started my job search at a difficult time and felt I wasn’t getting the responses from companies because of a lack luster resume. Right off the bat Marissa had suggestions on how to improve my resume. She was clear and concise about her services and delivered above and beyond my expectations. I have never been more proud of a resume and I owe it all to Marissa at Professional Development Writing. I am happy to report I landed a new job and I truly believe working with Marissa got me there! Since my new hire I’ve continued to work with Marissa on my LinkedIn profile. No surprise that I now have an amazing LinkedIn profile and continue to make new connections daily. I can’t say enough good things about Marissa and Professional Development Writing. I highly recommend her services and will continue to work with her for years to come.Nov 2, 2020
Marissa made it so easy for me to put the final polish on my CV. It is the best version since working on my resume personally for the last 10 years. I highly recommend her for her Professionalism, responsiveness and how she values her clients time.Oct 17, 2020
It was wonderful working with Marissa. The high quality resume she created for me made an impact with hiring managers, including the one that offered me my job. She is one of the most articulate people I have ever met and that particular skill of hers is what makes her so valuable to her clients. She is pleasant to talk to, super smart, and delivers on time.Oct 6, 2020
I had a basic resume I created from a template and Marissa helped me to create a more polished resume basically from scratch. She did a great job translating my skills and duties in all of the jobs I've had into detailed descriptions of the work I am capable of and the positive results achieved by my work. For that reason, I feel more than confident sending my resume to prospective employers, or even showing someone a copy to show off how professional it makes me sound. She had me explain the duties of each of my past roles and then created short but powerful bullet points that described the ways in which my work helped my company/department/etc. I can see why it's important to choose the right words when creating a resume, and since I have this awesome resume in my back pocket, I feel like I can really own my diverse job background because my resume makes me sound well-rounded and experienced. She also helped me write an excellent cover letter, which I use as a template and just switch the details and some of the language for continuous use. It's really handy having both of these things up to standard since you never know when you might need them.Feb 16, 2019
Marissa did such a wonderful job of putting words to my work experience. While my work is very eclectic, Marissa the wordsmith threaded my jobs in way that was cohesive, relevant and necessary in today's job market . By the time she sent me my updated resume, I felt confident that what prospective Hiring Managers would read was really me. She kept my resume authentic and in the highest of integrity, which was the most important request I gave her. I highly recommend Marissa to write or rewrite your resume. Best money I've spent in a long time.Feb 11, 2019
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?I know things can come up and there could be a quick turnaround request for 1-2 days and I will always do my best to help out with those special requests when I can. Please consider that there could be rush fees added to the base in these instances. These fees will typically be a flat $30-$60, depending on your needs. Otherwise, I can usually stick to my base rates.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? The process is very collaborative. If you hire me and we end up working together, please prepare to have an initial phone call where I can get to know why you are in need of a resume. Are you planning to change industries and need to cater your resume toward a different field? Has your company been recently acquired or merged with a corporation and you want your resume updated in the event you may find yourself on the job market? Do you need a resume written from complete scratch because you just graduated college, or because you've been in the same role since starting your career and never needed a formal resume before? These are the things we will talk about before I start working on your resume so I have a clear impression of where you came from, professionally speaking, and where you are heading. After the initial phone call, I will start on creating a draft from scratch, either using information you've shared with me from a previous resume, or creating all new content, (in the case that you don't have an existent resume.) In the latter scenario, our initial phone call will either be a bit longer, or will be followed up with a second call to discuss the past roles you've worked in and/or education you've received while I take notes to synthesize the information into resume format. While I'm writing the resume for you, I prefer for open communication lines, either via text, email or phone call, so I can ask any questions that come up during the creative process. I respect work schedules and time preferences and do my best to completely cater to your scheduling needs at all times. The process for writing a resume and cover letter will usually take one week, but I can make exceptions and work on a rush if you need it sooner.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have a Bachelor's degree from The University of Colorado at Boulder. I graduated with a Political Science degree, and; therefore, had to write my fair share of persuasive papers to satisfy course requirements. I still remember many of the topics I chose to write about, (even though it's been over a decade since graduating!) One of my favorite papers I wrote was in my senior seminar class for a Professor Emily Chenoweth, who I completely admired. I can tell you the topic I chose if you're interested... Another fond memory I have is writing in elementary school and having my story selected to read out loud in a school function...what a rush!
