Ken was excellent in communicating with me the specifics of the job. I had a small job to be done with having some drawer glides and runners repaired. This company was the only one that came to the rescue. Although I have other jobs in the near future for them, this feat was important to me because the drawer is a keepsake and they would not stay in. I initially met Mike who did some patchwork for me, but when Mike saw that the drawers could not be fixed and that I would need someone in woodworking, he imediately. thought of Ken and his liking to woodwork. Mike took the drawers with him and took pics of them. I was told that in Kens spare time he would have to get to them and I was okay with that as long as I got them fixed. Well, Mike left and came back the same day with my drawers after an hour drive leaving my home. Ken so graciously and efficiently repaired my drawers the same day and returned them back the same day!!! I was very impressed and happy! And I thank you sooooooo...much Ken for doing that for me! I will definitely be using you all in the few months to come after I move into my new home!! Mike was very personable and friendly and what he was not sure about he relayed to Ken to get the answer. Prices are reasonable as well and Mike was timely and efficient. Thank you so much and see yah soon! :)

Wayne & Alisia were TOP NOTCH people from our initial inquiry to the completion of all the work. They were out here a couple days after we reached out to them for an estimate, starting the job on some woodworking we wanted to have done in our back yard. We paid exactly what we were quoted, and the job was completed when we were promised. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #BESTBANGFORYOURBUCK

Great job at a very fair price. B&C did a good job of communicating directly to schedule the job. They showed up on time and worked very meticulously to ensure we were happy with the hardwood installation. I plan to hire again to finish some other carpentry projects we need completed.

Adam and his assistant moved my three-bedroom home which included a lot of head heavy woodworking machinery. He carried all of the machine ring up a flight of stairs to its new location. He and his assistant or hard-working, cautious, good men. I would highly recommend him. Gave him a bonus which was well deserved.

Ray was one of several professionals who responded to my request for a bid to do some kitchen and bathroom tile work. I explained the job and my timeline over the phone and he responded by providing me with an estimate, which was very reasonable in comparison to other bids I received over the next few days. Ray arrived as scheduled and demonstrated a great work ethic and exacting professional standards. He kept me informed throughout the job and made valuable recommendations throughout the course of the project. I am delighted with the results. Ray is an experienced craftsman with an in-depth knowledge of the building trades, and a friendly, caring manner. His honesty, fairness and diligence coupled with the outstanding nature of his work, make him my go-to guy for any future projects without the benefit of taking any other bids.

Southern Burl did an excellent job from start to finish on the built in bookcase and window seat they built in my home. I gave Drew a picture of what I wanted and he was able to recreate it down to the last detail. Mark and Drew are very professional and I will definitely hire them for future carpentry projects.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who is a carpenter and what do they do?

Carpenters are skilled craftsmen who build things out of wood. Depending on what the carpenter builds, they may be referred to by various names. A framer is a carpenter who puts up the framing on a house. A trim or finish carpenter installs the finishing touches of prefabricated or custom trim and detail work once a house has been built and the walls are up. A furniture maker or woodworker builds furniture — such as tables, beds and dressers — out of wood. A cabinetmaker is a carpenter who builds custom and semi-custom wood cabinets. If you’re having a home built or remodeled, your general contractor will either provide or subcontract the carpentry work for the framing, cabinets and trim. You can hire a carpenter directly to update the trim in your home, build you a piece of custom furniture, or repair or replace your wood cabinets.

Do carpenters build houses?

Carpenters are trained to work with wood. That means that any part of your home that is built of wood is very likely to involve a carpenter. Framing carpenters will put up the wood that makes up the bones of your home. If you’re having a wood floor installed, it may be done by a carpenter — although being a carpenter is not a requirement to install flooring. Trim, baseboards, wainscoting and any other detail work is typically installed by a finish carpenter. The wood boxes of custom cabinets will be built and installed by a carpenter.

Although all of these components in your new or remodeled home are built by carpenters who specialize in building things with wood, a general contractor typically oversees construction of the entire house. If the general contractor is also a carpenter skilled in all these areas, they may well construct your entire home. More often, the general contractor subcontracts out the various building stages to different individuals, including carpenters.
