We had an extensive problem with German roaches. Lawrence suggested and then provided a three week plan that has mostly checked their population. It has been days since the last roach I saw. He was prompt and the price quoted was very competitive with other pest control agencies. Would recommend.

I contracted bed bugs from a cruise a few months back. I didn’t know that I even had them because I never saw them. Mr Eric was great. He was confident about his work. When I called he made me feel at ease about the situation and was out in less than 48 hours. Not only was he friendly but he was knowledgeable about my situation. He was VERY thorough and promised to follow up within 10 days. He cares about his customers and their satisfaction and not just about a paycheck. I have found my go-to pest control company. If I even have any pest control needs in the future, I will definitely call him.

I was at my wit's end with this pest issue and James literally brought back my sanity. He was able to eradicate the pests that had overtook my home. He knew exactly what to do to resolve the issue and was reasonably priced. I would advise you to try his services first before going to the big name pest control companies. He even does a follow-up that is included in the price. I have not seen a pest since his treatment. Finally, I can sleep well at night. Thanks, James!

This is a great company. Jeff Pursley is very knowledgeable about pest control. He did more than just a mosquito treatment, he pointed out some issues I had no idea I have. I wish he did that type of work as well, he is exceptional.

Very experienced, professional, and most importantly did a GREAT job! We’ve never had to call a nuisance/pest control but have heard there is a lot of unprofessionalism and price gauging, NOT the case here. We simply can’t say enough how happy we were with our service and will recommend them to all family, friends, and neighbors.

I hired PointSource Pest Control to take care of a hornet nest in a tree between my neighbor and I. Kendrick was super nice, experienced and educated me on not only hornet nests but other pests as well. It was truly a pleasure and I highly recommend him and his services. He even thanked me for caring enough to have the nest taken care of to protect the neighborhood.

Jaime was wonderful! He showed up right on time and quickly got rid of several hornets nests (big and small) outside of our home. His services were very reasonably priced in comparison to the larger corporate pest control companies. He even took the time to walk with us and listen to our various pest control concerns and offered helpful solutions. I highly recommend Jaime and will 100% be using his company again.

Dylan came to my home for an ant problem I was having. He arrived right on time and gave me a reasonable price (based on other quotes I had received) he was able to take care of the ant problem the same day. I signed up for quarterly pest control and mosquito. I would recommend Safeguard to anyone I know. Not only are my ants gone but my kids can finally enjoy playing in the yard.

Pete of Dyno Pest Services did a thorough inspection of my property and told me not to spend any money until I find out if my HOA provided termite coverage. Although no service was required at the time, I would hire him because of his honesty and integrity.

I only have great things to say about Pyramid. Ever since they have been treating my house I haven’t had any bug problems. In the past, I used a larger chain for my quarterly pest control and always had ants or roaches running around which drove me nuts. I called Pyramid one morning and they were at my house that afternoon. I signed up for their yearly service and am now officially "bug free”. What I really love is that I get better service and quality product in fewer visits.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do pest control companies do?

Pest control companies handle all aspects of bug, rodent and animal extermination or removal. Pest control professionals visit your home or office to identify the type of pest that is troubling you and offer various treatment plans — complete with clearly outlined costs. Once you and the pest control company have a signed agreement, the pro will begin treatment. Pest treatment can range from the use of spray pesticides and gel bait to live and/or kill traps. There are a wide range of types of pesticides, many of them nontoxic for humans and other small animals. This means you may be able to have your home treated for pests without harming nearby wildlife or your dog and cat. The pest control pro will carry out the treatment plan and, depending on the service agreement, provide follow-up such as emptying traps, inspecting access points, or reapplying pesticide spray if the pests return. Costs will vary based on the type of pest you are having removed and the extent of the infestation. The average national pest control price range is $80-$130. From a minor bedbug event to an entire home termite infestation, pest control companies have got you covered.

How much does it cost to treat a house for termites?

Termites are not only creepy-crawly, they can literally eat your house out from underneath you. Termites feed on damp and dry wood and can chomp through your house at an alarming rate. The national average pest control cost for termite extermination is $240-$400. Treatment costs can be higher for an extensive infestation. Here are some examples of average pest control costs for termites:

  • Liquid treatment of subterranean termites: $3-$4 per linear foot.
    • For $75 per year, a company may offer a maintenance plan that provides inspection of the property and renewal of the warranty.
  • Liquid treatment of subterranean termites: approximately $400 for a 2,000-square-foot home at $3-$5 per linear foot.
    • The price is higher for additional work such as foaming and drilling inside of concrete slabs.
  • Fumigation treatment of drywood termites: $1,200-$1,500 for a 30,000- to 35,000-cubic-foot home
    • Fumigation is measured in cubic feet because it fills the airspace of the home and infiltrates the wood that the termites may be colonizing. The cost of fumigation is affected by the number of levels in the home as well as the square footage.

How much does it cost to get rid of cockroaches?

Cockroaches are not only ugly, they are difficult to get rid of. Quick and resilient, they can be hard to get rid of without professional help once they have inhabited a house. Nationally, the average range for cockroach pest control cost is $80-$130. Extermination professionals typically provide a free estimate to determine the extent of the infestation. They’ll check for the main sources of the bugs, identify bug access and entry points into your home, and determine the best method for elimination. There are a variety of cockroach extermination tools including gel baits and traps, pesticide foggers, desiccants (which dry out the cockroaches), neurotoxins, and other pesticides. Pest control costs can also cover preventive measures like regular spraying and trap maintenance. Some regions of the country are much more prone to cockroach problems than others, so pest control costs may need to be part of your quarterly budget. Cockroaches love dark, humid, and warm areas and water sources, so place traps near your washer and dryer and under your sinks.

How much does it cost to remove a mouse?

If you have a mouse in your house you’re probably quickly researching pest control costs. Mice, although tiny, can transmit diseases and also get into your food and leave unsanitary droppings around your home. If you have seen one mouse in your house, it’s likely that more have taken up residence in your crawl space, attic or basement. The national average pest control cost is $150-$200. Costs can vary depending on whether you need to get rid of a population of living mice or just dispose of a dead mouse (or full traps), how extensive the mouse population is, and where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pest control cost for removing a mouse:

  • $150 for initial trap setup and inspection (and sealing of entry holes).
    • $50 for rodent removal service calls and emptying of traps. This visit can also include identifying and sealing entry points that were not sealed on the first visit.
  • Rodent extermination: $110-$350, depending on how heavy the rodent population is, whether the mouse infestation poses health risks, how many entrances exist and how many rodent bait stations are needed.

How much does it cost to get a pest inspection?

In general there is no cost for a pest inspection. Exterminators typically provide a free property or building inspection and then provide you with a written estimate outlining the necessary treatment and cost. The home visit allows the exterminator to assess the problem and let you know what your pest control cost will be if you contract with their services. You may need a termite inspection for real estate purposes. This will be a verified inspection showing that the house in question is termite-free (often done before a sale). The inspection may cost a flat rate, such as $125-$150, depending on house size.

It’s hard to predict pest control costs sight unseen due to the variety of factors that go into pest treatment. For example, a bedbug problem for one customer may be confined to one room and be easy to access and treat in one visit if the room is clear of clutter and the bedbugs have been caught early. In another home, a bedbug problem may also be confined to one room, but there’s a great deal of clutter, providing more hiding places for the bugs and requiring more spray and labor for the exterminator, as well as many pieces of large furniture in the room that need to sprayed. Depending on the maturity of the infestation, a bedbug problem may require multiple visits to entirely eliminate. This is why many companies provide a free inspection to determine pest control costs and provide you the most accurate quote possible.
