Brandon A. says, "In case the review is too lengthy and I bury the lead, the names Travis (didn't get the last name) and Marc Bernal are the main take-aways from this post. Travis, my advisor, took the drivel I wrote in my interview and linked me up with a solid pianist and instructor, Marc Bernal. I am 36-years-old, and guitar is my weapon of choice. While I'm just a hobbyist, with no desire to perform or work in sound/music, I've branched out into bass, synths, samplers, and other areas of audio manipulation over the years. Everything was self taught, so it was finally time to pull the trigger on some real music lessons, and piano seemed like the optimal choice. And while my time taking lessons was short lived due to a local instructor contacting me for in-person lessons, my time was certainly not wasted with StookU. Based on my written interview, Travis searched for mentors/instructors to best fit what he felt would fit my vibe on the piano. I was not disappointed. In just 4, 30 min. lessons with Marc Bernal, progression was evident. My speed, dexterity, and awareness of keys in general showed observable improvement. Despite a few technical hang-ups in the beginning, no problems occurred during any of the lessons. And the technical issues were more on my end than Marc's. Mr. Bernal was always punctual with a great attitude and an eagerness to share his knowledge of the instrument. It's clear Marc is not only passionate about the piano, but passionate about showing others what a versatile and elegant instrument it is. This might sound like I'm laying it on a little thick, but people underestimate how important these traits are for anyone who teaches anything. And it should be noted that I'm a solid student in most regards. However, I believe even someone that isn't excited as I am about learning new things, would stand to gain musical prowess from this. Attitude is everything, people! Before I conclude this review, I'd like to shout out Travis one more time. As an experimental, genre-hopping, wanna-be-multi-instrumentalist, the information I gave him in my interview must have been difficult for him to navigate. But he did. That was some solid instructor/student matchmaking. One last thing before I submit: StookU takes an interesting approach to music lessons, and I'm personally a fan of it. Any thing bad I might have to say is more reflective of growing pains of a young company than a shoddy business model and/or practices. It's totally worth a shot. At least try a month. I'm confident there will be progress."See more

Edith A. says, "Hi, my name is Edith and I am from Mexico. I have two degrees. I am a Systems Engineer (graduated from a University in Mexico) and a Teacher with an endorsement in Spanish (recently graduated from a University in the United States). However, no matter how much I have studied, I still struggle when speaking English and I have a very noticeable accent. That is why I was looking for precise lessons that would help me target my concerns. Last week I had my orientation session with Professor Alex. He started the session asking questions about myself like what was my native language, what were my main concerns when speaking English, what do I want to accomplish in this course, to name a few. Prof. Alex is very professional and nice, he listens to you and your concerns and he identifies your flaws from the moment you start talking. He gives you the rationale behind those mistakes you constantly make. Prof. Alex is very honest, he will tell you in a very professional way when you are not pronouncing correctly certain sounds, he won’t lie to you since he is committed to your learning. He uses this amazing technology that helps you visualize the movements in your mouth, tongue, and lips. Once you visualize the movements of your mouth, tongue, and lips that image stays in your brain and the next time you make that sound you will remember that image and you will be able to carry out that sound. By the end of my orientation session, I was one hundred percent sure that I wanted to start my English lessons with Prof. Alex. I highly recommend him if you want to improve your English."See more

Sophie C. says, "I’ve been working with Prof. Alex for a while in one-on-one sessions, and I truly want to say that his app InPronunci is just as PERFECT and EFFECTIVE as taking classes with him in person. Working together with Prof. Alex and practicing in InPronunci brings a lot of VALUE. What I really love is that the app itself is structured exactly the same way he teaches in his classes. The SMART thing about the app is the human-based instructions, because they guide you exactly like he does during his lessons. You learn so much from these instructions—and as non-native speakers, we truly need that kind of guidance to start speaking better and more confidently. Changing your speech is a process that requires a lot of dedication. At first, I thought it would be like a regular English class, but Prof. Alex showed me that this was the wrong way of thinking. He guided me toward the best way to actually achieve real results, and I am very thankful for that. I needed someone who could mentor me in accent reduction, and Prof. Alex is truly the best when it comes to both mentoring and teaching. InPronunci motivates you and supports you because of its human-based guidance—and that makes a huge difference. The AI accent coach in the app is also a perfect addition, helping you evaluate your speech, stay in control of your mistakes, and correct them step by step. I love working with InPronunci, and I highly recommend this app to anyone who truly wants to achieve GREAT results. ADVICE: schedule a session with prof. Alex because by yourself you wont succeed Ive been there I know what I am talking about! Thank you, Prof. Alex! you are really PRO the best!"See more
