True professionals in every sense of the word. Darius showed up on time, took the time to understand the requirements, made suggestions and gave us an estimate. He had forwarded me a copy of his insurance earlier. His crew of 4 worked an tandem as a team, and completed the job to our satisfaction and on time. Very pleased overall and would call them again for tree trimming and removal.

Adrian did an excellent job of removing dead plants and transforming my flower beds. He picked up all of the plants and soil from the store, which meant I did not have to worry about transporting them. He even went back to the store to buy more soil. He trimmed large limbs from a tree and came back, after being paid, with a chainsaw to smooth out rough areas. He was phenomenal, and I would highly recommend him. He has a very sweet spirit and does everything he can to ensure complete satisfaction.

I hired Jesus and his team to replace a rotting wood retaining wall that was over 20 years old. Jesus was always prompt, courteous and professional in all our communications. He always showed up on time and asked the right questions. Just that alone would set him apart from the majority of others that I had considered and contacted. On top of being a great professional, his quote was significantly lower than others. His team quickly completed the work, let me know when he was done, sent me a photo and then met me for the final inspection. I was so thoroughly satisfied with his work that I hired him for additional tree and shrub trimming work the same day he did the original job. I will definitely keep his business card around and refer him to others. Great job!

It is difficult for me to recommend Overstreet Lawn Care for medium-scale landscaping projects. Project Summary: Back yard stump removal, grading, and installation of sod. 1. Did not finish grading the yard due to an underestimation of time needed to remove stumps. Instead of reserving the excavator for another day to finish the agreed job, insisted that the yard was sufficiently graded as is. Now we have to re-grade the area that was left out. 2. The area prepped for sod was uneven and lumpy due to the ground not being properly rolled beforehand. As a result there are many sinkholes and mounds in the uneven sod. In many places I had to dig out extra/replace dirt myself after installation. 3. Poor installation of sod. I had to re-lay 30% of the sod due to large gaps left between the sod pieces. Overall the quality of work was mediocre. I may be wrong, but my guess is that Overstreet estimated X days for the project and when it became apparent that the estimate would not be met, the remaining work was rushed to completion instead of adjusting the schedule to complete the job with quality.

Highly Recommend. Great communication. Very Professional. ArbSmart did an excellent job pruning a large oak tree in our front yard. Jon-Erik was very careful with the prep and setup. He understood our request and worked to assure us that only the necessary branches would be removed. He arrived right on time and completed the job without delay. The team then cleaned up the area and hauled the trimmings away. We will definitely call ArbSmart for any tree services in the future. S.Fincher Acworth

Terrell Services hauled off years of tree trunks and limbs from the wooded area behind my home. Truthfully, the task was overwhelming. Chris knew he could do it, and he did. The cost was very reasonable considering the number of loads and the sheer volume. He left my driveway and my yard in immaculate condition. The wooded area looks great. I am absolutely thrilled with the job Terrell Services did for me!

I've used clean cut lawn service twice this month. My yard has many sweet-gum trees and requires sweet-gum removal as well as weed eating. The final result both times was a job well done. I will continue to use CCLS for maintaing my lawn.

Omar was THE BEST!!! He came out to me discuss a bad drainage issue and new sod installation and removal of bushes. He even came back a second time at my request to go back over everything w my SO. His pricing was fair and he was on time and very knowledgeable. He answered all our questions and included me in choices he was making as the Work was progressing instead of assuming how I’d like something. He didn’t take short cuts and was meticulous in his work. It was the first company in a long time I hired for anything hat I didn’t feel like I need to supervise their work. He installed a drainage system, timber retaining wall, new sod and mulch for us. He also removed many bushes, relocated some sprinkler heads and transplanted trees. Everything was done w great care and no shortcuts. You would be making a HUGE mistake to hire anyone else!!! Our neighbor put in new sod the month before and was so upset when she compared her lawn to ours. Her lawn was thrown down w lots of gaps and ours looked like a piece of carpet!!! Omar also made sure to get us very high quality Zosia. Omar is awesome and I fully recommend his company and service! We can’t wait to use our new yard!!!

We had a very tall tree blow over and land on the backside of our home. No extensive damage to the house, but the position and height of the tree prevented me from removing it on my own. Out of the 8 companies I contacted for a quote, Gordon Pro Tree Service was the only one I felt gave me a fair price for the work that needed to be done. The guys were on time, friendly, professional, and provided a couple hours of entertainment for my girls. If asked, I will recommend them to my friends and neighbors.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
