434 Tattoo really is the happiest place on the face of the Earth. Every time I have been there I have left with a smile that could cover the planet, that's for sure! I first met Adam Siehr in November of 2010. I have since been back for three tattoos and a consultation for a fourth. Considering that I was only going to get one tattoo in my life and have gotten 3 at 434 Tattoo, I think you get the picture. Adam and his team are the coolest and very professional. You can expect a straight up, no-nonsense fun visit. I've been to other shops where they don't even acknowledge you if you walk in. That's not the case at 434. I've also been to a one shop in Honolulu where I left a $20 deposit for a sketch and never heard back from the artist. The crew at 434 treats everyone with respect and the consultations are all for free. I can't wait to get back into 434 to take the next step in telling my story in ink and you can be sure that I'll be seeing Adam for that. Much aloha to the 434 Tattoo Shop in Honolulu!

I do Polynesian-style tattoos. Please see my website for more details. My strength is in the historical records, as I completed my MA degree in anthropology at UH Manoa, writing on traditional Marquesan tattoo in ancient times.

Monarch Tattoo is located in Hau'ula, on the north shore of Oahu. Most of our tattoo work is done by appointment. However, walk-ins are always welcome. We specialize in custom tattooing, and believe that a tattoo should fit the person wearing it. Our Polynesian tattoos are drawn on the body free hand, because your tattoo should be as unique as you are. This is where new concepts meet timeless tradition.

I am a henna artist for hire. I am a professional henna artist available for hire. I am located in Honolulu, but I will travel throughout Oahu for parties and events. I completed college with a degree in fine arts, and I have been running my own henna business for the past two years. Henna tattoo is an ancient body art. It is the applying of a paste made from the leaves of the henna plant creating intricate and beautiful temporary designs on various parts of the body, such as the hands, arms, legs, belly or feet. The body art usually lasts from one to three weeks. All my art is done freehand, and I can accommodate all custom requests. I use only 100% safe and natural products, giving my clients the best possible service. You can have the enjoyable experience of beautiful Henna designs decorating your body. Add this exotic and fun event to your next occasion. I am available for holiday parties, baby showers, bachelorette parties, birthday parties, bridal showers, corporate events, fairs, festivals, fundraisers, graduations, proms, quinceañeras, sweet sixteen parties, and girls' night out. Any event is extra special with henna art for entertainment! Price: $50 an hour (plus travel fees that vary upon location. There is no charge for the Honolulu area.) Please e-mail if you have any question or if you are interested in my services. Thank you. Stephanie

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does a henna tattoo stay on?

Typically a henna tattoo stays on anywhere from one to three weeks. Henna artists work with henna paste, also called mehndi, which dyes the skin for a short period of time. An important part of Indian culture, the use of henna has become increasingly popular in the United States, with henna artists providing henna tattoos for weddings, as event entertainment and for other special events. Henna artists typically apply their designs to the palms and backs of the hands, the wrists, up to the elbows, and from the feet up to the knees. To preserve the rich color of your henna tattoo and help it set, avoid water as much as possible within the first 24 hours of application. The color will be richest during the first week. Brides may want to have their henna tattoos applied one or two days before the wedding for optimal results.

What is the meaning behind henna tattoos?

Henna tattoos, as they are called in the United States, have a long tradition in Indian, African and Middle Eastern cultures. For centuries, the leaves of dried henna plants have been ground into a fine paste to be used as a temporary and nontoxic skin dye. This form of body decoration has been used in celebrations, weddings and ceremonial rites of passage in many cultures. Often in Hindu weddings, henna artists decorate the hands and feet of the bride (and at times the groom) with intricate designs. In some Muslim traditions, henna artists paint women with henna designs as they are in their final stages of pregnancy. In the United States, popular culture has adopted this beautiful body art and henna artists provide brides (and sometimes grooms) with temporary henna tattoos. Henna artists are also a popular choice for entertainment at corporate events, birthday parties, bachelorette parties and festivals. Henna artists may charge anywhere from $10 to $300 per hour.

How much does it cost to get a henna tattoo?

Nationally, the average cost to hire a henna artist is between $100 and $180 per hour. Rates will vary by location and the experience of the individual henna artist; it’s possible to find artists who charge less than $50 per hour. Some henna artists charge an hourly rate, especially for corporate events or festivals where they are providing service to multiple people within an hour. They may also charge flat rates for bridal and wedding services or special events. Here are some examples of average cost:

    • Hourly rate: $65-$85 or more per hour. Price is dependent on event size and number of attendees.
    • Starting rate for minimal palm designs: $15 or more.
    • Henna tattoos covering the hands and wrist and bottom of feet up to the ankle: $175.
    • Henna tattoos covering the hands to the mid-arm and feet to above the ankle: $300.
    • Henna tattoos covering the hands to the elbow and the feet to the knee: $450.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
