FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Pricing does vary on the situation. I have a flat honorarium of $175 which includes the initial meeting, creating a ceremony to the needs of the couple, performing the ceremony and filing of the marriage license. Additional expenses may be required based on location, etc. I do ask for an honorarium of $250 for weddings on holidays. If a wedding is requested to be held 14 days or less after the contract signing, there is a basic honorarium of $225. Weddings taking place outside of the Des Moines area require additional mileage expense of $.90 per mile, based on mileage from the Des Moines International Airport to the place of the ceremony. If an overnight stay is required, that is also an additional financial requirement. If a 'costume' is required for a themed wedding, that is also another fee. It's just easier to contact me and discuss your needs. If you need assistance in obtaining available hotels, restaurants, venue listings, florists, cake providers, photographers in the Des Moines metro, I can provide additional planning services at $50 in addition to my honorarium.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I update myself with ongoing information provided by the Universal Life Church. I read a lot of different spiritual materials and try to relate many things to the customer.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I had a bridal shop and many were asking if I knew of anyone who performed weddings without having to join a church or have some specific religious affiliation. I became ordained so that I could offer that service should anyone need it. Eventually the bridal shop was closed, so I began to post an ad on a website for my services. It was a slow start but it has blossomed into a very enjoyable past time. It's not my full time job but kind of a small gift to me...I love weddings!
