He was on time & very professional. Although the stain in carpet did not come out, I will not rate him on that bc the carpet was from a previous owner & we do not know how long the stain was there. Overall I was pleased with his work.

Our floors look amazing! We had 50 year old oak floors that had been abused over the years and now we have the perfect stain, the perfect finish, and an overall great experience. We lived in our lower level while most of our house was being worked on and Chano and his crew were careful to keep us sealed off from the rest of the house so any dust and the smell of the stain and sealer wouldn't bother us. They cleaned up our house afterward too so all we have to do is move back upstairs. We are happy with both the service and the end product. We highly recommend A Plus.

Mr. Maxwell called up withing fifteen minutes of contacting thumbtack. He was very polite and gave me an estimate on the phone. He came two days later and layed carpeting in my basement. I bought the carpet from Menards which he picked up and delivered to my home. He and and his brother did a great job of laying the carpet, cleaning up and were very professional. I would definitley recommend Mr. Maxwell and his brother.

Luis did an amazing recarpeting job for us. He was professional and prompt from the on set. We have an old house with many corners and small areas to cover, they got the carpet in perfectly! During installation he notified me of a small issue with a dye stain in the new carpe unfortunately it was already laid in the hallway and quite noticeable. He returned the next morning at 7 am after trying to remove the stain they attempted to patch it in the end he replaced the entire hallway as he said he needs to be sure we are happy, it now looks fantastic. We could not be more pleased. Thank you Luis, for going the extra mile, you are a true professional!

I just got my carpet cleaned in 3 rooms, a hallway and the stairs, plus they cleaned my sofa and love seat. They were professional, nice and reasonably priced. There was a small spot in my bedroom they couldn't get out, but it was heavily soiled and hadn't been done in a year. Normally I pay $75 more for just the carpet cleaning! I already plan to have them come back and do the carpet in the basement and registers.

Laith Fraihat is the professional for your carpets. Excellent service. I needed carpets cleaned for my new house right away before I moved in with all the stuff I have. At really short notice, and I mean less than 24 hours short notice, Laith was able to help me with it, explained me everything over the phone first, all steps involved. Arrived the next day before the agreed time and provided quality service with his brand new equipment. As I write this I realize I have not seen this level of professionalism and service for house servicing of any kind till date. Great value. Thank you so much for making my first house look incredible. I am definitely sending referrals your way. Thank you again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who cleans area rugs?

Like your carpets, area rugs should ideally be cleaned at least once a year to remove dust and dirt and help them last longer. In general, carpet cleaning professionals also clean area rugs. Some rug cleaners bring their cleaning equipment to your home, while others remove your area rugs and clean them at their facilities. Either way, the rug should be cleaned with the solution most appropriate to its specific fabric and construction. It should also be completely dry before you return it to the floor.

How often should carpets be steam cleaned?

Dirty carpets can be unhealthy for the people living in the home, particularly those who have allergies, so it’s important to have them cleaned regularly; simply vacuuming once or twice a week isn’t enough. Carpet cleaning should be done by a professional carpet cleaning service at least once a year to remove grime and help extend the life of your carpet. Most carpet manufacturers recommend professional steam cleaning, which penetrates deep into the carpet fibers and lifts out both dirt and the pollutants that get tracked inside. Steam cleaning also removes most of the moisture, so carpets dry quickly enough for homeowners to resume using them the same day. Between professional carpet cleanings, your carpet may need an emergency spot cleaning. Pet accidents, food or drink spills, and more can often be effectively cleaned with some water and a drop of white vinegar, although many cleaners will also make house calls for smaller spills and hard-to-clean spots like wine or grease stains.

How much does it cost to clean a rug?

Area rugs are typically found in high-traffic areas of the home, like hallways and entryways, so they collect more dirt and stains than simple vacuuming can handle. Similar to carpet cleaning, professionals can come to your home to deep-clean your area rugs. The national average cost for rug cleaning ranges from $80 to $120, but may be higher or lower depending on the rug’s size and fiber type. Rug cleaners generally charge by the square foot; for example, a standard 8-foot by 10-foot rug costs an average of $100 to clean. Natural fiber rugs, such as wool or silk, are usually more expensive to have cleaned than synthetic rugs. A carpeting cleaning company may charge on average $1.50 per square foot to clean a synthetic rug, $2 per square foot for a wool rug, and $3 per square foot for a silk rug. Some delicate rugs need to be washed by hand, which increases the price. Carpet cleaning companies often offer additional services, such as removing odors or applying moth deterrent, which can add 20 cents to 25 cents per square foot.

How much does it cost to carpet a bedroom?

If you’re building a new home, remodeling, or ready for new carpet in your bedroom, you’ll want to know carpet installation costs. Here are the factors that affect the cost of your new bedroom carpet:

  • Installation cost per square yard: From under $2 to over $6. Carpet companies have a labor cost per square foot for installing your new carpet. Depending on where you live in the country, that rate can vary greatly. This rate does not include the cost of the carpet.
  • Type of carpet: from $1 per square foot to $20 or more per square foot. The fibers that make up your carpet will have a direct effect on cost. As an example, specialty wool carpets may start at about $10 per square foot, while a manufactured fiber like nylon may be about $2 per square foot.
  • Removal of old carpet: from $1 to $4 per square yard. Old carpet is labor-intensive to remove and also costs money to dispose of or recycle. The cost to remove carpet will depend on how much carpet you need removed and whether your installation pros offer a discounted rate for installing your new carpet at the same time.
  • Subfloor repair: from $40 to $70 per hour (plus materials cost). If the flooring underneath your old carpet is damaged, it must be repaired before the new carpet is installed. Many carpet pros can offer this service, or you can hire a handyman to handle the job.
  • Type of carpet pad: $1 per square yard and up, depending on the thickness. The cost to install carpet pad is typically included with the labor cost per yard of installing the carpet itself.

How much is the cheapest carpet?

If you’re looking to reduce carpet installation costs, there are several ways to save. Start by considering your carpeting needs. Manufactured materials such as polyester and nylon will be cheaper than natural fibers such as wool. From big box retailers, starting prices for olefin-based carpet are approximately 50 cents per square foot — making the cost under $5 per square yard. Indoor carpets made with olefin fibers are typically the least expensive on the market. Keep in mind that olefin fibers are not as soft on bare feet as other fibers, so are often used in areas like basements, playrooms or indoor patios. Nylon and polyester are good options to reduce carpet installation costs while still creating a cozy feel. The face weight, fiber construction and density of a carpet all affect the cost per square foot. The cheapest nylon or polyester carpets can start at just under $2 per square foot, making them about $18 per square yard. Lower-cost carpet tends to wear out more quickly and show stains more easily, so avoid light colors and vacuum regularly to keep the fibers clear of dirt that might age it too quickly.
