I had Lucy clean my house last Friday. Before I go on and review their job, let me just say that I was so happy she was fluent in English! I had lovely people perform this job in the past for us, the language barrier turned out to be the problem every time though. When she showed up - on time 9am - she brought along 3 girls, one of them a supervisor Margaret (spelling?) who, too was fluent speaker. Hallelujah:) I am very particular when it comes to cleanliness. I did go over room after room to see if my requests were met. Everything was clean, put away (they have a rule - no dishes, which I am ok with), they used natural products (except the toilet bowls - where I prefer to bleach the life out of it:) and our marble kitchen island and quartz coffee table). Communication was fast and efficient, $ reasonable and I will update if things change but as of now I have nothing but positive things to say about Lucy's work.

We hired Mark to tear out vinyl tile from our 2 bathroom floors and replace it with ceramic. The price he quoted us was the price we paid and his work was fantastic. We had both our bathrooms finished in only 3 days total. Couldn't be any happier!

Outstanding service, was very prompt, answered all my questions, and did an excellent job. We were surprised he was able to get out some of the stains on our tile.

Last winter, the snow really took a toll on my roof and subsequently, my living room. Once I got the roof fixed, I needed the living room ceiling repaired and painted. I contacted Perfect Interiors and Ed (the owner) gave me a very reasonable quote to do the entire room. The workers arrived on time, repaired the water damage and painted the ceiling. Ed helped me pick out the perfect wall color as well as an accent color for one wall. I can hardly believe it's the same room! Ed was so helpful I decided to have him remodel my master bathroom. I didn't know where to start but he assisted with choosing a vanity top, sink, fixtures, tile and paint colors. Once again, they did a wonderful job. Five stars!!

Remodeled bathroom, He installed new drywall taped and mud. Installed New ceramic tile floor , installed cement board, laid the tile and grouted the floor and it looks beautiful. He also addressed some structural needs for the tub/shower and repaired. He was there when he said he would be. Careful with tools and supplies going in and out of the house( drop clothes, clean and neat about work space and protecting floors and surfaces. Fast and efficient excellent work. I have used His services in other homes remodeling and always find him knowledgable, and enjoyable to work with highly recommend! Excited to paint the room this weekend!

Luis and his workers did a great job on our kitchen tile floor; my wife and I were very impressed and have asked him to perform other jobs for us. We felt he he was very fair on the labor costs and was also very timely in completion of his work.

They came over but due to certain curcumstances not in their control they where unable to fix my door. They did give some great advice towards going with ceramic tile for our new kitchen floor and getting our floor done before we replace the laundry room door. They where very nice! If I ever really do actually get my floor done I would definitley call them again to install my new laundry room door. I really appreciate them coming over and trying anyways. They were wonderful!

I have used Sir Grout twice and both times have been completely satisfied with the end product. I have had my ceramic tile floors done and my shower. Dan was very responsive and explained what would be done and his workers were very professional and the work was completed in the time frame promised. I would definitely use them again.

I hired June to clean my mountain house in 2008. The home was 3 levels, 4 bedrooms, 3 baths, jacuzzi, Italian tile countertops, ceramic tile floors and carpeted floors. June arrived at the house (ALWAYS on time), brought all her supplies and started cleaning. I really liked the fact that she used Mrs. Meyer's products......and any other supplies were environmentally safe. She used cotton cloths instead of paper towels to keep waste to a minimum. June was so very thorough which was the most important for me as I was physically unable to clean due to a disability. She always went the extra mile to clean what she saw was needed. Window sills, baseboard, cabinets.....above and beyond regular surface cleaning. June took as much time as was needed to complete the job. She didn't clean "by the clock" rather she cleaned until the house was really clean. June was so very pleasant to have in the house that we eventually became dear friends. If I hosted a party or dinner at mt house I could always count on June to come over between her regularly scheduled cleaning days. I admired June's work ethic. She was attending school at the same time she was cleaning homes and for her to be able to juggle college and maintain an excellent cleaning company was impressive. The ONLY reason June and I ended her cleaning for me was the fact I had to sell my house after the death of my husband and she was still there every step of the way, helping, cleaning and being a friend. I would HIGHLY recommend June for any and all types of cleaning jobs!

Originally hired to paint. He painted all the interior of 6 room bi-level house, patched and sanded all cracks and holes perfectly. Painted utility room floor. He then installed a laminate floor in 24x15 bedroom and closet and was able to remove molding and quarter round and reattach it without ruining it. He installed new faucet and drain in bathroom. Put in new drain in kitchen. Secured 2 large evergreens in front yard that were leaning and did some outside painting, fixed a shower door that was in terrible condition and made it look beautiful, replaced broken ceramic tile and grouted, moved and installed new water heater and ran all new lines, installed new liner in flue pipe, and did many miscellaneous repairs as I found them while working in the house. He knew his limitations and would call in someone who was in that line of work to help him if he needed it. Always went beyond what the average person would do today. He was on time the majority of time. I have absolutely no suggestions to improve the work because it was all done better than anyone could have done it.

Please know that I highly recommend Freddy Diaz of 3B’s Contracting for residential home improvement work. I hired 3B’s, and specifically Freddy Diaz, to do a complete renovation of a two bed, two bath condo in Glenwood, IL. I live in Minnesota so I needed someone I could trust to do the job without my on-site supervision. I was given a referral to Freddy and contacted him. He met me later that day to estimate the job. A couple weeks later he provided me a complete, detailed proposal. We met one more time at the condo and I signed the contract, gave him a deposit of about half the contract and the keys and returned to Minnesota. In fact, I soon left for about a month out of the country! When I returned to Glenwood about a month later, the job was essentially complete! Again, this was a complete renovation. All the floor coverings were removed and new carpet, vinyl and ceramic tile installed. Old wallpaper was scraped off and walls patched and painted. All new kitchen appliances, sink and quartz counter tops were installed. Cabinets were repainted. All new bathroom fixtures and controls were installed. Light fixtures, electrical outlets and switches were replaced with new. Exterior windows were returned to operational condition. Nothing was left untouched. Freddy encountered some minor issues in my absence which he dealt with while keeping the project within budget and completed on schedule. I received compliments from the building management on how Freddy’s crew cleaned up the hallways and elevator each day they were on the site. In summary, I am extremely pleased with the finished apartment and most satisfied with how easy Freddy made the process. He was sensitive to budget concerns and helped make selections that kept the cost down. He proved to be extremely trustworthy and more than competent. He communicates well and was always responsive to my questions. I could not be happier with the results of the project.

I consider myself to be a clean person, but I had no idea just how bad my tile and grout was in my bathroom until I saw what Eddie could do; he made my white bathroom look brand new again! The white tile floors, walls and shower seriously glowed when he finished! The floors just FEEL cleaner, even 4 months afterwards! There is no way I'd attempt to deep clean my bathroom again; Eddie restored it much quicker than it would have taken me to sit and scrub grout with a toothbrush-that would have taken me all day! My dad, the skeptic, noticed the difference right away without me even telling him, and now he is spreading the word! This machine is incredible! Eddie also cleaned my granite countertops-I clean them all the time with special granite cleaner, but he brought out a glittery sparkle that I never saw before, and the counters just FEEL smooth and clean-no buildup. As far as service, Eddie was friendly, easy going, took special care to make sure he got every corner clean, and is reasonably priced! I will definitely call him for upkeep.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

      • Old standard or electric toothbrush
      • Stiff bristle brush
      • Spray bottle
      • White vinegar
      • Commercial grout cleaner

How much does it cost to clean tile and grout?

The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Pros may charge a flat fee or by the square foot. Rates can vary depending on the type of tile and grout you have (more delicate tiles may mean specialized products or careful handwashing), how dirty your tile and grout are, and what part of the country you are in (regional labor rates and costs to do business affect costs). For example, one floor cleaning company charges 75 cents per square foot for tile and grout cleaning for projects that permit cleaning by machine. Another company may charge $30-$50 per hour for hand-cleaning of tiles. Companies often charge a minimum fee for services to ensure their business expenses are met when they accept a job, no matter how small. In addition, a tile and flooring cleaning professional may charge added fees, such as $25 or more, to move heavy furniture or appliances.

How do professionals clean tile and grout?

If you need tile and grout cleaning and don’t have the time or mobility for scrubbing your entire house on your hands and knees, it’s time to turn to the pros. Tile and grout cleaning professionals have industrial-grade machines designed for the sole task of cleaning the porous materials of grout and tile. Typically, a cleaning pro will come out to assess the job and provide you with a quote. Often they charge per square foot (for example, 75 cents per square foot), with higher prices or an hourly rate for areas that will need hand cleaning. The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Once onsite, the pros thoroughly clean the area by wiping or sweeping down and then vacuuming up any dry dirt. Next a chemical tile cleaner is sprayed over the surface, causing dirt to loosen and adhere to the spray; the industry term for this is “suspension.” The pros then clean the floor with professional-strength machines, which often use a combination of steam, brushes and vacuum to loosen, agitate and lift entrenched dirt. Your floor is then rinsed, removing all the spray. Usually a small room can be cleaned in under an hour. Applying a sealant afterward is recommend and will also affect cost.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
