We needed to have some remodeling done in one of our bathrooms, and Handyman Matters came out and replaced our vanity and toilet, and they retiled the floor and the walls with nice Travertine tile. Because it was a larger job, their General Manager came out and patiently walked me through various options and a detailed explanation for the various steps involved. After settling on the scope of work that I wanted, he sent me a detailed cost estimate that broke the work down into the various sub-projects and the costs of each of those items. The work itself was done to perfection, so much so that I had to call him out again during the project to update a few more items in the bathroom (like the mirror and cabinets) so that they matched the quality of other work. I especially liked the fact that I was able to talk to the GM throughout the project to make the mid-course changes that inevitably come up. Their front office was also great in scheduling the work around my busy schedule. Great job!

Beware of this company. It took them over 6 hours to install a front door when they originally said 3-4. Ended up going to court with this company contesting their over billing and poor craftsmanship that I had to pay over $400 to have fixed. They ultimately won because they forged my initials on the estimate part of the invoice and they filled in dollar amounts after it was signed . It is our word against theirs and we can't change the judgement. We did learn a painful lesson about making sure to get copies of everything and getting everything in writing. My advice is to avoid this company. There are far better companies out there that are cheaper, do quality work, and not as deceptive.

We did everything correctly, including having all of the documentation properly signed by the customer, and the court agreed with us COMPLETELY in this matter and awarded us our full fee as well as our court costs. He is correct in that we had initially quoted him 4 hours based on his description of what was needed. But once we arrived on site, we realized that some of the work would require a second man because of the weight of the door and some other issues, so we increased the estimate to 4-6 hours which the customer initialed on the invoice BEFORE we began any work as is our standard practice. When the work was completed in 6 hours, the customer reviewed the work with our craftsman and had no issues with the work, and the customer signed the invoice where it says "I hereby acknowledge the satisfactory completion of all services rendered and agree to pay the total specified." Unfortunately, social media today allows individuals to say what they will about certain things without having to substantiate their statements, but we were very gratified that the Court system reviewed all of the details and documents in this situation and completely agreed with our version of the story, awarding us our full payment as well as our court costs. We have been in business for over 10 years now, and we value our good reputation as evidenced by over a thousand great reviews on Angie's list at this point. We do make mistakes every now and then like every other company, and we do our best to try to work those out with our customers as long as they are willing to be reasonable.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

We typically work on a time and materials basis, but for certain projects, we can do a fixed bid. Just call us for more information.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Most customers will call or email us. We then talk to you about your project. Sometimes we can estimate the time it will take to complete your project right then and there. In other cases, we might need some pictures from you. And, for other larger projects, we may need to send out an estimator. If you accept our estimate, we'll get the project scheduled, and you'll be on your way!
