I was needing some serious relief from mounting stress. Oleg was quick to respond and very accommodating with his schedule. He did an amazing job first making sure he knew my needs, then he proceeded to give me the most thorough massage I have ever experienced. Very professional and has intuitive hands. Definitely an experience I want to repeat.

Anatoly Pak is a true healer. He defines what eastern medicine is all about; treating the WHOLE person, mentally and physically. His compassion and patience makes him much more than an accupuncturist. He has introduced me to a healthy way of living through smart nutrition and intelligent exercise, to heal the body, not to exhaust it. I am back on track and off many medications! He is a blessing to all that seek his guidance!

Carrianne has a talent few others share. She displays an incredibly intuitive touch and interpretation of the body I have not found in many others. She finds not just the knots, but the knots causing the problems. Her sense of depth within the tissues always seems spot on with very little verbal assistance on my part

After being bedridden for two days, I crawled into the office of Dr. Joseph unable to stand due to muscles pinching the sciatic nerve which caused unbearable pain in my lower back and down my thigh. We literally met each other with me laying on her office floor:) After my first treatment, not only was I able to walk out of her office, but my overall lower back pain had diminished by 70%, and I had a thorough understanding of my injury, her proposed treatment plan, and exercises I could do on my own until my next treatment. Dr. Joseph treated me two more times, and I haven't had a problem since. I highly recommend Dr. Joseph. She is extremely knowledgeable about the entire workings of the body/skeletal/muscular/nervous systems, will explain exactly what caused your condition and how she will treat it, has a wonderful bedside manner, is professional with managing her appointments, and is an outstanding healer. You will not be disappointed!

I have had the great pleasure of having several Holy Fire Reiki sessions with Laura. We first always speak about the desire and intention for the reiki to work on for that session. Laura is highly gifted and her intuition allows for many messages from Jesus, Angels, The Holy Spirt and one's Higher Self. She is thoughtful, caring and truly wants healing to occur. Her warm heart allows for an unconditional space that is open to express exactly what you feel. There was never judgement, in fact, she expresses deep compassion and kindness. She is a great, great facilitator for healing for her clients! I highly recommend a session with her!!!!

My massage therapist gave me an "Awesome" Swedish therapeutic massage. The massage was very thorough and she worked the various body areas repeatedly with her obviously trained skills. She engages her clients and knows how to apply just the just the right amount of pressure. Shari is one of the most intuitive body workers I have had work on me. I left relaxed renewed. I am pleased to highly recommend Shari.

I have known Richard Sperry as a devoted and deeply grateful client. I found his services listed on the Association of Bodywork and Massage Professionals website when I was looking for a specialist in deep tissue work. He has proved himself to be utterly reliable, an excellent listener, honest, and an outstanding massage therapist. He cares greatly about healing clients. Richard demonstrates the qualities that are imperative to me in a massage therapist: attentiveness to what I want and need; total focus on delivering relief; communicating with me whether his treatment is effective; strength (especially thumbs), stamina, and a knowledge of anatomy. I have been a consumer of deep tissue massage, body work, trigger point for over 32 years. I have gone through four series of rolfing. As an athlete I crave deep tissue work to be able to continue to engage in the sports I enjoy. As someone who works on a laptop all day, I need help easing the tension in my upper back. Richard Sperry is without qualification the best massage therapist I have ever engaged. He is entirely professional and clearly loves his work. The fact that he communicates with me--that he asks and listens to what I want speaks to his maturity as a professional and his devotion to helping, truly healing, clients. Not only is he intuitive, he has ethic of a healer with the technique, strength, and desire to meet my needs. Richard is never late, adjusts on a dime to meet my scheduling needs, and has never disappointed. I highly recommend him to anyone seeking a true professional with a versatile repertoire of techniques, from Swedish to deep tissue.

        About

Practitioner and teacher of Kundalini yoga, Reiki and walking meditation called BreathWalk. In addition, I offer meditation and gong bath deep relaxation. I enjoy supporting others as they grow. Here's more information about what I do: Kundalini Yoga Kundalini Yoga, brought to the United States in 1969 by Yogi Bhajan, is a yoga style that incorporates mind, body and spirit through kriyas, deep relaxation, and meditation. Kundalini is the energy that resides at the base of the spine and is activated by asanas (postures) contained in a kriya (complete sequence) or meditation. When activated, a person realizes their full potential or is a state of self-actualization. This is the power of Kundalini Yoga, being fully present and self-empowered. Reiki Energy Balancing The word “Reiki” is Japanese and means "Universal Life Force". It is a powerful yet subtle bio-energy healing modality used to balance and heal mind, body and spirit. Healing takes place physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Reiki can be used by itself for healing and maintenance or as Complimentary Alternative Medicine (in conjunction with traditional Western medical therapies). Reiki does not conflict with religious belief systems. What is BreathWalk BreathWalk is the practice of mastering mind, body and breath on-the-move. It is a combination of the most fundamental things we do daily: breathing, walking and meditating.

          About

I get results because I connect to the source of the issue(s) and not just the symptoms. Healers are like blind people trying to describe an elephant. Each one can only see a part of the elephant, but together they paint a tapestry of what vision we do have.

          Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

          What is naturopathic medicine?

Naturopathic medicine is classified as an alternative healing method, but licensed naturopathic doctors share some of the same academic background as conventional medical doctors and can often prescribe some medications. According to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP), naturopathic medicine is holistic care that addresses a wide range of problems including (but not limited to) allergies, chronic pain, digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, obesity, respiratory conditions, heart disease, fertility problems, menopause, adrenal fatigue, cancer, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. Naturopathic medicine aims to strengthen and empower the body and its organs to heal itself through low-force interventions. Here are some examples of the type of medical services often provided by naturopathic doctors, as cited by the AANP:

          • Clinical and laboratory diagnostic testing
          • Nutritional medicine
          • Botanical medicine
          • Naturopathic physical medicine (including naturopathic manipulative therapy)
          • Hygiene
          • Counseling
          • Minor surgery
          • Homeopathy
          • Acupuncture
          • Intravenous and injection therapy
          • Naturopathic obstetrics (natural childbirth)

What is Reiki and how does it work?

Reiki is a type of wellness bodywork, often referred to as energy work, that originated in Japan. Reiki practitioners offer this traditional healing technique with the intent of manipulating the flow of energy through the client’s body. Unlike massage, Reiki uses minimal — if any — pressure, focusing on stimulating energy flow rather than working the soft tissue and muscles. This movement of energy is done to improve mental, emotional and physical health. Reiki is touted for its stress relief and ability to ease tension. It can also improve mental clarity, release stress and tension, manage pain, or help with spiritual growth. It is said that Reiki practitioners act as a channel for a universal life force to help support a client’s natural ability to heal. Reiki sessions often last 30 to 90 minutes, with prices varying based on session length, background and experience of the provider, and where you live. Nationally, the average price range for a Reiki session is $60-$80.

          Can naturopathic doctors prescribe medication?

Licensed naturopathic doctors can prescribe some pharmaceutical medication. Naturopathic doctors complete academic training similar to that of conventional physicians: a bachelor’s degree with a focus on pre-med studies, followed by a four-year residential naturopathic medical program whose first two years have a similar foundation to that of a conventional medical school. After completing their studies, they must pass a post-doctoral exam. Although licensed naturopathic physicians are able to prescribe medication, they usually focus on prevention rather than treatment of symptoms. A naturopathic doctor will offer a holistic approach to your care that encompasses your mental, physical and emotional health. While they will prescribe medication as needed to treat illness, they are also likely to be creating shifts in your lifestyle and nutrition to effect deeper changes in your body’s response to illness.

How long do naturopathic doctors go to school?

Like conventional physicians, naturopathic doctors undergo rigorous academic and clinical training prior to practice. Typically naturopathic doctors go to school for eight years. There are currently 20 states in the U.S. that provide licensing for naturopathic doctors. According to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, a naturopathic doctor must complete a bachelor’s degree and an accredited four-year residential naturopathic medical program, and pass an extensive postdoctoral board examination, the Naturopathic Physicians Licensing Examinations (NPLEX), in order to receive a license or registration to practice medicine.

The first two years of the residential naturopathic medical program cover many of the same areas of study as conventional medical schools. Naturopathic doctors provide primary patient holistic care. The goal of naturopathic medicine is preventative care and a focus on low force intervention healing methods. This can include natural medicines, acupuncture, hydrotherapy, homeopathy and much more. Naturopathic doctors often work in tandem with conventional medical doctors, as the two practices complement one another.

How do you find a good naturopath?

It’s important not to get misled by the title “naturopath” when searching for a naturopathic doctor. A naturopathic doctor is a licensed professional, while anyone who so desires can call themselves a naturopath. A naturopathic doctor has completed eight years of schooling and is licensed to provide high-quality medical care. When searching for a naturopathic doctor, a good place to start is by researching your state’s licensing and regulatory body for that profession.

Currently, 20 U.S. states license the practice of naturopathic medicine. For those seeking holistic, body-centered healing solutions, a naturopathic doctor can be a good fit. They use natural medicines as well as treatments such as electrotherapy and ayurvedic medicine to encourage the body to heal. Once you have determined a list of naturopathic physicians who are licensed in your state, look for reviews, ask for referrals, and interview the physician in person or by phone to find the right care provider for your health needs.
