Our daughter (Kivi) started with the recorder in 4th grade, and soon graduated to clarinet. By Middle School, she was taking lessons from a classical teacher who advanced her skills markedly. Upon reaching high school, she was in demand by the jazz band - whose leader persuaded her to take up the saxophone. Kivi loved the sax, and loved jazz, but clarinet remained her first instrument. I thought of the great jazz clarinet players: Pete Fountain at the top of a substantial list. But we could find no one who could teach jazz clarinet. Finally, we attended an event at VanderCook, and one of the presenters gave us Jon's name. Kivi studied with Jon for about two years. I was disappointed with the amount of time Kivi had to spend practicing Jon's lessons - what high schooler has time for anything? Nevertheless, Kivi learned a great deal from Jon, and was the only student to ever perform a clarinet solo in our high school's jazz band history ("Jack the Bear"). Jon was unique in my experience in that he taught what Kivi wanted to learn - rather than imposing a rigid course of instruction. If you are considering private lessons that offer something both valuable and unique, please look no further than Jon Novi.
Bob works with me in my home. As an adult learner, he is good about keeping me on pace even though I started from square one on the piano. He is kind and professional as well as easy to work with. I recommend him to any learner looking for a good teacher.
I am adult who just learning to play piano. Stacey listened to what I was looking to accomplish, and tailors my instruction to me. She is fun to work with, encourages and challenges very positively
I've been taking lessons with Shaun for about two years. I've grown as a musician and as a guitar player mastering songs that I struggled with on my own. I've been playing for 16 years and as an advanced student, never run out of things to learn.
Jerry and his bass player are fabulous musicians. The 30 or so guests at our holiday party just loved them. Jerry is very professional and it is very easy to communicate with him. We will definitely him back again!
Vicki performed on what turned out to be one of the most memorable days of my entire life. I asked her to play inside of the lobby of a helicopter concierge tour building while I proposed to my girlfriend on our Anniversary after our flight tour landed. Working with her was a true pleasure because she was flexible and more than willing to accommodate my requests. I compared pricing from multiple other violin players and she was by far the most reasonable. Vicki quoted me a very fair price because I only needed her services for less than an hour due to the nature of the situation. I was going to get down on one knee as she played 3 songs that I custom chose from a list of song suggestions that she provided. I asked her to learn my girlfriend's favorite Ed Sheeran song and performed it perfectly. Unfortunately, our helicopter tour got cancelled 4 hours before take-off due to the unexpected heavy snowfall. I had no plan B at the time and decided to ask her if she could perform outside under the Bean(Cloud Gate) in Millennium Park. My request also included pushing the performance back two hours, while it was freezing cold and snowing out. Vicki was able to seamlessly coordinate with two of my fiancé's friends to take photos and video of the entire proposal while timing everything flawlessly. Vicki deserves high praise for her reliability and adaptability during a stressful situation for me. I was not expecting her to accommodate my tall request, but she delivered on every level. I was so impressed with her professionalism and attention to detail that I insisted on tipping her to match her original performance fee she quoted.(As a side note, she never asked for any additional money when I completely changed the plan to having her perform outside in bad weather.) There are very few people that would have been willing to accommodate my requests on such short notice. Vicki contributed to an amazing night and elevated the entire experience. My fiancé and I will NEVER forget how perfect our engagement turned out and the selfless contribution that Vicki made to ensure that it was a success. I would recommend Violin by Vicki to anyone that wants to hire a talented, kind-hearted, professional that exceeds all expectations. Cheers!
I love her! Funniest, sweetest, most understand person I've meet. She's my inspiration! The main reason why I was so interest in playing piano and the reason why I'm still at it today. She'll take you very very far.
I'm a college student at NIU. I'm not an experienced guitar player by any means. However, I could play a few chords and wanted to get better. While studying with Pete we practiced some songs I was hoping to learn. Can definitely say it was worth it.
I couldn't have asked for more from Greg's approach. He adjusted and tailored his style and our lessons to meet me where I was at yet provided the right level of challenge to keep me motivated
Clarke is a talented piano player with an impressive repertoire of classic compositions. He has an affinity for the music of Alkan and Rachmaninoff and his talent for playing these composers' and others' arrangements is inspiring. He is a supportive and encouraging teacher and is able to focus lessons to the level of the student. His teaching techniques are professional and based on standard piano pedagogy, but that does not mean that he will not try more unorthodox methods if needed to help the student progress. I highly recommend him if you are looking for a technically proficient, energetic, and giving piano teacher.
Began piano lessons with Clara as a mature adult. She is extremely patient and highly skilled at breaking things down to smaller, more achievable goals. Enjoyed each lesson and opportunities to play with others.
I had the pleasure of studying with Fran. He's a phenomenal guitar player, teacher and performer!!
Kim was absolutely wonderful. My daughter is very shy and she loved taking piano lessons with her. She makes learning fun and my daughter now loves to play piano!
I had been looking for a chance to take my guitar abilities to the next level since graduating from college with my music business degree. While I've met many guitar players who were capable, I wanted the best guitar teacher I could find and not ONLY is Paul an excellent guitar player, but he's an excellent teacher as well. His patience while I worked through more advanced techniques was incredible and his ability to provide the learning material in simple terms helped immensely. If you're looking for a guitar player to teach you, you can find those anywhere. But if you want an amazing guitar player with equally impressive teaching abilities, Paul is your ideal teacher. I 100% recommend him without question.
My first lesson with Albert led me to believe that playing the piano is something I would like to pursue. He made it fun and taught me the key names in the matter of minutes. Thank you for showing me that playing the piano is just as enjoyable as listening to it.
My daughter, Piper, started her 1st music lessons with Miss Jessica at age 7. She laid the foundation for love of music which continues to this day. Her thoughtful lessons designed to suit Piper's ability, made learning fun and easy. Her uncanny patience brought them through periods when faced with greater music challenges. I appreciated her approachable demeaner and willingness to keep an open dialogue. Piper passed from piano to French horn in 5th grade when school band was offered. With the benefit of lessons from Miss Jessica, it made for a smooth transition. Thanks for 4 great years! Kate (Piper's mom)
Dear Mike and Dave, Thank you both so much for a wonderful evening of entertainment. As the event planner for our company it is always hard to know what type of entertainment will work with our large and diverse group needless to say you guys knocked it out of the park. First with the Jazz music during our social and dinner, then with the dueling pianos after dinner. I love how you worked the crowd and got everyone involved the best was the little cow bell competition you started between both of our presidents! It is always a good time when you can see top executives of a company let loose and have fun. :) Everyone had such a blast, I will definitely keep you guys at the top of my list for next time.
I have played piano since I was five and also have extensive experience in music theory, taking four college classes in it. I also have been a piano accompanist for 10 years and have a background in singing and performance as well. I was classically trained and also have been in jazz band throughout high school and college. My business is to teach piano and/or music theory to my students in a precise and definitive manner so as to provide instruction to better the world with more musicians. My piano instructor trained me well, and I plan on doing the same with every student.
I provide live music entertainment for dinners, socials, teas and weddings. I offer fine music on piano or guitar for short-term or longtime engagements such as country clubs and fine restaurants.
I am very dedicated and passionate music educator which I make sure that all of my students are equipped with the necessary tools to really enjoy music. Many of my students went off to study music at the collegiate level, participate in many national and international Music Festivals/Competitions and had successful debuts at major concert venues nationally and internationally.
I do solo piano and piano/vocal performances, customized to your needs.
