We had a top of the line patio installed this past spring at our home in Park Ridge. The final touch was to have a gazebo installed so we connected with Reese. I was amazed at Reese's whole "process." He comes completely prepared with every tool, solution, etc. for any job. This was a really detailed & intricate job that took a ton of preparation putting the pieces together before the whole gazebo was installed. I HIGHLY recommend Reese and team and look forward to having him do our next major project!

Jack was very efficient, kind and got everything done that I had asked. I had him out together two end tables and a rolling rack, he got all of it accomplished in 1 hour and my items looked great! He brought all of his own tools so he did not need anything from me. I would highly recommend him for any of your handyman needs: he can, paint, assemble furniture, hang pictures or shelves and mount tv's so really anything you need can be taken care of.

I hired them do an outside Christmas light installation. It involved several trees, front of house and patio. I was to supply the lights, cords, timer etc. They were on time, on budget, and did a fantastic job. Those are things I pretty much expect from any service vendor. What made them extraordinary is that Brian and Rich patiently exchanged enumerable texts with me about the project which took a lot of time they didn't bill me for and was my fault. I waited too long to buy the lights and ran into trouble finding the type I wanted in the quantity the project required. I had checked several stores in my area but was unable to find everything. They came to do the installation but I was short on the lights and they couldn't do the windows. I told Brian I needed more time to find the lights, and that I would need them to come back to install them. Brian immediately volunteered to look for the lights and purchase them and to come back and install them. He got them later that evening and let me know he'd be back and would install them at no extra charge (just reimbursement for the lights). That was going way beyond my expectations and deserves acknowledgment. Throughout it all, both Brian and Rich were professional, friendly, good natured and polite. It was a pleasure dealing with them. I will use them for future projects and recommend them without any hesitation.

Trish was punctual and skillful. She assemble the entire 7 piece patio dining set in about an hour. Reviews on line stated that it took longer than that to assemble a single chair! Also, she was able to handle the 172 lb. table top herself! I would definitely recommend her to friends and would not hesitate to hire her again for another project.

Great service! I now have a reliable, honest and courteous handyman!! Call Andrew for all your repair needs!! I’m sure I’ll be contacting him for any future repairs. Andrew promptly answered my quote request. He followed up with me to discuss the repair. He came to repair my kitchen sink and thoroughly discussed the status with us! Again, call Andrew — you won’t be disappointed!

I am extremely happy with my experience with Wrap and Strap Moving! They were on time, quick, and very efficient. I also had a very difficult move including many heavy items and a pool table that needed to be disassembled and re-assembled at a different location. Everything went way smoother than anticipated. I would highly recommend these guys for any moving services big or small. Also very affordable!!

Earl was very responsive. I used thumbtack Friday night and Monday he was here as I told him how urgent it was. My oven install was fixed after Sears did it improperly. My wall oven is now installed correctly on a wood cradle. Earl was a true professional.

We moved into an older home in Melrose Park and hired Lance for a variety of Carpentry and Handyman projects needed as we settled in. We called on him to put flooring in the basement, build walls, fix cabinets, install wall mounted televisions, and insulate a crawl space. And other stuff that I can't remeber right now. Hee was competent, courteous, honest and very fair. I will hire him again (soon I suspect as the work in this house seems endless ;-)

Dan assembled a very difficult Breakfast Nook, Table and Bench for me. He was very friendly and he worked very quickly, he did so, with horrible instructions sent with the product from the manufacturer. I appreciated that his price was very reasonable-and unlike other furniture assemblers on Thumbtack, he quoted a flat fee and not a per hour fee. I would definitely have him assemble more furniture, and/or mount our flat screen televisions as well as our artwork.

We hired Ray of RK Construction and Remodeling when we did a partial kitchen remodel. Ray removed old kitchen cabinets, perfectly rearranged part of the hardwood floor to fit the new design, and he installed new cabinetry which we had custom ordered. Ray added electrical service to the cabinetry for lighting and also in-cabinet outlets for cell phone chargers. He removed a large, heavy fluorescent light fixture and installed new pendant lights over the island. He also replaced the table light fixture. He then helped my husband turn the old cabinets into a basement work bench! We have hired Ray for many smaller jobs and he has always been very helpful and professional. He is a perfectionist and I highly recommend him.

Jerry built a custom 2 x4 foot kitchen work table for us, with a maple top and red birch-base. It has a modified linseed oil finish. The work table is absolutely beautiful, a meticulously crafted and well-constructed functional work of art. It exceeds our expectations, especially because Jerry took such care to find particular beautiful and striking wood specimens for the table. He takes great pride in his craftsmanship and it shows in the finished product. It was a pleasure to deal with Jerry. He provided a very prompt initial quote for the job and was always responsive in his communications. He also provided 3D imaging of the table, so we could get an idea of what it would look like. I believe his pricing is very reasonable for the quality of the work. If you are looking for someone to do a special wood working or finish carpentry project, you should certainly consider Jerry of J Scott Woodwork and Design

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to restore a pool table?

Keeping your pool table in prime condition both protects your investment and makes it more fun to play. If your billiards table has been damaged by age or player misuse, experienced pool table repair pros are ready to help. The average national cost to hire a pool table specialist is $330-$400, but pricing can vary depending on how much restoration work needs to be done and the type and cost of materials you need. Depending on the type of pool table you want, the cost to buy one new can range from $1,000 to $5,000 and up, so investing in upkeep every few years makes good financial sense. Common pool table repairs include refelting the table, replacing cushions and cushion rubber that is has deteriorated or been damaged, installing new pockets or replacing damaged pockets, and fixing chips or smoothing uneven slate. You can also have wood pool tables refinished to restore them to their former luster, which may start around $600 and go up, depending on size, wood type and necessary repairs. Pool table repair pros can level an uneven table, repair broken leg mounts and address other foundational issues. Pool table repair pros can also fix coin-operated parts for commercial tables.

How much does it cost to replace pool table felt?

Owning a pool table, whether for pleasure or business, means investing in upkeep. Keeping the felt in good condition is important to ensure not only appearance but a smooth game. The national average cost to hire a pool table repair professional ranges from $330 to $400. A quality pool table is a major investment, so you want to hire a pro who is experienced and comes with glowing references. Refelting a pool table is a specialized skill calling for technical tools, competence with slate smoothing and repair, and the ability to provide a precision application of the felt that won’t hinder play.

When well cared for, pool table felt can last up to a decade; pros recommend replacing your pool table felt every three years or so, more often if you play heavily. Refelting and pool table repairs can cost more for antique and custom pool tables. Commercial pool table owners are wise to have multiple pool tables repaired at one time, as they can often get discounts for volume work.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
