"To say that my closet was a disaster would be an understatement, after being pregnant, losing and gaining pregnancy weight, working from home as a consultant, and being a stay at home mom. I had completely lost my fashion identity. I has lost my way fashion wise. I was in a very dark place, until Kathrine came to help me. She took the time to go through my closet, pitch the clothes that weren't working, and then came up with a check list of items that I needed to buy. When we went shopping we found the perfect pair of jeans! That alone has changed my life. Before our closet session, she had asked me to identify my style. That really gave me clarity and now when I go shopping, I always keep that in the back of my mind. Does this piece fit into "my" style? Our session gave me the confidence that I had lost along the way. I love my clothes now and every piece represents me."

Ashley was great! She really understood my vision. I also appreciated how determined she was when we entered various stores (perfect stores for my style!). I had worked with some stylists before but she was by far my favorite. I am looking forward to working with her again and I also highly recommend her for anybody needing either some new clothes or for a particular outfit for a night. She helped my sister last year for some new summer outfits. They are now my sister's new favorite outfits. THANK YOU ASHLEY!

Cristina and her team are absolutely the best. She did my hair and makeup test six months prior to my wedding and I fell in love with her work. She is the sweetest, most talented person and my hair and makeup looked amazing. My mom and sister loved her too. I highly recommend her amazing work!!! P.S. I have also found my new hair stylist for haircuts as well.

I have had a great experience working with Three Hangers. My mother always told me that if someone is an expert enough for you to pay them, then you should let them be in control. I think when you hire a stylist, you should be willing to let them 'take the wheel'... I've avoided hiring a stylist for a long time because I I want someone who understands being a working mom, with a limited budget, and I've been nervous about engaging someone who would view me as a 'human hanger.' I have a strong sense of personal style and comfort, but I knew that I was not dressing to flatter my shape. I asked Three Hangers to identify the best way to dress for my shape and to create a short list of clothing I could mix and match for best effect (I'm a bit of a minimalist). I appreciated that Three Hangers took time to get to know my daily life, my comfort level, and my current wardrobe before making suggestions. She took time to get to know my shopping habits (thrift first, then online shopping), budget (quality at the least cost possible), and daily life (VERY busy working mom and online video personality). After an initial consult, I approved a 3 hour package of basic consulting. We did this via Skype as we're separated by a large geographic distance. She asked me to send several selfies in my daily life along with comments. I think this really helped her figure out what I was actively doing and my personality. She also did a closet assessment was firm in identifying areas of weakness in my current wardrobe, using my most used clothing. I appreciated that she was firm in identifying BOTH problems in the wardrobe and areas of strength in my figure that I should be emphasizing. Three Hangers had no problems telling me where I was going wrong AND she had no problems encouraging me to step out of my insecurities and emphasize what I have going on.... After sending the selfies and the Skype video closet assessment, she sent a spreadsheet (keep, adjust, buy, discard) utilizing my current wardrobe and suggestions for additions/subtractions and a Pinterest Board, which included a 'color story' for my fall purchases and visual aids. I am still in the process of purchasing the items similar to what she suggested, but from my current wardrobe I have tried a few types/shapes/combinations of clothing I never would have before, and a new color I was too insecure to try before, and have received high compliments from friends and family. I got my first 'WOW' ever - so that felt nice. :-) The total ended up being 4 hours, instead of 3. I feel like it was a good value proposition and sincerely should have taken 4 hours, given what she accomplished and suggested. I don't believe she actually would have charged me, but she had mentioned in passing she'd actually spent some extra time than budgeted, so I actually asked her to bill me for the extra hour. I also budgeted for a couple of extra hours recently, so I would have the freedom to show her what I put together and help confirm that I was hitting the marks she suggested or tweak it if I was missing the mark. If you're looking to book her.... Please note: I myself am somewhat of a minimalist with a great deal of flexibility and ability to take risks and a strong ability to execute orders (ie shop from a list). My experience will be yours, if you are like me. However... If you are looking for a LOT of evaluation (more than 20-30 hangers in your closet/pieces to evaluate) OR If you have a tendency to get uncomfortable with big changes/suggestions and need more in depth conversation OR if you want a deep and full assessment - including a once over of the finished project... You probably should budget about 7-8 hours for the consulting. AND If you are looking to have Three Hangers actually shop FOR you, you may have to double this. Be absolutely clear in what you want, and discuss it honestly with her before engaging so that you both have a wonderful experience, as I did. 10/10, will probably engage again for a Spring Update. Highly recommend.

I have worked with Ebone’ a few different times for fashion photo shoots. She is very organized and focused. When it comes to fashion and style, ebone’ is bold, unapologetic, and unique. She made sure that she choose outfits that were unique to me and my physique. She always made sure I was comfortable and her eye for detail is priceless. Not only does Ebone’ have an amazing work ethic, but her energy and personality brings nothing but positivity and fun. I always have an amazing time working with Ebone’ and any styling or fashion needs you may be looking for Ebone’ is the perfect person for the job.

Michelle is nothing short of a miracle worker. She helped me go through my outdated and voluminous closet and bring it into the 21st century with sophistication and style. She was so pleasant and professional to work with and tried to make the process as fun as possible. She helped me understand my personal style and how to achieve it using my current items and recommending what was missing. I was not the easiest client and had a hard time letting go. Michelle was very patient in walking me through the process of building a wardrobe that would last and save me time and money in the long run. Michelle is truly a life changer. I now look at myself and my wardrobe with more confidence and style, and it is all because of her fashion knowledge and guidance. I look forward to working with Michelle to keep me on the right track and for seasonal refreshers.

Kristie helped me purge my closet before a move. She then followed up with another visit to my new home and helped me put outfits together to better utilize all my pieces in my wardrobe. Eventhough I have half the amount of clothes I started off with, I have triple the outfits now that she taught me how to create day to night look by dressing up or dressing down my favorites. She made a very vulnerable purging the closet experience into an empowering wardrobe styling session. She didn't try to change my style. She suggested a couple key pieces I was missing in my closet that I was excited to find. She recommended brands she thought I should try that would fit into my closet seamlessly. I highly recommend her services!!

Karin Davis has been my hair stylist for almost 20 years. I have ALWAYS been happy with her services, and she is the only one I will let do my hair! Karin has also done a lot of personal shopping for me. I must use crutches when I'm outside the home. This makes shopping very difficult. Whether it is for groceries, clothes, or gifts, I have always liked her selections, and I appreciate her staying within the budget I have given her. Karin also helped me organize my apartment after I moved out of a much larger home. Everything is accessible, and easy for me to use. She is terrific at organizing!! Needless to say, I highly recommend Karin Davis for whatever need you may have. She is professional, prompt, courteous, efficient, and excellent at what she does! She truly is my Wonder Woman!!

I am a passionate, colorful and detail-oriented costume and fashion designer and stylist. My mind is always searching for something new to create and style. I can find inspiration in every little being. I am constantly curious. I always try to make a difference and to intrigue people into using their creativity. I was born in Serbia (Europe). Over the past decade, I have managed designer studios, created my own fashion line and worked as a freelance fashion designer for companies that produce clothes. I've worked as a stylist with photographers, videographers and fashion show producers and as a personal designer and stylist for my new and return costumers. I have owned a fashion design and production studio " Tigidi" (Belgrade/Serbia) and worked as a contracted designer and producer of promotional clothing for Leo Burnett Serbia/Europe whose customers included Philip Morris, Sony Ericsson and Chevrolet. In 2007, I moved to the U.S. and started to work as a freelancer. I work as costume and fashion designer and stylist . I created the after-school art, design and fashion program "D's Train Art and Design Studio" for children and families. Here, I teach art and design and fashion design based on creative ways of reusing and repurchasing the old and making something new and unique! Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do I find a personal stylist?

To find a fashion consultant, start by browsing portfolios online. Styling is a visual art, so finding a fashion consultant who fits the style you desire is key. Great personal stylists aren’t confined to one style, but if you’re seeking a hipper, fashion-forward vibe, you’d do well to find someone with a modern portfolio, while a fashion consultant with a consistently refined style could be a better fit if you’d prefer a more conservative look. Reading reviews is also helpful for learning more about the fashion consultant. Research their training, background and years of experience. After reviewing websites and Instagram accounts, meet with the stylist in person to learn how well they fit your personality; some fashion consultants offer a free phone consultation prior to hiring. Before hiring, make sure you clearly understand their terms of service and payment.

What do image consultants do?

Image consultants help people look and feel their best by coaching them on their clothing and beauty choices. An image consultant can be hired for a one-time occasion, such as an awards ceremony, big birthday party or photo shoot. The consultant will recommend clothing, hair and makeup to suit the occasion either using either what the client owns or taking a targeted shopping trip. For a complete fashion consultation, the image consultant will assess your wardrobe, your lifestyle, and what you hope to present to the world, and will then determine the best colors, styles and cuts for you. You can get help streamlining your professional appearance, adjusting your style after a change in body size, solidifying a new look, or finding clothing to fit one area of your life like work or weekends. Image consultants also provide closet edits, going through your clothing and paring out what isn’t right for the look you’re trying to achieve. Personal shopping is another service that image consultants provide. After an image assessment, they can either shop with you or shop on your behalf to find you key pieces you need.

What is a fashion consultant?

A fashion consultant is a paid professional who will advise you on what to wear and how to wear it to fit your desired lifestyle or career goals. A fashion consultant can provide many services including personal shopping, closet audits, beauty consultations, style consultations and ongoing seasonal services. A fashion consultant often has a design or fashion background (although this is not required) and an innate sense of style. It’s easy to get stuck in a rut with the colors, cuts and designs we think suit us. A fashion consultant comes in with fresh eyes and provides constructive feedback to guide your style choices.

During your initial meeting, your fashion consultant will take stock of your current clothing selection and learn what you hope to achieve. They’ll identify core wardrobe pieces you need, as well as advise you how to wear items together. Many consultants create style lookbooks for their clients explaining things like exactly which shoes to wear with what pants and how to accessorize each look. Fashion consultants are a great option for people who are updating their style due to age, career changes or body changes, or who are just ready for a new look and feel. Most fashion consultants charge by the hour, with some offering packages and others working from a retainer.

What is a personal shopper?

Personal shoppers take the pain out of having good fashion. Personal shoppers are paid professionals who work with women, men or children who need style assistance. If you are stuck in a fashion rut, are unsure how to dress in a way that flatters your body, need to revamp your image, or want a more professional career look, personal shoppers can help. Personal shoppers identify the look their client wants to achieve and purchase the necessary clothing and accessories to achieve it. The process often begins with an initial consultation with the client to understand their style goals. This consultation may include a closet “audit,” an assessment of the client’s current wardrobe to see what items can be eliminated and what must be purchased to achieve the desired style.

The client and the personal shopper can shop together, selecting items as a team. The personal shopper may also shop on behalf of the client, then bring all items to the client for a final decision. A third option is pre-shopping, where the personal shopper reaches the store(s) ahead of the client and sets aside clothing for the client to try on, expediting the whole process — a win for anyone who hates spending time in the mall. Personal shoppers can also be hired for one-time events such as weddings, vacations or birthdays. You can also enlist a personal shopper to do your gift shopping for you. Overall, a personal shopper is an investment in making good style choices.

What does an image consultant do?

Image consultants help people look and feel their best by coaching them on their clothing and beauty choices. Image consultants help clients in a number of ways. An image consultant can be hired for a one-time occasion such as an awards ceremony, big birthday party or photo shoot. The consultant will recommend clothing, hair and makeup to suit the occasion, using what the client already owns or making a targeted shopping trip.
