Not just an accomplished guitarist but an actual teacher. Very adaptive but actually has a sense of scope and sequence to his instruction which, in my experience, is tough to find in a guitar teacher outside of college level instruction. Can really teach authentic rock, blues, and jazz styles.

Started taking lessons from Shaun about 6 weeks ago. So far i've learned a lot about the basics and going at the right speed. He gives assignments to do every week to help improve skills which is awesome. So far my experience has been awesome for someone that is completely new to a classical guitar. His style of teaching is easy to understand. In the end its up to the student to put in the practice to really get better at it.

Jerry and the trio were a perfect fit for our event. They provided excellent music and adjusted their volume to the room perfectly. I would highly recommend the trio to anyone looking for solid jazz musicians! Our cocktail party was a huge success and I know Jerry and the gang played a huge role in this. Thanks again guys!

Alyssa was my pianist for my artist diploma recital back in March 2016. She was super flexible with my busy schedule, was always prepared for our rehearsals, and most importantly she plays incredibly well with so much love for the music. It's hard to find much better. :)

We highly recommend Vinnie Hines at Artist Collective (Chicago)! We have attended several performances by Vinnie Hines and liked him so much that he did a private show at one of our parties. He was fantastic with the attendees and the show was great! It's only perfect that he also does bookings for Artist Collective. We recently went to him with a special request for an artist with a specific skillset and Vinnie was right on it making things happen. Over the years we have used several outlets for talent and Vinnie Hines at Artist Collection (Chicago) is by far top notch and great to work with.

Fran can PLAY, he's got a degree in music, and he makes the lessons a fun exploration of whatever genre takes your fancy. I was an anxious adult novice and my experience with Fran was always great: encouraging, comfortable, and geared to the music and theory of interest to me. I couldn't speak more highly of Fran as a great guitar teacher for both for acoustic and electric for any skill level.

After seeing a performance by Alex I asked him to work with me in the future on a dance piece. His technique, clarity, and expressiveness were outstanding then and later when he performed in a new solo I created on a guest artist from a dance company in Israel. He was a pleasure to work with in the process and the final product. I would recommend him to anyone, anywhere, at any time and look forward to working with him again.

Allison Cannon is not only a decided musician, but she is also passionate about teaching others. I've known Allison for eight years now and have heard her skill level advance with each passing year. She is hands down one of the most talented musicians I know for her age, and quite frankly most anywhere. She has done a multitude of performances and comes highly recommended by a well renown director, Patrick Henning. If you have the opportunity to work with this shinning-young, talented musician take everything you can in! She will teach you the skill you wish to have from the skill that still surpasses most well known artists.

I’ve always been fascinated by the violin. The moment I could muster up enough courage to take classes, I was extremely dedicated, however, not knowing anything about instruments and being an absolute beginner in playing one, it was always a challenge to find a teacher who could match my excitement and interest. When I met Kal, I felt that he had a genuine desire, not just to teach me how to play the violin, but to help me understand music as a whole; to incorporate all musical notes into my life through our lessons. Taking up an instrument can be such an intimidating task, but it is not at all impossible! With Kal as my teacher, in just a few months, I found myself reading music, playing to rhythms, listening to notes and recognizing them (and playing solely by listening to notes!) - basically, I found myself learning music, wholly, something that no other teacher had ever managed to take me through. Thanks to Kal, I can pick up my violin, tune myself, and just…play. His love for music is palpable and quite easily transferable; his dedication is outstanding, and his help has been truly invaluable.

Ms. Røsnes introduced me to several particular stringplaying technical applications. A mountain of patience and a source of inspiration. I had almost given up hope of ever learning but I am still playing and through her instructions am able to make the music live. Much appreciated! Thank you.

I got to Taylor's class every Saturday, and have a great time! We learn to play each drum part of a rhythm. It is part history lesson and carrying on tradition of the song. In his class you can drop in and be able to play with no experience necessary! I think everyone should try one class, because you might be surprised how you like! you get to go away with worldly knowledge from a worldly man who has patience and fun all in one!

Provide instrumental music for a spiritual encounter. Mikey McKay handled this with confidence and left a lasting impression on all who attended.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

        What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

        • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
        • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
        • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.
