I highly recommend Chitown Trainer whose owner is Konrad Koczwara. My personal trainer is Alonza Thornton who has been highly skilled in quickly defining sets of exercises that work well for my goals. He has also done an excellent job in listening to my feedback in order to fine tune my exercises to maximize results. He pays a lot of attention to your exercise form to ensure that the appropriate set of muscles are used; this is a skill that all personal trainers do not possess. I highly recommend Alonza Thornton.

Wow, where do I start? We all have our own goals and needs when it comes to weight lost, toning, nutrition. Patrick exceeded my expectations. He is attentive, he cares about my goals, easy to communicate with and knowledgeable. Even though we think we know what we need to do to achieve our goals....we may not, and if you do it really helps to have someone help you stay focused and give you guidance. There are many great things I can say about this experience with Patrick but what was important to me was feeling comfortable having a trainer come to my house and being able to reach my goals. Patrick did just that...but you have to work at it. If you do your workouts and listen to his nutritional advice it will work. It is working for me! Another thing that is important to me is I did not want to go to a gym. Takes too much time out of my day and didn't want to pay for a gym membership on top of a personal trainer. I really love working out in my own home and needed a personal trainer more than a club membership. Again...its working!! Patrick is punctual with his arrival and with sending any information he says he's going to send such as my workouts. He's genuine, funny and just a great person. Thanks Patrick!!

Ken met with my husband and me to assess our fitness levels and match us with a personal trainer. He gave us a great first workout and answered all of our questions. He then matched us with Kasia, who is a FABULOUS trainer! We have had ten sessions with her so far and intend to keep going indefinitely. I am a beginner, while my husband is more advanced. Kasia is able to help me focus on form and technique while providing a killer workout for my husband in the same session. Love working with her, and cannot recommend Personal Best enough!

Laura is a natural relationship and life coach: intuitive, insightful, supportive, positive, human. She asks us pertinent questions that we don't see for ourselves. My partner and I have been doing coaching with Laura with a focus on how we communicate with one another, trust, staying in the present, keeping an eye on our pasts so we do not unconsciously let the past have too much influence on how we do our present. I recommend her interventions without hesitation.

After discussing my fitness goals, Elijah explained the general outlines of his plans and expectations. His style is simple and easy. I think most personal trainers are very knowledgable and very good at what they do. Elijah stood apart, however, from other trainers I have worked with in the past. He is particularly commendable because he is personable, genuine and fun. He also made it clear that I had to do my part as recommended by him, such as eating habits. He is also not afraid to talk about finances. I would recommend anybody to at least try a few sessions with him. You will know what I am talking about.

Chaun has been training me for over one month and I can say that I am loving the results. I have become stronger, toned and have lost a good percentage of body fat. Chaun is a great personal trainer. The workouts are great and is never a routine. Chaun is also great on giving me advise on what foods to eat to help me reach my goals faster.

I have been working with Victoria for going on 3 years now- we meet up once a year to revamp my resume- and I don't know what I would do without her. She gives what I have done in life focus and helps market me in a way that I never could have done myself to be desirable to potential employers. She also gives me the confidence to go for what I really want out of life.

I have been running for the last 2 years for stress relief and when I finished my Ph.D I decided to look for a personal trainer to teach me new workouts. I met with Tim, and told him that I can't afford a lot of sessions and he did not make it any less difficult. In 5 30 min sessions with Tim I learned a ton of new, fun, and very difficult work outs! He made sure to ask me each time where I was sore, and adjusted my work out accordingly. He made sure I learned proper form for each new technique so that I would not hurt myself. Best of all he answered all my questions no matter how small and always made me feel comfortable to learn something new, even when I looked funny doing it. I have also seen major results in just a few sessions because he works you to your limit! Best decision I could make before moving away. If you want to begin a healthy life style he is a great place to start!

I contacted Jill about hiring an in home personal trainer for my 75 year old mother after she had achilles surgery and was done with physical therapy but still unable to function comfortably in everyday life. My mom has been training with Nicki for a few months (she told me in the beginning she was just going to do "a few sessions") and has improved wonderfully. My mother likes to say she "gave up a cruise" to train with Nicki, but she insists it is totally worth it! My mother is not an easy one to please, and was a hard sell for training in the first place. Kudos to Nicki for winning her over and making a difference!

I am 61 yrs. old. I recently lost 15 lbs. and needed to firm up a bit. I wanted a trainer to come to me for the convenience and since my building has a gym. Mike has worked with me for about 4 weeks and I am seeing my body taking shape. Mike is very attentive and easy to work with. He returns messages promptly. He listens to what I would like to achieve. The work outs are well felt, but not so hard I feel like I'm doing boot camp. He provides nutritional support as well. He is always on time for my workouts. He is very patient. I highly recommend Mike as a personal trainer. Lori S.

Loren Michaels Harris spoke at our high school's Operation Snowball weekend, a lock-in focused on drug prevention, leadership, and team building attended by 80 students. He is such a kind person and passionate, engaging speaker. He spoke about overcoming obstacles, keeping a positive mindset, and how our every action sends a ripple effect into the world. Several of our participants were emotionally moved by his inspiring story and came up to talk with him afterward, where he took time to have personal conversations and give encouragement. His message was powerful, uplifting, and exactly what our audience needed to hear. Thank you, Loren, for an unforgettable experience!

I had the pleasure of not only training with Sam, but also working alongside him at the Sachs Recreation Center (SRC). For the better part of a year I would watch Sam train his clients. During this time, I was working out 5-7 days a week, sometimes twice a day. I was getting results but not really the ones I wanted. Sam then introduced me to the world of kettlebell training, and I haven’t looked back. My goals were to lose weight, get stronger, become more flexible, and of course learn the fundamentals of kettlebell training. In less than 6 months my body composition has totally changed. I went from a bulky 200 lbs. to a leaner 185 lbs. (and still going down). My pull-up max has more than doubled since training with Sam. Among other exercises, Sam corrected my form on the dead-lift and squat. The weight I’ve been able to use for those have since gone up significantly. I think the most exciting part of my progress is that I’ve actually been working out about half as much as I was before. Sam would always tell me “train smarter, not harder.” And that mentality has stuck with me. Although my flexibility is still not where I’d like it to be, I’ve made a tremendous amount of progress with Sam. He actually taught me how to stretch, warm up, and foam roll more efficiently than a decade worth of soccer coaches has been able to. The kettlebell training is by far my favorite thing Sam has taught me. Kettlebells allow me to blend my aerobic and anaerobic training more fluidly. In fact, I enjoyed the kettlebells so much that I’ll be investing in my own now that I’m away at college. I think most of my weight loss came from the kettlebell circuits and the diet advice Sam has given me. Sam is the only trainer I would recommend to anyone in the area. Not only is he a pleasure to be around but he has extensive knowledge in all things pertaining to your body. He will not just tell you what to do and how to do it, but why it’s important at an anatomical and physiological level. Sam helped me reach my health and fitness goals and set me on the right path to improve even more. I know he would love to help you reach your goals as well, you just got to let him!

From the moment I met Alex , I knew he was a person that could help me achieve new goals and also the one that would help change my life for the better. I started training with Alex last April. During the last 6 months I have been challenged and pushed by Alex, and he has taught me a great deal. He makes working out fun and inspires me to reach new goals. I have been very impressed by Alex's passion to help clients, his knowledge, and his ability to connect with his clients. Alex is very caring and attentive to what each client needs, what their limits are, and how far he can push them. He encourages and motivates me to do better, and yet he knows how much I am capable of. He deserves 5 out of 5 stars from me. I plan to continue to work with Alex.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a life coach?

A professional, accredited life coach works with people to help them make important changes in their life, either growing in their profession or changing gears in their personal lives. They help clients turn their dreams or wishes into realistic, attainable goals. They guide people through the process of making life changes by helping them evaluate the steps they must take to reach a particular goal, then help them decide how — and whether — to take those steps in the most efficient, effective and rewarding way possible. A life coach acts as a motivator, strategist and accountability partner. Unlike a therapist, a life coach doesn’t help solve problems from your past — they’re focused on helping you move forward with new ways of acting and thinking that will help you reach your goals. Some people specialize in particular types of life coaching, including life balancing coaches, small business coaches, executive coaches and personal finance coaches. Some meet clients in person, while others hold consultations over the phone.

Regardless of which type of life coach you’re interested in, make sure the person holds an International Coach Federation (ICF) credential. There are three tiers of credentials: Associate, Professional and Master, which require coaching experience ranging from 100 hours to 2,500 hours.

What is a health coach?

A health coach is a service provider you can hire to help you realize your wellness goals. You can hire a health and wellness coach to guide you through life changes, keep you focused on weight loss or fitness goals, help boost your mental health, and more. Many health coaches work with their clients for set periods of time as the client moves toward a measurable goal. Wellness coaches come from varying backgrounds, and may have different areas of focus depending on their education and training. Research potential coaches by reading their reviews, researching their academic and personal backgrounds, and learning about any certifications they have earned from coaching institutes. Often, health and wellness coaches sell coaching packages ranging from three to six months or longer, depending on the client’s needs. The average national cost for an individual health coach session ranges from $60 to $90, although prices may range as low as $30 or up to $130 or more, depending on your location and the coach.

How much does a life coach cost?

A life coach helps clients set and reach professional and personal goals, develop positive habits, and deal with stress. Some people meet with a life coach once or twice, while others form an ongoing professional relationship, meeting regularly in person or on the phone. The average national cost to meet with a life coach ranges from $80 to $130 an hour. Some coaches offer per-session pricing, especially for one-time meetings; expect to pay an average of $100-$125. People who want to work with a coach over a period of time to explore life transitions, career growth or lifestyle changes may be able to get discounted pricing in a package. For example, three 60-minute sessions cost an average of $300, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $350, and four 60- to 90-minute sessions plus unlimited contact between sessions cost an average of $400. Some specific types of coaching, such as relationship or marriage coaching, cost more than standard life coaching. For instance, three 60-minute relationship coaching sessions cost an average of $500, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $550, and six 60- to 90-minute sessions cost an average of $650 when purchased as a package. Training and experience can also affect the cost of hiring a life coach. An Associate Certified Coach, who holds a certification that requires only 60 hours of training and 100 hours of coaching experience, will charge less than a Master Certified Coach, who typically has at least 200 hours of training and 2,500 hours of coaching experience.

What is a holistic wellness coach?

When you want to reach new heights with your health and wellness, consider hiring a holistic wellness coach. Much like a health coach, a holistic wellness coach is focused on your well-being and meets with you in one-on-one sessions to help you identify and reach your targeted goals. A holistic wellness coach will typically have you take all components of your life into account when working to achieve your goals. If your goal is to lose weight, a holistic wellness coach will not only offer recommendations for your diet and exercise, but also discuss your emotional health, your work/life balance, your spiritual side, and each area of your life that affects your ability to follow a nutrition and fitness plan.

Although they are highly motivational and often can help clients achieve great results, holistic wellness coaches are not professional health care providers or registered dietitians. Different institutes and training centers provide certifications for holistic wellness coaching, so be sure to research your coach and read their reviews to understand more about their techniques and training.

Why get a life coach?

People of all ages and in all careers have called in a life coach. Life coaches are accredited professionals who can help you figure out the tangible changes you can make in your life to reach your goals; they can even help you turn your dreams into goals, if you’re not sure where to go next. A life coach can also help people find their purpose in life. Life coaching clients often have an idea of what they want to do, such as help people or work with animals, but don’t know how to turn that passion into a career. A life coach can help clients work through the options to find a clear path with concrete steps that lead to an attainable goal. A life coach can also help clients make a major career change, such as starting a new business. Life coaches can help clients develop better habits that will make them more successful, acting as an accountability partner. Life coaches also often guide their clients through major transitions in life, such as a career change or other stressful situations that are made easier with guidance from a neutral third party.
