FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge $60.00 an hour. I don't offer free trial lessons, though I am happy to answer any questions before starting.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I begin by identifying the student's skill level, then build from there. I might recommend finger exercises or other technical studies. I also use the skill level as a guide to choosing jazz songs or classical pieces for the student. At a first lesson, I also try to get a sense of the student's musical goals.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My training is mainly as a performer. In the late 1970s I spent a year studying jazz piano at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, and shortly after that started playing jazz gigs around Lansing, Michigan and later in Chicago. I have played in most of the major jazz clubs in Chicago, including Andy's, The Green Mill, The Jazz Showcase, and others. I also play and teach classical piano, and have studied privately with Michael Ruiz of the Chicago Conservatory of Music.
