Josh actually came same day. Stayed true to his estimate. I felt great having him working in the house knowing he is licensed and insured. He did a great job so I am having him back for another project. Thanks for making my first time using thumbtack a great experience. Will use Josh and this site again.

Tilly was great, she came early and got right to work unpacking for me. She gave me a boost in a few rooms and made me feel much more at home in my new house.

Christy is the best. When we were out of town for a couple of days, she came to the house 4 times a day. Walked and fed our dog and even gave her a massage! Our dog has not always been people friendly, but Christy understands dogs. No one else has ever been as good with her as Christy has.

Sarah has been walking my dog, Angus, over the past 2 years. My dog has always been very shy and nervous and Sarah has always been patient with him and he warmed up to her very quickly! When we run into her on our walks, he always runs right up and wants to say hi to her! She is extremely responsive and reliable when I need her to dog sit or take Angus on additional walks. Her prices are extremely reasonable, and she does such a great job. She always sends photos from the daily walk and I can tell she genuinely cares about the dogs. I would recommend her services to anyone in need of a walker!

Tami is AMAZING! After moving to valparaiso, we were worried about finding a great sitter who would nurture and care for our cats as much as we do. Tami went above and beyond any expectation that we had. While on vacation, she sent me videos and pictures of my furry children and it provided me with a great sense of relief so I could enjoy my trip. If your looking for a trustworthy, reliable, and great with animals sitter look no further as Head to Tail is truly exceptional.

Kevin was recommended to me by my vet, Village West (where he is also a vet tech). Kevin has sat for my basset hound, Cheddar, several times. As a rescue, Cheddar has high separation anxiety (and associated GI related issues as a result). Kevin has consistently taken excellent care of her and kept me closely informed of how she was doing while I was away. My place is always left spotless. Highly recommend Kevin for your pet sitting needs!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is house sitting?

A house sitter watches your house while you are away for work or vacation, or if you have to be away for an extended period. House sitters can also provide pet-sitting services, staying in your home and caring for your pet while you are away. The house sitter can say overnight in your home while you’re gone, or stop by once a day to ensure everything is in order if your pet doesn’t need overnight supervision. Reptiles and most cats are just fine with daily visits and feeding.

House sitting provides major advantages to the homeowner. A regular presence in your house deters break-ins and theft. Home safety issues such as water leaks get noticed and dealt with right away, so you don’t come home to big problems. A house sitter can bring in your mail daily, care for your houseplants, and provide home safety and peace of mind.

How do I find a reliable house sitter?

House sitting can help keep your home safe and well cared for so you can be worry-free while you’re away for work or play. There are several steps you can take to make sure you hire a trustworthy house sitter and do your part to be a responsible host. One of the best ways to ensure a safe home is to hire a professional house sitter. Here are some key points to look for when hiring a house sitter:

  • Reviews and referrals: When searching for a house sitter, always read reviews. Previous experiences will indicate how the house sitter will care for your home while you’re away.
  • Contract: Sign a clearly written contract outlining services to be provided (e.g., mail in each day by 5 p.m.), the daily rate you are paying, and how long the services will be provided. You can also include any agreed-upon house rules in the written contract.
  • Your part: Leave important phone numbers (vet, emergency contact, etc.) and information on where to find emergency items like the circuit breaker and the fire extinguisher, and have a credit card on file with the veterinarian in case of emergencies if the house sitter is watching your pets.
