I met Mike at GIT/MI (LA music school) and despite that we were peers I learned a lot from him about guitar playing that wasn't taught at the school. Aside from guitar technique and music theory, Mike has a unique and refined approach to composition being inspired by the Beatles and The beach boys as well as the usual shred gods like Randy Rhoads and Van Halen. He is thus able to teach advanced techniques but also demonstrate real world applicability in a song context. In todays world where most guitar teachers focus on technique at the cost of music, In the words of Van Halen, Mike is "The best of both worlds". If you are in any doubt about Mike's shredding capabilities, do check out his cover of Vinnie Vincents "Boys are gonna rock" on the Kiss My Ankh album. I cannot recommend Mike as a guitar teacher highly enough as found in Mike a fellow musician who is obsessively passionate about guitar music.

Way back before I knew what a seventh chord was, this guy was the sage seek for musical knowledge. Drew's understanding of theory and knowledge of instrumental technique helped me pave a smooth foundation with music in my youth prior to college. His enthusiasm and patience make him one of the best teachers I've seen. After years of studying, I have had the privilege of performing in many jazz groups with very talented players, and I would be lying if I didn't say Drew Gumbiner didn't assist and inspire me to peruse my goals early on. He is a talented multi-instrumentalist and a wonderful teacher, I would recommend him to anyone with a desire to study music.

I find that many guitar instructors teach because they think they are supposed to. I, on the other hand, really enjoy the art of teaching. The look that a student has when they reach a moment of clarity in understanding the instrument is what I live for professionally. I want my students to understand the instrument as well as I do as opposed to just making a few extra dollars.

I have a facility, or I guess more of a room I teach out of. I know it's hard to believe people nowadays, but I have taught around 12 people, some are just not apt to it. If this is the case, I offer six months worth of refunds. I have had eight people who successfully learn, which I am still a little surprised because it's not easy. The only thing I tell my clients is that their time with me is for a lesson not a practice. If I feel that they are not practicing at home, I will tell the parent/guardian immediately and reduce the charge so both parties can agree on what it should be.
I will get you started with all you basic chords and teach you progressions that will get you on your way to playing songs and maybe even writing songs. I have been in five different bands for over the last 20 years and have played music nationwide. I've written over 10 songs, and I'm currently in a bluegrass band. I also perform solo acoustic.
