Kate S. says, "Working with Valerie has been incredible. While I’m not new to the gym, I have had the hardest time getting back into a maintainable program after having two kids. I found myself starting / stopping and not being able to get any traction. I’ve been working with Val 4.5 months now, and I am so happy with the consistency we have built in the small habits. More importantly, it’s a plan that’s sustainable to me. I’ve worked with coaches in the past that have been super intense on adherence, and Val understands that the best plan is a sustainable one that can be achieved while living life. I’m really grateful for her guidance, encouragement, training and coaching! Highly recommend!"See more

Jordan L. says, "Unbelievable time with Mario as a coach so far. His communication style is easy, attentive, and straightforward. His ability to help you understand what’s needed to accomplish the task at hand is crazy and he can’t help but pepper in his passion for all things training. His cues are thoughtful and openness to questions about programming as well as exercise selection make going to the gym enjoyable (even when it gets hard). He’s striving to build that mental toughness in you as much as the physical strength. There’s always an uncanny method to his madness that complements his eye for detail. Mario is knowledgeable on general fitness all the way up to different training philosophies, methodologies, and he’s willing to explain schools of thought in ways that are understood by anyone new or seasoned in working out. He keeps up to date with advancements in the powerlifting community to ensure he gets the most out of his athletes. He can bring anyone to the podium that’s willing, I’m excited to see what he cooks up next and you should be too!"See more

Crystal J. says, "I can’t say enough great things about AC as a trainer. From day one, he took the time to understand my goals, what I was struggling with, and what I realistically needed in order to stay consistent. Every session felt purposeful as he coached my form, made smart adjustments based on my level, and pushed me in a way that was challenging but still doable. I never felt judged or rushed. I felt supported, accountable, and genuinely coached. One of the biggest turning points for me was when AC recommended a water fast. He didn’t present it as a quick fix but he explained the why behind it, what to expect, and how to approach it in a responsible way. That recommendation ended up being a real game-changer for me, especially with my energy and cravings. After doing it, I noticed I had steadier energy instead of constant ups and downs, and my cravings didn’t feel like they were controlling my day anymore. I felt more clear-headed, more disciplined, and more in control of my habits overall. If you’re looking for a trainer who’s knowledgeable, honest, and truly invested in your progress, I highly recommend AC. I’m really grateful for the impact he’s had on my fitness and mindset."See more

Jeff R. says, "I didn't get overweight and out of shape overnight and I wasn't going to be thin after a few workouts. I needed help to turn things around. I needed to find a trainer who would be there with me and help me reach my goals. If you are considering what type of trainer will meet their needs let me share why I recommend Steve over other options. I needed a trainer who would be there while I workout. Not someone that I text when I workout and send pictures. Steve is right there, just like a trainer should be. Even though we are in 2 different states, he is right there through the entire workout, which has many positives. I can work out at home. - I don't have to go to the gym. This makes me more comfortable not being around a bunch of people and saves me time. It is amazing how challenging a workout can be without using any weights. He watches what I can and can't do and makes adjustments so I don't hurt myself (especially my back) but also is pushing me so I am challenged. He provides constant feedback and encouragement throughout the workout. He keeps track of reps and progress while I focus on form and breathing. In our last workout I did 20 reps of something and he mentioned, in our first workout I couldn't even do 1. Hiring a trainer means you are "investing in yourself" but you don't need to spend more to get more. I couldn't be happier about my decision for a trainer."See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a boot camp?

The cost of fitness boot camps depends on how often you go, the package you are purchasing (or if you are paying a drop-in fee), the location of the bootcamp, the equipment the instructors provide, and the background and reputation of the instructor. Smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living typically have lower rates for boot camp services than big cities and regions with a higher cost of living. If you’re paying per class on a drop-in basis, expect to pay anywhere from $12 to $25 or more, depending on the region and the instructor. When you purchase a package of classes, typically the more you buy at one time, the cheaper each class is. The same boot camp class might be $20 for a drop-in student, $15 for a student who pays for 10 classes per month, and $10 for a student who pays for 30 classes a month. Studio space can also affect costs, so if your boot camp takes place in a high-end gym with top-of-the-line equipment, the prices will likely be higher than a class that meets in an outdoor space with limited or no equipment. Shop around to find the right type of boot camp class and the right instructor for you.

What is a boot camp class?

Fitness boot camps are a heart-pounding way to boost your fitness level. Boot camps are led by a fitness instructor and are based on the concept of military boot camps — intensive workout programs to get new recruits into shape, quickly. Fitness boot camps encourage camaraderie, and the group momentum helps participants get through fast-paced intervals of cardio, isometric training, strength training and endurance drills. Classes may range anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, and usually meet multiple days per week. Boot camps often run a specific duration of time, say four to six weeks, which creates a team-like environment for class members. Other boot camps run year-round and students purchase package pricing for classes, similar to subscriptions that allow them a set amount of classes per week or per month.

Boot camps can be held indoors at a gym, outdoors in a park or on a beach, in a backyard — anywhere there’s room for running, jumping and sweating. Some instructors also provide DVD and online boot camps. You can also find boot camps tailored to your heart’s desire, such as bikini boot camp, or boot camps for new mothers. Boot camps offer an intense workout and are usually led by energetic instructors pushing you to do your best, but unlike military boot camp drill sergeants, fitness boot camp instructors typically don’t use intimidation or punishment to spur you on. Check with your doctor before starting a boot camp if you have health concerns, and always let your instructor know ahead of time if you have injuries.
