Jason was great! He came out to look at the job and then went to get the supplies. We wanted to redo our weather stripping on all of our windows & door. When he came back out, he informed me that he couldn't find the window stripping unless we tried to guess and special ordered it but that could be a costly guessing game. He did do my back door and then also patched a hold in my wall from a light install which he wasn't planning on doing. He did a great job with the repair, you couldn't even tell that a hole use to be there :) Thanks Jason!!

Bradley is a total professional! He is not only very talented, but is very passionate about his career! He went above and beyond his call of duty! He adjusted my shower head and tightened my shower door, because what he saw, bothered him...guess what? That was not what he was called to our place to repair. About the repairs (both toilets and two sinks), he explained all options to me (is always looking for the most cost-effective option). He and his assistant worked tirelessly for several hours to make the repairs. Great guy! I will recommend him to all of my friends.

DH Construction came in and took time to look at what was wrong and told me options and how much. Quoted me a price and had the work done and everything cleaned up in lease then 3 hours. Replaced and fixed faucet on my tub that was leaking to lower level shower and also fixed my toilet that was also leaking. Will have them come fix plumbing again when needed. Thank you Laura

Due to minerals in our water, our shower was falling apart. Both handles for the faucet broke off, leaking water got behind the tiles and the wall was literally breaking up. There were about 6 missing tiles with no wall behind them. Since we needed to gut the shower area, we decided to remove the bathtub and install just a shower. Ron came over and made some recommendations and quoted a fair price. He got the job going and kept us informed of the progress each day and prepared us for possible problems. Ron took my wish and turned it into a beautiful reality. We have a new shower, tile floor and vanity - nearly a whole new bathroom! This is the first project of this size I've ever done in the house and I'm so glad that I found Ron to do it. His work is neat and clean and beautifully done. He doesn't waste time and has respect for your home. He's honest and will give you his recommendations but respects your decisions. I have more projects to do in the house and you can be sure I'm calling Ron! Thank you Ron for my pretty new bathroom.

Perfect! Quickly helped with all our locks! 30 minutes later and all three of our exterior doors were the same. They let me know that some of the locks don’t work with others not of the same brand beforehand so I could switch out one of the locks. A little bit more expensive than the handy man who quoted me, but I’d rather have something like this done by a professional! Well worth the cost.

Hands down best experience I’ve had on Thumbtack. If you’re looking for guys to do an unreal job and do it right the first time. These are your guys. Just moved back to Chicago bought a new place. And needed a new kitchen sink and disposal put in. I went out bought both and had them ready. Posted my add on here and they responded within the hour with a personal response and could do it the next morning on my schedule. They came out.... The sink was the wrong size for the lower cabinet but correct size for opening. They left and said to go out take my time. Return it. And to pick out one that will work for me that I’ll like. Gave me the measurements and suggested a few places. Great guys. Went out bought one brought it back. Texted the guys. They were at another job and once they finished, came back and stayed till 8pm to finish my job and make sure I had a working kitchen. And then on top of it all. Didn’t charge me a dime more than what they quoted me even though they had to come back a second time. I’m using these guys for new plumbing in my bathroom and to install the walk in shower along with new laminate floors for my whole place as well in a couple weeks. Gave me a quote that was perfect for my budget and I don’t want to look anywhere else. I trust these guys, (which doesn’t come easy for me) I’m prior service military, and couldn’t have felt more comfortable from meeting them with a smile and handshake. Even my dog laid on Salvos chest while he was installing the sink. And Salvo went one handed to do the work and pet my lab the whole time. Couldn’t be happier. Thanks gentleman. Can’t wait to see you guys soon.

Albert completed one bathroom that included ripping out and replacing a stall shower with tile, vinyl plank flooring and installing new trim. We've already rehired him to do our other bathroom as well. He's responsive, on time, patient while we changed our minds and his prices are very fair. We will definitely being hiring him again, probably for our kitchen, and recommending him to friends and family.

Seriously? Kenneth Lomalie I received a confirmation that you would meet me at my home at 9 AM October 26, 2017 regarding estimate for interior door installationand. It is now 9:30 AM and you have not arrived nor have you called to cancel or say you are running late for the appointment. Your behavior is RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL! You have clearly demonstrated that you're not a reliable contractor. Accordingly, there is no need for me to consider you for my Home improvement needs. David Phillips (773) 885-8215

The team at B&B did an incredible job repairing a main water valve at our building. From first contact to coming out to inspect the issue and returning the next morning to resolve, Bill was incredibly polite, professional and completed the fix very quickly. He even fixed a plugged shower head in one of our units at no additional charge. Because of his fast work he prevented a major water event that would have cost thousands to remedy. I would highly recommend Bill and B&B and will use them for my future plumbing needs.

After having Brad gives me quotes for replacing my rotting front porch, I made the decision to go with composite decking and I cannot say how happy I am with that decision. The porch looks wonderful and Brad was extremely responsive to my questions, came when he said he was coming and did a wonderful job. Alot of attention to detail and I now have a porch that I feel was custom built. He also replaced cellar doors I badly needed replaced and did a wonderful job of shoring up the sides as well. I have had a lot of compliments on the work and would certainly recommend Brad to anyone looking for a porch or deck build. Wonderful job!!

Ahmad was very professional with the installation and on time. The only reason why I can't give him 5 stars is because he said that he would come and take a look at the garage door one day in advance so he know what exactly to get but he didn't and ended up getting a different color door. Now I have to paint the door to match the other doors in the neighborhood.

How do I plan a bathroom remodeling project?

If you’re stumped on how to plan a bathroom remodeling project, it pays to hire a designer. This is especially important if you’re changing your bathroom layout in any way. Designers create contractor-friendly drawings indicating exactly where each tile and fixture will be installed, down to the light switches. This investment might cost you $300-$500 but save you significant frustration and miscommunication, while ensuring you get precisely what you want.

If you’re going to do your own design, planning a bathroom remodeling project means being organized and planning ahead. Create a general outline of what you want and the budget you have. Identify the specific fixtures, tiles, paint and vanity you prefer. Get all this organized before requesting quotes from two to three reputable general contractors. Once you find the right pro, get a written contract outlining scope of work, materials that will be used, timeframe and payment schedule. Communicate clearly about when to order your materials so they are ready and waiting by the time the contractor gets the permits. Your job from here is to communicate clearly, pay the contractor as the work progresses, and enjoy your remodel when it’s done.

Where should I start when remodeling a bathroom?

Bathroom remodeling doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Before starting a bathroom remodel it’s crucial to know what you want and have a clear understanding of your maximum budget. If you’d love all marble fixtures but have $3,000 total, you will have to compromise. Being realistic about materials and money before you even contact a contractor will have you on the road to success. Here are some simple steps to follow in the planning stages of bathroom remodeling:

  • List your remodeling priorities in order of importance (e.g., 1. New shower head, 2. Replace flooring, 3. Install recessed lighting, etc.).
  • Calculate what you can realistically afford to spend on your bathroom remodel. Identify an “all in” price — meaning the absolute maximum you’re willing to pay, as well as what you’d prefer to spend.
  • Gather ideas from Pinterest about colors and finishes.
  • Research the costs of the materials and finishes you want and begin making choices about what is and isn’t possible to fit into your budget (once labor is included). If you’d like to stay under $10,000 total, but really love a $2,000 tub, plan to downgrade in other areas.
  • Request quotes from at least three reputable general contractors, share your vision and ideal materials, and work together from there.

How long should a bathroom remodel take?

With proper planning and a good general contractor, your bathroom remodeling project doesn’t have to take forever. The construction phase of the project will always vary based on your scope of work, the square footage and the condition of your bathroom under the surface layer. Inevitably an 80-square-foot master bathroom with major changes will take longer than a 25-square-foot guest bath undergoing a minor renovation. For a smaller bathroom, a facelift — the industry term for sprucing up the surface layer (such as paint, vanity, tiles or light fixtures) but keeping the existing footprint of the space — may take five to eight working days, as long as there are no surprises like mold waiting when the old vanity comes out. A more complex bathroom remodel that revamps the shower area (customizing the plumbing, installing tile and changing the shower door), updates the flooring and cabinetry, and adds new paint and new lighting could take anywhere from one week to three weeks. A full bathroom remodel that guts the room, changing the footprint and moving the electrical wiring and plumbing lines, could take four to eight weeks or more. To keep your bathroom remodel on schedule, have your materials ordered and waiting, and don’t make any change orders once construction begins. Planning is key to keeping a bathroom remodel on schedule.

How much does it cost to remodel a bathroom?

Nationally, the average cost of bathroom remodeling is $14,000. Bathroom remodels can vary widely, from standard makeovers to luxurious master bathroom revamps. The factors that affect your bathroom remodeling cost are the finishes you choose (marble tiles can cost 20 times as much as standard subway tiles), the square footage of the project, regional labor rates in your area and the scope of work. Changing the layout or size of the bathroom will also raise costs. Moving electrical wiring and plumbing lines will also dramatically increase costs, as you’ll need to hire plumbers and electricians to handle the work. What’s happening behind your walls and under your floor will also affect bathroom remodeling cost: Rot, damage or mold can lead to additional work and charges. Overall, bathroom remodeling may offer great return on investment and also improve your daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom remodeling costs:

  • 6-foot by 6-foot bathroom remodel: $3,500, including labor and materials.
  • Standard renovation: $6,500-$10,000. Price includes labor and materials the customer has purchased. Labor may include taking out the shower and shower pan, installing new shower pan and shower, and installing new door, new vanity, new mirror, new bathroom fan, and all new fixtures.
    • Price variation depends on the quality of the finishes.
  • 10-foot by 6-foot bathroom remodel: $7,200, including labor and materials.
  • Mid-range renovation: $12,000-$15,000. Price includes labor and materials the customer has purchased.
  • Upscale renovation: $35,000 and up. Price includes labor and materials. Items might include digital displays for fixtures, multiple shower heads and custom showers.

How do I remodel my bathroom?

Bathroom remodeling is made up of three general phases. The first phase is the planning and permitting phase, in which you determine exactly what you want, what materials and finishes will be used, and what the end product will look like. If you’re competent with design you can handle the planning yourself, or you may hire an interior designer to guide you. During this phase you’ll also hire a general contractor who can help execute your remodel vision, coordinating and overseeing all the subcontractors required to do the bathroom remodeling (plumbers, flooring pros, etc.). When your plan is finalized, your contractor should obtain permits for the work you want done. During this time you’ll work together to order all the materials so they’ll be ready and waiting when it’s time to start construction.

The second phase is construction. Bathroom remodeling typically starts with demolition, removing the old floors, shower and vanity to make way for the new. Delays in delivery of materials, or changing your mind and ordering different materials halfway into the project, will mean that construction has to pause until the new materials arrive. Each subcontractor is dependent on the next to do their work, and the general contractor should keep things moving along at the proper timeline, ensuring that the right materials are available and dealing promptly with any unexpected repairs, such as damage discovered behind the walls or under the floor. The general contractor will also coordinate inspections from the necessary officials if you’ve moved load-bearing walls or done electrical or plumbing work. After construction is complete, the final phase of bathroom remodeling is addressing your punch list. These are all the items that need to be corrected before final payment is handed over to the contractor.
